Here is more information about artist Wassily Kandinsky which you can see in this video:
Kandinsky was one of the pioneers of the abstract art movement and his paintings are recognized for their bright colors, geometry, lines and movement. He was one of the first painters whose artworks didn't focus on a particular person, place or object. Instead, they were a seemingly random combination of colors and shapes, known as "Abstract Art". Abstract art does not represent reality exactly as it's seen. This was a brand new concept in the early 1900s and it first appeared because of artists like Vassily Kandinsky.
Kandinsky believed that art should be more than just a depiction of reality and should instead evoke emotions and ideas. He believed artists should be free to explore and be creative of art instead of simply painting exactly what they saw. He used bright, unrealistic colors to paint houses and towns. He then began to paint with more geometric shapes, crossing lines with circles and overlapping shapes. He was very influenced by music and even depicted musical notes into his artworks. This video shows two of Kandinsky's most recognized paintings. "Squares with Concentric Circles from1913" and ten years later "Composition VIII" from 1923. And an interesting fact, one of the reasons Kandinsky combined colors and music as he did was because the artist had synesthesia which means that sometimes his senses would mix. He could actually "hear" colors and "see" sounds.
Today the artworks of Wassily Kandinsky can be seen in some of the world's most prestigious art museums including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern and the Guggenheim Museum. Kandinsky had one of the most important roles in the development of abstract art and influenced scores of artists who came after him.
ABOUT OUR VIDEOS:
Comic Kids is a Miami-based non-profit that helps children in the community learn art through comics, cartoons and books. We create "Art History for Kids" videos as short educational videos that we use in our classes which also serve as resources for teachers and homeschoolers to help their children learn about art history. The goal of these videos is to increase children's art education by exposing them to art history at a young age and videos can be for lower up until high school children. Our videos will show between 20 - 50 photos of famous artists and their paintings, drawings and sculptures so that children can get a vast knowledge and overview of their styles and techniques. We also include information of the artist and their education including the art history movements which explains the importance of the art history timelines they were a part of. All of our videos include specific art terms such as Impressionism, Modernism, Modern Art, Abstract Art, Cubism, Pop Art, Surrealism etc. We keep the videos under five minutes so children may stay engaged as they learn about famous artists, art styles, art definitions, historical artists, art movements, painting techniques and modern art concepts. By releasing videos consistently, we help teachers build a consistent art history curriculum for kids in their classrooms.
