Female wasp: survives winter, anticipated to reproduce hundreds of wasps for the season, and starts building a strong nest. Me: so, you have chosen death
@silverfox9004
28 күн бұрын
These types of paperwasps usually produce far less than 100 individuals because the open nests take less work to create but are harder to maintain than the more successful wasps because an open nest requires more manual cooling by fanning the nest with their wings and more water because despite their efforts water evaporates too fast. The more successful wasps build layers of paper around the nursery to create insulation which allows them to spend less energy taking care of the babies and more energy hunting for the colony oh, also these kinds of paper wasps are generally way more docile than the ones that produce hundreds of workers. I've been able to work with plants inches from their nest without seeing them and they only stung me when I unknowingly put my hand directly on their nest to move a branch (with their nest) out of the way. Despite touching the nest, they didn't pursue me more than half a foot. I'm an entomologist with a love for wasps btw, I've been stung many times but I still adore the tiny hunters

This is a European Paper Wasp. They have an almost identical coloration to Yellow Jackets so it can be difficult to tell them apart. But yellow jackets normally build underground nests (aside from bald-faced hornets). Paper wasps are quite curious but arent aggressive unless you swat at them or mess with their nest. H would not be able to get nearly this close to a yellow jacket without being stung on sight

I'm a German pest controller, and here these paper wasps are under special natural protection by law. They build a way smaller nest, don't reproduce into the hundreds and they are chill enough for you to stick out your finger and you might get to see them land on it to clean themselves. True bee shjt right there. They only get destroyed by us if they pose a big threat, for example right above a door or window of someone who's legitimately allergic, and by law the situation has to be judged by a professional before eradication, simply doing that yourself can get you into trouble and it ain't cheap.

@@__-tp4tm amazing, here in the usa they're invasive and doing really well. You are absolutely correct about how chill they are, I can't think of a single time I got stung where I wasn't at fault. Glad to see they're protected in their native range, I'd much rather have this peaceful species than one that is more dangerous

It’s best to shoo them away before they start that. Often you may see one or two looking for somewhere with an overhang, patio canopies, overhang of your house etc, and they’re not really aggressive if they haven’t established anything yet, because they don’t want to build a nest if they know they’ll have to compete. So shooing them is pretty easy, and they’ll fly off and look for somewhere else. BUT, if they DO have a nest already, well, yeah, call someone to have them remove it if it’s near your house. If you see a few flying around, look for a nest, if you know they haven’t started yet, just moving around gently will let them know to go somewhere else.

@silverfox9004

Man I love wasps. Really and genuinely
its so cool how the creators of aliens took inspiration from these insects and others. it reminds me so much of them
Glad to see someone appreciating wasps. Super cool and rare footage of them starting a nest! Never seen that before
I had a small nest of paper wasps right outside my front door. They're surprisingly chill if you just leave them alone. They would always stop to stare at me as i left but never flew at me or anything.
Let it be said, they really are ingenious engineers
Turns out brake cleaner is great against wasps and their nest btw. Found out at my job when I saw 2 huge nests.

Just make sure there isn't a breeze in your direction and wear glasses, that stuff is terrible in your eyes.
Kill it!! Why wait. Satisfying ending would be for us to see it DEAD.

I saw that was and immediately knew it was a paper wasp. I got stung when I was younger, and I’m scared of any and identified flying bug now.😂

They are almost as quick as termites but, for whatever reason they take it slow until the family grows to about 20 or so

Wasps are tiny little demons that like to destroy lives. They barley pollinate anything, and I guess one argument is that they keep the bug population down but like we use enough pestisides enough. They provide nothing and are only here as a creation of Satan to make us suffer. They also murder bees :(
This wasp might have survived that hellish winter but she will not survive my holy flamethrower
This is why I taped a lighter on a can of axe

I always enjoy watching wasps
We had one of these start a colony on a window. Thought it was cute and kept them around awhile. Finally had to blast them but it was cool to watch for a few weeks.
I mean, it's amazing how these insects do what they do.
Nice work, some folks could learn a lot from watching the work ethic of our winged friends yes?
You should do a Timelapse of that! That would’ve been cool

Bought 3 big cans of wasp spray today I declare war
You’re not going to let her do that... the HOA will have a fit.
I’ve never seen a wasp barely start building a nest, this is beautiful.
