You'll likely find the relay stashed somewhere in the car, usually the car is doctored when it gets to the yard to make it a non runner so salvage staff can get them cheap in the full knowledge the engine is fine
They might of removed the relay to stop whoever has the other key from taking the car.
This looks to be a great car Phil, when it’s repaired it will make a reliable family runaround for someone, great video as always❤.
Relay may have been removed to bridge fuel pump to drain tank.
As someone who works for a company that deals with insurance, trade and repo cars that rhymes with mofart. That is most likely a repo, I know with who I work for if a car is reported as a runner by the company putting it in before it's picked up then all of a sudden found to be a non runner when it's received it will be investigated as the insurance or whatever company puts it thought won't be happy as they obviously want as much money back as possible. Our receivers (at my yard atleast) wouldn't even know how to disable a car 😂 that and staff aren't allowed to bid on vehicles. That I can almost guarantee a repo guy has pulled the relay or previous owner has just to be a dink to whoever they owed the money to.
Looks like a doctored up car from a trade seller to me.
Check oil and coolant levels before running it for too long, might be an issue.only other thing I can think of is maybe the salvage auction needed a relay for another vehicle.
Great result Phil makes things easier for the repair 👍
I don't know anything about these ,but as it had bang in the back, sometimes they switch the safety fuse. ? Worth a look.
Doctored up springs to mind....look forward to next vid....keep up the good work
Do you think perhaps the relay was removed to immobilise it for some obscure reason ?
hope you checked the oil, saw an oil warning coming up on the dash!
Good detective work Phil! Major result. A little bit of fettling with the bodywork and you have a very desirable low mileage motor 🍻🇬🇧😎
Well done Phil. That is going to make a great car
has it got mutch fuel as you would remove relay to bridge pump to take fuel out
As you've just found out mate, most 4 pin relays have an identical pin layout. Same with 5 pin ones too.
Maybe to stop the driver driving? Old person or someone fond of the the drink, I have heard of stuff like that. Because the damage looks to be 2 crashes to me
Fog lights being incorrectly called spot lights again. Sorry, it's a pet hate of mine, along with door mirrors still being called wing mirrors, and breaks instead of brakes 😀 For ease of identification, front fog lights are generally fitted below the centre line of the bumper, spots are fitted above.
Nice find sounds like someone was hoping to get it cheap who was in the know.
Possibly an Ex police car ? Due to some of the interior trim pieces missing and the exterior damage,
If it was an auction there’s a chance it was nobbled in the hope it wouldn’t gain much interest none runner. Perhaps they viewed it prior to the sale. It’s hypothetical
Lovely Jubbly video Phil. Sometimes somethings just can't be explained, but I reckon someone's stopped the finance payments after it was damaged.
Perhaps the relay was nicked for another car, maybe a vw audi?!
Well done Phil pleased it’s running for you
Its either an ex Motability car which has been damaged and then doctored to get no comebacks or a finance repo. The engine is a fully Suzuki designed unit based around their well proven 3 cylinder engines fitted to their other models for many years. This car though runs a mild hybrid system to boost power and lower emissions.
Thinking about the relay, it was removed to stop it being nicked after an accident, then mislaid
Very strange but turned out to be an easy fix it seems! Just one of those odd things that you are unlikely to get an answer to but will alway wonder about. looks fairly light damage so should be a nice car.
Great video mate
Repo may be. Good buy for you :)
Possibly a finance repossession and the "owner" who owed the finance has disabled it, to make it as difficult as possible for the recovery company!

Yeah or other way round finance company sago it to prevent owner trying to get it back. Prob not all keys with car. Superb cars imo. My brother lives in NZ and runs 2 vitaras with over 200k on each one both 1.6 petrols
Great result. Just get the appropriate Suzuki part relay and job done!
Strange one this Phil, look forward to your next video
Wonder if it's been a repossession and the owner did it out of spite

I was thinking the same
Boosterjet is Suzuki's own - their engine experience/quality/performance is one of their plus points, although you will find some diesel Vitaras with Peugeot engines. Bumper trim change may have coincided with change in the types/sizes of engines offered. Place in Cradley Heath had a rare cat N gold/black Vitara Allgrip with low mileage - sold very quickly.

Thanks for the correction. Doublechecking, Suzuki has used Peugeot diesels (also Renault and Mazda) but not on this model.@@volt8684
Its not unusual to find things done to cars to reduce the bidding. The only other thing I can think of is if it had an oil pressure problem to stop it being run?? I would go with the first option. Cars that have been put in auction with dents that are outwards you know someone has tried to improve the appearance we have all bought one, once. Well sorted Philip it now looks like a sound buy!
It would be useful to know what the relay does so you can check why it was removed. Look forward to the next video on this car. Cheers. 👍

Why didn’t you watch the whole video? Because he fitted a relay and the car started first time

Fuel pump is my guess
As per a few other comments Phil, definitely seemed like an odd way to approach the problem. Watch Diagnose Dan for a more methodical and safe approach and Salvage Rebuilds and Legit Street Cars too for that matter, even Samcrac would have checked the engine fluids before cranking. Or, you had done all that off camera and forgot to mention it🤔. Definitely one of the easier diagnostics but the history of that car is curious. Damaged but not repaired under insurance, attempted repair to body work but rear wheel out of place, and lower front bumper looks like its been swiped by a forklift. If its a repo, you need to run a CarVertical check 😂. Would have been good to see you run another diagnostic check to if other modules could now be reached.
Start with a wiring diagram!
Note that although a normal relay will work, the relay that feeds the ecu is often a specific type that has a protective diode in it so that the ecu stays isolated if the battery is reverse connected. There may be one of those hiding in your Audi harness.
Someone wanted a cheap auction but lost out that goes on all the time.
Relays are only switches ,to take the load of the wiring etc.
Great car and a positive seat of you're pants fix
Brilliant for you son just body work to do 👍
Great result, I would be well happy
Sz3 is the base model
People are not as honest as yourself
Hi phil nice one.Easy fix although spares are not cheap for this car unless there's a donor one in the scrapyard.I don't particularly like these 3 cylinder engines i believe they are all wet belt driven.
@byronmills5952

No wet belts on these. It's a turbo charged development based on the old school Suzuki 3 cylinder engine which dates back 30 years and used in Altos, Wagon Rs etc etc.
Maybe the car was going to repo’d? Or has some one viewed at the auction and removed it
Great bit of detective work there. I would be well proud of myself. Great job. I never would have found that.
Nice one Phil
I take it you did a vehicle history check before getting it? That would show if it was a finance grab back or not. It could also have been either third party insurance or driven by someone not holding correct insurance, hence no payout involved. Or simply as mentioned earlier relay removed to prevent starting because of the wheel issue as a safety requirement.

This is one of the few KZread channels not promoting Car Vertical - thankfully.
I've done similar to stop car getting nicked, I've heard of people doing it to a car when the car goes to the partner as part of divorce, lots of possible reasons

Back in the day people would take relays out fuses out rota arms off to stop the car being stolen.
Hp repossession possible????
Was the car a repossession? The owner did it so the car could not be taken
happy days Phil i used to take mine of to stop it from getting nicked
Well done Phil
DME relay removed because of bent axel would be my guess.
I wonder if it's got a fuel inertia switch which cuts off the fuel pump.
If it's been sat around for sometime the relay might have been 'borrowed' to start another car
Where's the classic BMW gone Phil?😢
Someone betting on it going to auction and hoping to get it dead cheap as a non runner. Then pulls the relay from their pocket , fits it, happy days
I had a 18 plate 1.6 kuro all black car good reliable car but underpowered as no turbo on 1.6 petrol and a lot smaller than the 09 grand vitara i had beforehand. 😊
Salvage people took the relay or the owner did but either way definitely sabotaged
Where’s the c63?
Very odd.
I bet it was removed to make it a no start to lower the sale value.
Phil I hate these small engines 1 litre with 111bhp a car that size should be 2 litre 180bhp, hope your okay, Mark

Why would a Suzuki Vitara need 180bhp?
@leedstown

@@bigjml 180bhp is not much power it's a reasonable sized car.. Your run if the mill bmw 320d has 187 bhp.. My mercedes E class has 400 bhp,, my golf has 245bhp as standard., 180bho is nothing

Very strange
Repo and maybe damaged in the process
Maybe it was two lovers? One damage the car through drink driving? and the other one disabled it to stop them? and they split up and sold the car as is? I might be right I might not be?
Someone stole the Relay for them self maybe ?
Could you hear me shouting, scan it first!!!! Don't start it, we done it worked! God you're lucky
Hiya Phil, Not going to mention any names but used a different recovery firm when my guy wasn’t available and got speaking to the new driver who mentioned that he always grabs the locking wheel key and a couple of relays when he collects write offs. Kin idiot thought it was funny.
Seam sealer in boot looked different colour on camera looked 🍑 lol maybe stolen recovered ?
BONUS BUY....
lol its a runner
i expect its been hit whilst parked and by an insured driver and just sold it on. Fuel cut off button been triggered.
So they can get it cheeper
Insurance job to pay off the finance
Hello mate

Nope - It's a Suzuki, engine known as the K10C and is a development of a 30 year old design of their own.
