In today’s video I show you all the things that have gone wrong with my vw caddy in just a couple weeks. Unfortunately most of the problems I am experiencing are common faults.

Another problem was the fuel line popped off and squirted diesel all over exhaust manifold 🧐

I've had the fuel bleed off lines pop off twice both after I got my injectors changed as they failed, my advice is getting brand new bleed off lines if you ever replace the injectors. Oh and if anyone else has this happen try and block the diesel from going onto the cambelt with some rag as a quick fix as you can imagine if the cam belt slips it will kill the engine.

I also managed to get both my injectors for about £120 each and was fitted by my dad at his MOT garage (many garages now have diagnostic tools that can do this cheeper than vw) hope this helps, and good luck.

The low pressure injector fuel return hose is attached to the injector using a 'p clip'. It is imperative that the clip is fitted correctly. VW recommend new rubber 'o' ring on refit. Furthermore the injector bolt must be correctly torqued (8nm + 270 degrees) otherwise the injector can vibrate and the fuel hose then disconnects from the injector spilling diesel fuel over the engine.

Congrats with your son! I’ve worked on heavy duty applications both onroad and offroad, if they used a cheap pressure plate and/or clutch I’m not surprised it’s slipping. If it’s a VAG product then I’d honestly try and get a refund or a replacement. Scania and Deutz were always very good to deal with in that regard.

Another very happy Caddy driver here, got it with 54k on, now on 168k after 4 years use. Only time I've had to have any work done was when the fuel emissions scandal happened and the software had to be updated. 1 speaker packed in about 6 months ago, the other went last week so that's to sort out. All in all its the best van I've had in 20 years of buying and using vans for work. Seems like issues are through lack of regular early life maintenance as well as a heavy early work life.

The light at the front looks like it’s got the wrong bulb in? It looks orange -ish or is it white? The other side should be on as they are daytime running lights. Have you checked the other side hasn’t blown. Mine are always on even when I turn the engine off. If I leave the key in the ignition after turning engine off they stop on and have flattened my battery several times. Also do you breakdown cover ? I have had 2 injectors go and got the AA to fit mine so I only paid for the part and not the coding.

Firstly, new dad, congrats. Now I could suggest you bought a Friday, last push up build. Honestly, I'm doubtful such a thing could happen in a V-dub plant. I recently bought a 2010 Caddy Maxi with one one slider, its one of the last 1.9 tdi's, Chose it because we also own a 2003 Passat estate that I bought in 2009 gave 100% service for 10+ years from day one, was much abused and under serviced. I changed oil and filters, brake pads and disks, renovated the callipers twice (new would have been sensible in 2015) previously owned and purchased used by a V-dub dealership mechanic with 120k miles, car was like new. Replaced cambelt etc once. Never gave less than 50 mpg average over the 180k miles. Then it became uneconomic to repair and sits motionless. I start it from time to time, sniff of the key is all it needs. Sickening but I can't bear to part with it. The Maxi motor is not the same beast and much thirstier. Maybe your problem is the same as ours, less power for more fuel. How the hell can that be better? Good luck with fixing yours up.

I feel your pain in this video. I was naïve to assume VW = reliable. I got "lucky" with the doomed injectors. Had 2/4 fail within the 6 mo warranty I had when I got the van (one did it abroad - ALWAYS get foreign roadside cover - best £49 I've spent - service was a shocker from all involved, including VW, though). Somehow I managed to persuade VW to upgrade the whole rack with the 2nd one (lady at VW said she'd never known VW to do that). Touch wood that's the end of it! Hope you're drama's end there. So much love for these vans but I'm constantly scared by any signs mine might be sick now haha

Nice video! Tell people how much these Caddys and VW sucks. My first injector broke two years and ONE WEEK after the upgrade/modifications. And they wouldn´t pay for it. I had no idea back then that the broken injector could have anything to do with the modifications they did after the Dieselgate scandal. If I did, I wouldn´t have put up with having to pay the ridiculous expensive injector myself. Now, 1 year after the first injector broke, the second injector breaks. The last two will probably break this summer while we´re on the road in the middle of nowhere. The nightmare has begun. :-( -Greetings from Norway

You aren't the only dud Caddy owner ! My 2011 1.6 , bought as a wheelchair conversion , had 21k on it . By then , 2 injectors had gone and been replaced. By 22k both the other 2 went , about a grand an' half's worth to get done. Then 'The big One' appeared. It won't start , first start of the day. What happens , is that a random selection of warning lights are on- different combo every time, dash-light bingo , anyone? - so crank it . Keep cranking. Crank until the alarm tone sounds and full-house of warnings are lit. Walk off in disgust . Come back , stelthily, after a few minutes, key in , turn on, crank and away it goes like nowt wrong. All subsequent starts are fine. No good when depending on it to get my missus to hosital appts or dialysis .VW have had it twice now , last time was this time last year , had it for 3 months or so. Luckily it wasn't needed for the dilysis runs then . They found nothing . They are apparently aware of the injector issue ,and offered no assistance on that one. Also , the EGR valve croaked shortly fter the injectors. I like the van , when it's reliable, but that is yet to happen. Yet my old Octavia wth 1.9 PD , had from new, did 250k still on original battery , exhaust , clutch when it had to change it when missus became diabled , never did less thsn 45 mpg even when loaded up and towing a good sized boat , and often did into the low 80's mpg cruising on M-ways. Never missed a bet n all weathers, even prolonged overnight standing at work in temps tht hit -17 C couldn't put it off. Progress ? Not so much, methinks.

No electric windows nor mirrors, whistling mirror, no A/C, static cluster, in 2013 really? I know its work-van but rly? But they didn't ask me for help, just with diag-tool and basic-buy-test-check. But from other side I'm worst helper coz new are most suck and are sensitive, and drivers dunno how to care. Research about engine code is 1st step before i consider buy. I had a Connect Sportvan that needed a clutch @45k. It had a VERY easy life. When the clutch was out it was about 50% through it's life, but the plate is only about 5" diameter...Just not up to the job. It also had the infamous Siemens injectors which left me stranded on the M1. All four had to be replace for £1500 and then another one had to replaced @60k. The later engine had Bosch were better. Remember too, that injectors are very difficult to remove, with the head often being damaged, then they require coding... I spent a fortune on mods on that van and it looked amazing, then I had to spend all that extra cash. I sold it after a couple of years and apart from a split turbo hose it never went wrong again but i never, ever trusted it.

Wish I had seen this video before I bought my 2nd hand caddy. I had a 07 caddy with a bomb proof engine. Nothing went wrong with. Bought a 2017 caddy and I can honestly say apart from martrying my 2nd wife, probably the worst decision I have ever made. It's been in and out with the mechanic more times than my ex wife. The caddy is genuinely a Pig of a van

The VW Caddy 1.6 Tdi is a moneypit. 2011 is the year when the model changed. Easily recognisable by the bonnet curve over the front grille badge. The emissions fix just makes the EGR work even harder and the valves on the unit wear out. So if you have not had the emissions fix then all the better. VW owners now experiencing EGR failures within 1 year of the emissions fix. My understanding is that VW offering 1 year warranty on EGR after work completed on emissions fix due to increased EGR failure rate. The EGR is basically overworked to get the emissions down! Essential piece of kit is a small puller for removing wiper arms. Often the injectors are seized in the head. The engine slopes backwards and the only way to get enough clearance to pull the injectors with the VW slide puller tool is to remove all bulkhead trim. This requires wiper arms removal to facilitate removal of plastic trim below the windscreen. You can pick up the VDO injectors for £240 now (new). Suffix S is the later injector and seem more reliable than the earlier suffix B. Always keep fuel above half in the tank otherwise the Ecu prevents regeneration of DPF. Otherwise the exhaust side of the system will simply coke up. The VW Caddy 1.6 Tdi is the most unreliable vehicle known to man! The limp mode King! Atb Chris

@@barbsbeauty Personally I would avoid the 1.6 Tdi engine. The injectors, EGR, DPF and turbo are all prone to failure and expensive to replace in parts cost alone. Consider a 2 litre Caddy which has a more reliable engine or opt for a earlier non turbo Caddy 1.9/ 2.0 . Pre 2011 Caddy is so much more reliable without Turbo, EGR and DPF regeneration. The emissions were less stringent pre 2011 and the engines much more reliable.

I have a 2008 1.9 TDI Caddy. Apart from the mass flywheel being replaced at 60k miles and now at 142k miles intermittent turbo boost pressure lose it's been reliable. 😆

The 2008 model has a different engine. Problems started in 2011 with the introduction of the upgraded Caddy fitted with the CAYD 1.6 engine. Diesel emissions more stringent from 2011 onwards.

Hi they are ripoffs if you know where to shop or get the parts from Germany much cheaper. I got charged £750 to change exhaust recycling pipe. Std Servicing costs was £350 The Germans don't pay what we pay over here in England. Try AutoDoc in Germany for parts. I know you needed an injector £500 WHAT THE F##'K ! It's time we put a stop to being ripped off! Btw that light did you leave the indicator set to left? Mine dose it if indicator is left or right (for parking) this happens.

its alright saying the water is only the same as five people, but that weights their all the time so the clutch will wear out sooner. so the injectors are giving up as well and they are expensive and need to be tuned to the vehicle, above all it's only a 1.6L, so you know what to do then, Stop being stupid and buy A BIIGER VAN
