Uber has billions in cash on hand, enough to last a few years paying its workforce during a time of crisis. This woman should have foregone her salary or give her resignation in protest if she cares as much as she pretends.

Are we questioning the manner in which they let people know? Seems fitting if you are laying off a large group of people if you ask me. I worked for MS testing apps and when week after week there was little to no work they laid off the entire office ...about 30 people. Sucks but it happens.

They’re laying them off because they can’t sustain their business when they’re not bringing in revenue. I have a friend who runs his own wood working shop and had to lay-off 4 employees under him due to no revenue. Is he evil? No. He’s not. 4 vs 3,500 is no different as the circumstances behind it are the exact same. What would be evil, would be if they had no reason behind Sid lay-offs. Look around. I'm not a fan of Uber. Deleted my account, in fact after that Susan Fowler blog post made the company's true values clear. However, as these things go, I thought that wasn't too bad. What are you going to do during a pandemic? Personally call 3,500 people? Make it last an hour? Two? I'd rather have the news cleanly and quickly with immediate support in place from HR/other qualified staff who can answer questions about unemployment/other benefits etc. I could have done without the emotional wobble she made sure to include during her announcement. Don't need to make this something it's not.

Uber isn’t even a profitable company. They have to cut their costs to survive. Uber shouldn’t be a company that employs full time. It doesn’t fit the model at all. What are you talking about “if we think it’s not right”. The best they could have done was cut hours.

overpaid? did you ever work on IT moron, its as hard work, required usually a engineering degree which is not the same as a liberal arts studies degree, its something hard to get, tech is constantly evolving so you have to dedicate a lot of personal time into taking courses read books and learn new stuff, and you are in constant stress, many studies indicate that IT jobs are in the same level of stress that Urgency medical workers, so saying "Tech workers are overpaid" is clearly a stupid comment only someone who doesnt has a clue what kind of work is done on these jobs would say.

Go talk to an IT guy , what it takes to build a system like uber that is used by crores of people everyday. everytime you get your car and every single location of each and every car and exact calculation of fare before you start your ride based on time and distance algorithm. My friend you do not have any single idea about this , how difficult it is. There are soo many hackers waiting to get opportunities from these big companies if they don't develop smart IT software. If IT was soo easy than it would not be the most paying job in the whole world. It has stress, Innovation, lifetime learning itherwise when new technology comes you do not have any demand. There is only scientist job that require this much of innovation. You need to think twice befoee commenting anything wrong on IT.
