Was this a bit too ambitious? / Clough Head / S1-Ep3 Hiking the Wainwrights
Hiking the Wainwrights - Season 1: Eastern Fells - Episode 3. Clough Head, The Lake District
I knew this was going to be along one but in the end it was perhaps a little too long! What started out as a warm calm day down in the valley turned out to be a blustery one up in the hills making the walking along this exposed route quite arduous at times.
But a fine day out nonetheless and I managed to have 99% of the route to myself making for a very peaceful - if a little frustrating and sweaty - day.

Loving the wainwright videos . I’ve lived in the Lake District 46 years ! My entire life and have only just started walking on the beautiful fells that surround me . Your videos have inspired me to get off my fat ass . I can’t wait for Saturday to get back out on them 👏

Whenever I’ve done the Dodds its been in clag so great to see what the tops and the linking routes are really like! Please keep these videos coming - they are top class.
Wow…that view at the end was something else - absolutely heavenly! 😍. Loving this series. Thank you for sharing Glenn 🙏🏼💕
Yes! These are going be a great accompaniment to the books and for someone like me who hasn’t delved into them as much as I used to do a great incentive to get them back out.
Never realised the names like "Sty" and "dodd" had meanings behind them in relation to the topography and geology of the mountains. Learn something new everyday
MAGIC half hour condensed .... many thanks Glenn.

Another great video. With all those cracking views I did miss the "fell labeling" we saw in the last video but I guess the wind may have made the static panoramic shots a bit tricky. Loved the great shots of Fisherplace waterfalls right near the end. Cannot wait to see where you go next.

Thanks very much 😊 the wind did indeed scupper the labelling 🙄
Just rewatching your wainwright series 1.. I went to Lake District a lot as a kid, teens and 20's - way back and stayed at Kewswick with a family friend. I remember those bits of tractor etc with foliage growing through and being confused as they seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. I remember going up the little path afterwards and looking at Dad who was leading the hike as if he was mad...where were we going!...Dad led the hikes and Mum got us out of trouble as he always got lost and I was hopeless. On hot days it was a slog up to White Pike and we would sit on the rocky bit and drink our fill. It was strange all the grassy Dodds, but the views, as you say, were really incredible. Where I live near Dungeness Kent it is as flat as a pancake, at sea level... so I would have to acclimatise, by visiting as many pubs as possible on the way up now!🤑🤣It's a fantastic series, this episode in particular as I am so familiar with the area.
Another great video. Loving this series and can't wait to do this hike myself one day 🙌
As one who has recently summited all 214, your videos are very well done and a great reminder of previous days out. Thanks for doing this. Looks like we will have a couple years of welcomed viewing.

Well Glen, based on that, I have just changed my route for Saturday. Thank you.
Brilliant Glenn keep em coming 👍😀
That view from Brown Crag looked glorious. A definite spot for a good sunset shot. 👍🏼
Absolutely loving this series!! I was in the central fells during the heatwave myself and wow was it hot in the valleys!!! I did part of this walk for my birthday to see the sunrise from Helvellyn, it's a looooong route but very accessible!
Loving this Series!! I completed the Wainys before and this is a joy to watch! It's like reliving the experience! Thanks so much! 🤩🤩👍👍

Awesome. Did that walk in reverse last month! In the quarry near the old tractors I got a bit lost and the light was going, there was an old guy, in tweed, with a sheep dog, looking round the quarry. I asked him directions and he pointed with his stick and told me to take the corpse road. I’m sure he grinned. It was a strange moment. Great video 👍

A Dodd too far, I really enjoyed this one Glenn. I must endeavour to plant my feet on those particular fells as I have not been up any of the Dodds ATB Michael.😊👍
Enjoyed that one - very inspirational!
That's a long hike. After the first stile, if you'd continued up, instead of going left, it's a much shorter and nicer route to the top of Clough Head, IMHO. Loving this series so far.

Where you met the swailies and decided to stick to the path you knew, you can go right up to the top that way, it cuts across all the scree just below clough head , nice route up 👌

Really enjoying the Wainwright videos, and they are leading me back into your earlier work. They show the beauty of the Lakes district through an artists eyes! On the early videos Finn was with you, has he retired? Thanks again.
With all the crap going on in the world and this country right now . It’s lovely to watch your videos 🌳😎👏👏
Another great video from Black Crag Dodd 🤣
Another great video! I did this route (or very similar) over winter last year with snow on the tops, and you are right it was stunning!! 😍
Hi Black Crag, I never got up the Dodds so great to see somewhere different. Once again great idea to climb all the Wainwrights👍👍👍
Another excellent video. I still have to do these Wainwrights. Looking forward to them. Better get them done before the rains return.
Excellent video again. Even though i have walked them i did not know what dodd meant! Look forward yo your next video.
good choice of pub Timothy Taylors beer 🤩
Great video mate, recently done helvellyn in near 30c heat 🥵 via the edges after a waildacmp at stony cove pike/St ravens edge the previous night😀 was knackered mate, I actually had a power nap on top of helvellyn after feeling a bit dehydrated 🥵 Great fun scrambling. Really disappointed about the amount of bottle tops, handkerchiefs, sweet rappers and other shit I had to carry back 😪 selfish bastards. Atb 👍

BRAVO AGAIN SIR !!!. What a superb vlog though I did miss pointing out the fells and their names in print or what ever it's called non the less still brill. And yes I got the pub guess right ( even though it was the only one shown) !!!😃... Fantastic as ever I'm gonna drop the DIY store bit it's a bit crap now so all the best Mike
Glen, Just watched your latest 'Hiking the Wainwrights' vlog, great stuff. I was even more interested than usual because on Monday August 8th I did White Side, Raise, Watsons Dodd, Stybarrow Dodd and Sheffield Pike and wondered if you were up there on the same day. Keep up the good work, regards Kevin
I have a plan for this summer to do the Dodds and whiteside so this is an excellent insight... I'm cheating though, dropped off at the top and collected at the bottom!🤣 Great vlog, loving this new series, camera's flatten things so much.. the real mountains are so much more imposing... and all the better when you have them to yourself! I wild camped on heron pike on fairfield horseshoe last weekend and didn't see a living soul... perfect!! Keep up the excellent work!
If my experience is anything to go by you’ll have plenty of Hartsides as you work your way through the Wainwrights! Plenty of days when the planning was a little optimistic and the legs complain. The missing ones won’t be going anywhere soon so look forward to ‘catch up’ days in the future 😆 Don’t know about you but I’m leaving the biggest til last. Planning to do Scafell Pike with as many friends as possible carrying a few sherbets to celebrate 🤣 Really enjoying this series.
Bloody lovely lad, how far did you walk ? Looked quite a few miles there. Stunning scenery as always, look forward to the next installment.

Thanks 😊 looking at the analytics nobody was interested in the photographs. That said, I'll probably start adding them in again on those days when I get some. I don't always get any photos though.
Fantastic, great you had the route all to yourself, what brand and size are your a backpack and the OMM sack which clips on at the front.?

As ever, brilliant! I don't even have an aerial for my TV any more due to everything being on demand but these vids are the one thing I watch at the same time each week as they air. What camera do you use on the end of the stick and what res and FPS do you film in?
whats the name of the app/program your using for showing the routes your taking? brilliant video as always subscribed last month keep the content coming!
Loving these new vlogs Glenn. One question tho, are you putting on a Northern Ireland accent? “Mars Bar”
