Washing Machine Spanner Nut Removal without Spanner Wrench Kenmore Series 80 Whirlpool Maytag

Welcome to My KZread Channel! For years I've been busy fixing things: cars, air conditioners, appliances, electronics, lawn equipment, you name it. I finally decided it's about time to share my repair experiences with others. My mom always says "Jack of All Trades...Master of None!" Seems an appropriate channel name as I don't claim to have mastered anything, but I'm pretty good at repairing stuff. I just enjoy the satisfaction of fixing things myself. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the videos!

I just used a Hex bolt (5/8" x 3") and a hammer. Put the head of the bolt in the tub nut slot and tapped it with a hammer. Moved it around the nut and it came loose. *I did spray it with WD40 first. Did the same with the split in the drive block, first in one direction and then the other. Used a block of wood to tap around the spindle shaft, walking it around the shaft and viola', the tub lifted out.

Thank you for this quick, no-nonsense video! Had the spanner wrench but the nut was going nowhere-until I followed your WD-40 + hammer advice. Your uncommon common sense set me free! Thank you!!

This is great, Mr. Thank you so much. I'm making fireplaces from stainless washer barrels. They sell like hot cakes, and they're free from the dump.

Hi I have the tool and sprayed wd40 and still can’t remove it. I have been hitting it with a hammer for over an hour. Is there anything else I can try?

Sorry that you are having trouble. Be liberal with the WD40 so that it penetrates down into the threads. Do you have your pliers tightened enough to firmly hold within the notches on the spanner nut? Are you striking the pliers in the right position, just below the knuckle as shown in the video? The force needs to be directed near the teeth of the pliers as much as possible. Are you striking to make the spanner nut go counter-clockwise? If you are doing all these things and still not having success, you may need to get a spanner wrench.
