I lifted a comment on one of your other videos but this one has slightly fewer replays so I'm putting this here too. I have a city that has a huge problem with healthcare and I have tried everything I can think of to fix it. It's one I have been working on for a long time and would really like to get working fully again. I haven't uploaded it to the workshop yet but if you would like to try fixing it I will.

I think stuff like that was available for some city builder sim, like SimCity. Where you don't just get an empty square of land, but you become a new mayor of an established city, and in some scenarios you took over during a crisis. Say, too much pollution, or a lot of abandoned places, and such. You could also, for example, limit some possibilities. For example, the taxes are controlled and so you can't do the 30-12 fork cheat, you have taxes set at specific level (imagine this as federal taxation or something) or there's a limit that your Industry must always stay at least *this* percent, or your ranking will suffer and industry will withdraw to your neighbour. I'm pretty sure something like this was done, along those lines, and this can be really interesting and challenging.

Except you can't move out of town because you're in a fixed several year mortgage, your kids are in the middle of the school year, you have no job offers in other cities (or the time to go to job interviews in other cities), you don't have the money to move and no one would buy your house if you sold anyway because demand for houses is so low

That was a miraculous save, dude! **** As for others trying to unlock certain buildings that wreck your city: SAVE BEFORE you start to go down that path. Once you get it unlocked, load your save. The building will stay unlocked!****

This city was truly beautiful, a bustling downtown core and lovely hamlets nestled in the hills. Great job on recovering it from the brink of collapse (although it still maintained an eerie beauty post-abandonment)!

The only thing that I need for the medical centre is the court house but it seems complicated to unlock

I use a mod, i cant recall the name, where the roads carry power. which isnt unheard of in the real world for the power distribution to be underneath or along side and part of the road infrastructure

The name of the mod is Eletric Roads, and yes, it is great. You can choose which roads are powered, so you can make it not so cheat

My tip like your tax tip is to leave services at average percentages during the day, but have them cranked up at night. You'll start losing money toward the end of the night, but buildings will upgrade and people will move in like crazy during the evening so you'll make more money the next day. Cheers.

I just save the city in all its glory, then let it die out to get the plaza. Reload the last save and the plaza is available without having to recover the dead city lol. Am I the only one?

My understanding from the wiki is that unlocked is unlocked. You can start a different map and just run without healthcare for a bit... Going to unlock some plazas right quick, brb

Just straight up dropping taxes to like 5% and eating the economic losses is the best way. Dont ever accept the bailout. When I went for the same thing, I literally left the game running and took a shower while the pop came back. But I went from 15k pop back to my 300k pop and once buildings stabilized I upped the taxes and started making money again and left it running for another 30 minutes and finally had a positive balance. One thing I will say is leaving train stations and airports on will help with the traffic splurge of +2000 people per week.

I can see doing a city where you intentionally have an area that is run down like this city was. I used to live in large cities and saw areas like that in each of them. It would definitely be an interesting concept to attempt.

I was on the fence about Cities: Skylines, but you convinced me with your lovely roundabouts and general traffic fixes. What really clinched it was discovering that it's possible to set the game to right-hand drive. Now, to lose my weekend...

This city is GORGEOUS. Also loved the map, anyone knows what map is this?

@@jespersvensson3670I could actually give it a try as well, it really looks quite gorgeous, I'm afraid I would be scared to build onto it, really, it's all so real and natural, mine would be all straight lines, none of those pretty natural curves. A true Magnum Opus. However, did you check, is it there at the same state Biffa receives it, or is it squeaky clean and up and running?

If you want to unlock buildings and not have to worry about recovering from the devastation, create a separate save file specifically for unlocking what ever building you’re trying to unlock. Once you’ve unlocked it, go back and play your normal game save.

Ash’s Life - it’s a global unlock. Once you unlock any building it’s instantly available in every previous game save just like its instantly available in every new city you create from that time going forward. Best method for unlocking buildings is to create a city that you don’t care about for the specific purpose of unlocking buildings so you have them for your other cities. It works perfect.

I'm basically playing this. I hadn't built almost no industry until I reached 50k population (I had some at the beginning, but then to start, then destroyed it and refused to build more until much later at which time I built a little and now I've built farms) . Virtually everything was imported until then and I made money from tax. Now the city exports agriculture and imports everything else.

this reminds me of my old SimCity game on my old SNES - trying to get to a 500,000 population on ANY map was such a ball buster and I managed to do it a few time but you need a map with a lot of landmass and not much water to have a chance at that milestone.I think I would love to try this game out if I ever have the time to go find it that is.Keep the great city vids coming!

I was having something like this happening in Sim City 4 where people just up and started moving out and couldn't for the life of me find what need was not being meant then I looked way down the list and found that the city was full of dead people I didn't know you needed crematoriums/cemeteries. Put a couple of those down and the city started booming again.

Biffa, this is your ‘let’s play’ map! You haven’t played that in ages!!

Before this one I had only watched the traffic fixing videos but this is cool man. Lovely to see how it's almost exciting to see if the city will make it or not hahaha. Good job!

I still watch these videos as if they came out yesterday haha. This is one hell of a talent to have reviving cities like this!

A second beautiful city - again so refreshing. Thanks to the creator. Biffa, when you next do a series of building your own city - can there be a focus on making it the most beautiful city possible. So every district follows the contours of the land, land values are high, etc?

You don't need the bailout as long as you balance your budget and have the patience to rebuild. I had a city recover from a $2 million debt and renamed it "Phoenix City"

@@TheWinjin To my knowledge there is no game-over screen at all. You might however run into a situation in which you can no longer recover your city from the state of decay (unless you put it on unlimited money) - and obviously you can't build anything if you have no money.

Yeah, this game has one of the best 'Game Over' mechanics in that it just lets you keep going until you give up and admit defeat. As long as you know you will eventually return to green just keep declining the bailouts.

The ability to trouble shoot is always a bonus. It is easy to forget the most simple and obvious things when there is so much going on. The huge adjustments you make in order to gain a building can most certainly take a huge decline in your city. It is a huge risk you take. Great job Biffa at saving this city. As you said, it is a beautiful city and very well planned and mapped out. Well done to the gamer who's game it is.

I just stumbled upon your channel and found it very interesting to watch. I've heard of Cities: Skyline but haven't played it before and I'm amazed by how detailed it is with the amount of options and information. Great vid biffa... literally brought It back from the dead... a nice change I bet from fixing that traffic all the time.

Muhahahahah I love it that the "Suddenly raise taxes for X amount of months" works exactly like in SimCity :D And also in that Democracy game... The algorythms just don't expect you to do something so brash and sudden, it's awesome. I've been a faithful SimCity 4 refugee for over a decade now now (with no decent successor in sight) and turned my attention to other genres, but I'd really like to try Cities: Skylines. This channel is encouraging me. I already have some of the skills necessary lol...

Thanks Biffa for all these video's they have really helped me save my city from complete disaster. I have been playing Cityskylines only a month. My citizens were getting sick all the time and I think it was a pollution problem. Then public transport never worked neither did the police and medical clinic they never sent out cops or ambulance's. So thanks again this was a very helpfull video

one thing i know you really want to do when repopulating like this is to disable tons of buildings you dont need at the moment, like power and water as they will only serve to bleed money.

lol, it really bothered me the whole time that he didnt realize this was literally the map he had done a let's play for, I was screaming at the screen like "THIS IS YOUR MAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" so glad he was able to get it fixed, that was awesome

my inner achievement hunter cried at accepting the bailout, even though i know having mods already disabled them

Robin Andersson there is a mod that enables achievements when using mods. I use it and i dont see it as a cheat since mods like traffic manager etc are necessary and disables achievements. Like stuff like traffic manager should be in the base game along some other mods

Lol I unlocked the Lazaret in my very first city. Built it up and then ignored it and let it run overnight just to see what would happen. It collapsed, but the next city got a plaza.

I would love to see more videos like this!!! Traffic fixing is cool and all, but I love how you mixed it up with this episode.

I think you could just drag down the bus count multiplier on a line, to reduce it to 1 or (maybe even) 0 vehicles.

@@itzSalty_ the issue is, there's still some bus lines that are fine and working. Too bad you can't temporarily disable the lines. I think he could also turn some of them into "day time only" lines, I guess that would've halved the bus routes as well?

Lol been watching a few of these videos, and you helped me fix up my extreme < 30% traffic flow on my stupidly high density city xD, still got a few issues but it requires like 1000 assets to run.

Your ultimate fix so far, Biffa! I'm sure you had quite the ball in deleting things (as is your method at times). 😆 Though on the part of the city builder, I wonder why they'd have TWO airports. 🤔 One international airport is enough.

Jesus Christ, if my landlord started charging ridiculous amounts for rent and I started moving out, only for them to go "WAIT NO DON'T LEAVE" and return the rent to normal, I would leave anyway, lol...

I think it would be really cool to see a fix of the same city but with all of the adjustments made immediately and see how much faster population rebounds

What is the base map that this city is built on? I went to the Steam link in the description for the original map, and it didn't say...maybe its the map called "Aurora Borealis" that was in the list of needed items for the map but I have no clue.

I like to bring taxes down to 3% to bring people in and then raise it back to 12% after you have a good number.
