love old school buildings that were built in the early part of the last century, before World War II. These old buildings have a lot of character, and it breaks my heart to see them get demolished. My girlfriends high school, Wanesfield High, of Sellersville PA built in 1921, is still standing, and is still a high school. In 1993, it was designated as a historic landmark. It's never had any major renovations, but has had some modifications to make it handicapped accessible. Some stairways have been replaced with ramps. The toilet stalls in the bathrooms have been reconfigured. It still has it's original iconic schoolhouse globe lamps in the hallways, which they now use LED bulbs in. In those lamps, they used to use 200 watt incandescent bulbs. The building has the bench style fluorescent light fixtures in the classrooms, which were put in in the late 1950's, and use the twelve foot bulbs. The hardwood floors in the classrooms have been sanded and refinished with a flame retardant finish. They have put in a high tech fire alarm system with interconnected smoke and heat detectors. When my girlfriend was a student there, they still had the original lockers, recessed into the hallway walls, which were big enough to put a mate's chair in. Harris had a mate's chair in her locker to use as a lunch chair in the cafteteria due to a chair shortage. It was to save herself the frustration of having to search for a lunch chair, while her lunch period ticked away and her food got cold. Since Harris graduated in 1987, they've taken out the radiators and put in a new heating system that's also a central A/C system. When Harris was there, each classroom had a window A/C unit. They've also put in new windows, and smaller lockers.

Except the City of Clearfield, Utah already has lots of low income housing. This building needed to be torn down. It wasn't suited for housing. The upgrades required for it to meet the building code for dwellings would have been ridiculously costly. The building was built before earthquake, fire and modern building requirements. It was becoming a liability. They built a nice new building to the west and once they were done tore this one down. It's a nice thought to think about repurpousing an old building, but you have to be practical and sensible about it. BTW, the new school building is complete with a community center that helps disadvantaged families with daycare and Adult Education. That's something that the old building didn't have room to accommodate.

There was a elementary school I went to in kindergarten that's no longer there now. I think it was built in 1967. Well, the Windows look like the East high school building. It can be seen on Google street view from October 2007, to September of 2015. It appeared to be demolished in 2015 or 2016. I do remember going there back in late 2014 to early 2015.

That's a beautiful, brand new Volvo wrecker, wow! My one of the bucket lists to do a demolition. Oops, class is going on, not today, it should be done over the weekend. It seems the backhoe operator is hesitant to do a complete demolition for a fairly good building.
I love old schools that were built before World War II, and it's so sad to see them destroyed and reduced to rubble.

It was an honorary operator duh! Maybe an old principal or something
The operator was not very good
Shout out to the woman that keeps yelling "break a window"
That looks like fun, I bet the driver of that backhoe is loving every second of the demolition.

I believe the elementary school I went to was built in the same year it's still there
Seems like the building was in good shape. Local goverment and housing authority could have developed this into apartments for low income senior citizens.

Except Davis County is one of the most crowded in the state of Utah, I'm sure they needed the location for something else or a new school

I do remember going there back in late 2014 to early 2015.
funny how the school owner did a better job at demolition then the worker 😂
Too painful to continue, cheerio!
2:43 Small bump from excavator Man: woohoo
Near the end, when they were digging shallow and sifting the soil gently from the bucket, they were looking for a time-capsule or something.. I believe anyways.

Why exactly was this school torn down? It looks like it was still in good shape.
I agree with the guy below. The excavater operator must be a rookie. He probably used $25 worth of diesel and only did $5 worth of damage. 😏
So, did they ever get the school torn down or are the still working on it here in 2019?
What are the going to build on that space?
wow this thing has alot of levers and buttons....hmmmm, wonder what this does
That guy must be new at the job.
Can you say trainee on a demo job, where a lot of operators learn the machine?
very good video thank you
There is clearly some purpose in the deliberate and cautious process here. Whomever was doing this had a purpose in proceeding cautiously I agree with the comment that there might be a capsule. There is too great a value in the rare opportunity to raze such a building of brick on such a lot. Great training ground of 2 story demo.
Wake me when they start or when it looks like they might be getting serious.
This has to be the first time this person ever operated a excavator !

What was the reason for the demolition?!
What a cool looking excavator
All windows were there, This school could be millions of dollars
A little bit oversized excavator for that job?
Talkin about sum "the school was the oldest in the davis distract" that school looks like it wasn't even that old, and a matter of fact it look like it was built 2 days ago still could've been used.
I'm not trying to be an a****** but this guy is slower than molasses. Don't ever get done.
2018?
They should run water jets Warner over the building so that dust from the elementary school might have asbestos in it and you don't want that stuff in your lungs it also keeps the dust down
How many years
I've never seen a 360 degree operator so slow
wow, looks like Still a nice school...sad..
This place looks of 60s construction he’ll the schools around here 3 were built before 1920 and their still used daily they aren’t full time schools anymore but that was only stopped in 2012

What a shame to see this old school building get destroyed that building had many uses someone could have bought that building and turned them into apartments or a business.
Why does this school has to be destroyed? It looks fine!
The guy seems to be unexpirienced. And they shold have replaced the standard bucket with a dedicated demolishing attachment.
Why was this beautiful building being torn down???
How old is this school?

That guy must be a rookie operating that excavator.
I did extensive calculations on a supercomputer based on this operators' slowness and total lack of talent and the result was that it would take him 182 hours of real time video to demolish the entire building. HOW SAD !
Was that one of the students running the machine????
He was afraid he was going to get his shiny Volvo dirty LOL
Schools out Forever!
It makes me sad because a good shape building could be reused
What's the squeaking
an operator with balls would have taken half the time
This makes me want to do this to my High School. Btw I'm a Freshman.

Why not recycle all of those windows, parts? Don't get it.
