Excellent, I learned quite a lot. Never knew you had to avoid touching both sides of a battery with metal tweezers but it does make sense. I use wooden toothpicks or popsicle sticks to position the battery and a pencil with an eraser on the end to push in the battery.

hi, i watch so many different you tube shows about working on watches, but i found your talk was so refreshingly different and true to our working life.... you presented it really well, i loved your explanation on the pricing of the work, my prices have been fixed for so long, i am hesitant about an increase but i think you have persuaded me....thanks again

Thanks for great presentation.. I am interested instructions and equipment.. Total newbie 77 yr old but think I can manage most situations. EQUIPMENT you showed.. searched around but out of my league... NOT a watchmaker. or repair guy in any sense. I have registered with watch parts vendors.. first I need a BENCH.. whatever tools you use or suggest. The display and camera? CLASSES? most are online or DVD. I live in DENVER area and classroom lessons interest me.. JUST a HOBBY. retired folks still have interests. I like watches... way more than scrap value.. These will never be made again.. works or ART.. Melt value? makes me sick. Pawn stars... no appreciation IMHO. I am looking for a bench and stuff you suggest.. In my mind money is no objesct.. But wifey controls money.. Thank GOD. I use to Ebay and buy/sell books. So understand internet. BATTERY REPLACEMENT sounds perfect for my situation.. LOcal jeweler.. look on their faces... GO away.. so we hae many workable watches needing batteries. so do retired friends.. Bob

Interesting to hear from a professional why you won't see the jeweller replace your battery or size your bracelet in front of you. I used to think they did this to hide the simplicity of the task and make it easier to justify charging you $20...

Your process is great for a high end shop. You can take a half hour or more to replace a battery and charge a much higher price. As a watchmaker with my own small store here is no way I can spend that much time changing a battery. It is not unusual for me to have 20 or more watches waiting on my bench for batteries. We do not guarantee waterproofing and are not willing to take on that liability. Our customers would rather have their watches back quickly rather then having to leave them. And what a waste of time to fill out an envelope for each watch. In your ideal world your process is ok, but not in my real world. You should have shown them how to get the case back off a Swiss army watch and how to put the case back on a Timex watch. That’s my opinion after more then 20 years on the bench.
