What if Genie didn't really have rules, and it was just his morals because we know he has morals. For example Rule number three: I can't bring people back from the dead. IT'S NOT A PRETTY PICTURE, I DON'T LIKE DOING IT! Does that mean he did it before? He probably did and it ended badly, and the only reason he calls them rules is because if he said "these are the 3 wishes I don't like to grant" some people wouldn't care and would still make the wish that he would be forced to grant, but if since he said "they are rules" people wouldn't even bother making the wish. Another example, What if he did grant a wish of making someone fall in love with someone else and it ruined an entire family or even caused an entire war. What if genie caused the battle of Troy. What if Paris made a wish to Genie that Helen of Sparta would love him, and that's how Paris "stole" Helen because as I remember it Helen had the freedom to choose her husband why didn't she just choose Paris from the beginning. (this is just an example its the only thing I could think of at the time, and I really don't know the story that well) Also what if he just feels bad when people die so he doesn't like to grant the wish to kill people. SORRY FOR THE BAD GRAMMAR IDGAF JON SOLO PLEASE DO A THEORY ON THIS!!!!

There's actually a mythical creature called a *Jin* originally started in the Middle East. The way it works is that the Jin's spirit lays dormant in a peice of furniture or household item. If a person finds the item, or uses it, the Jin gives you wishes and such. But here's where it gets dark. After you make your wishes, the Jin knocks you out into a koma. In this koma, or dream, you have everything you wished for and everything seems perfect. In the real world, the Jin feeds on your blood until you die within a few weeks. Those few weeks, to the victim, seem like a whole lifetime. The only way to break the koma is for a person you love like a spouse or a parent to wake you up. I learned this from one of those books filled with mythical creatures and old stories like this so yeah IDK.. I haven't watched the video yet but this is what I heard.

If genie says he can see a million years into the future, then this debunks the theory that aladdin takes place in a post apocalyptic world. One of the biggest pieces of evidence for this is how genie can impersonate famous people from modern day but this can now be explained by genie being able to see 1 million years into the future. Interesting.....

  • @TyCash7

Um...what? The future doesn't just end though because humanity is gone. The universe still goes on lol. And jenie isn't bound by the natural laws of the world. He is in fact supernatural, outside the natural universe. Him being able to see a million years into the future doesn't really prove one way or the other, because states of time don't just end. The past will always be the past, present always the present, and future will always be there. For more than millions of years. Even on an apocalyptic world. In fact, his visions could literally be him in his bottle floating in the cosmos until he lands on a planet and has to wait for life to evolve to the point of intelligence.

I have one major problem with this theory. At the end of the film, Genie suggests that Aladdin use his "third wish" to become a prince "again". This implies that Aladdin really was a prince before AND that there is only one wish left. Also, Genie seemed genuinely shocked that Aladdin gave up his one chance at happiness to keep his promise.

Another thing to consider is that the Genie didn't actually fulfill that first wish until the very end of the third movie. Saving Aladdin's life wasn't a second wish, since he was already bound to protect him until he became an actual prince. So if Aladdin hadn't freed him with his real second wish, the Genie would still owe him a wish.

This is for the Disney version btw... Edit: So after watching this video I came up with a theory to why Genie can only grant 3 wishes. What if Genie isn't immortal, and he has a certain amount of wishes he can grant before he dies, and he wants to satisfy as many people using his given amount of wishes, so he tells people that the limit is 3. Another possibility is he knows that if you tell a human that they have unlimited wishes they will end up power hungry and be consumed by their greed. So to avoid this he just sets the limit to 3. Also what if genie can grant his own wishes, in Aladdin you see him shape shift and do this using his powers even though he is not instructed to (even before Aladdin freed him from the lamp). What if he has the ability to do what ever he wants with his powers when he is out of the lamp as long as it doesn't defy his masters wishes, So technically if he wanted to he could create rules and regulations for himself as long as the master didn't tell him not to. (im gonna comment this in all the Aladdin theories)

this theory is interesting but it only makes sense if the genie were feigning disbelief and discomfort when aladdin was bringing about his plan to set up jafar to be a genie. It was only because genie had told aladdin about the limits of being a genie that Aladdin actually came up with the plan to trick Jafar into wishing to be a genie, and after the genie was with jafar, he no longer had any need to fulfill any of Aladdin's wishes, technically.

Doesn't ruin the story, and it's actually a pretty logical explanation, it all adds up.

One thing that always bugged me with that movie is when Aladdin wishes to be a prince, he is granted all the luxuries that go along with it having all the servants, animals and treasures that were paraded through the streets of Agrabah. I always wondered where Genie conjured up all of these things from, especially the servants. Then if you think about it, none of them are ever seen again and there's no mention of what happened to it all when Aladdin's identity is revealed and he is stripped of all those luxuries at some point. So, first, where did they all come from and then where did they all go? It always disturbed me to think of what could have happened to all those servants. If they were conjured up magically, does that mean they weren't actually real to begin with and they just magically disappeared back to the unknown at some point? It's a big plot hole as far as I'm concerned and it still bugs me.

Make sense, I thought the genie was going above and beyond because of 3rd wish on the table

I just thought of something: genies are an offshoot of the litch.

Honestly the theory makes a lot of sense. Sadly I don’t think Disney was smart enough to think of that though...

I love the lengths that people are willing to go to in order to explain away a plot hole or get overly pedantic over wording! Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Sometimes a plot hole is just a plot hole.

Makes a lot of since farther helped by his second wish being used to save his life which he would want done but couldn't wish for himself.

Genie also made sure to really, really grant Aladdin's second wish to save his life. Look how alive Aladdin is at the end of the film.

True or not, it is good to look at childhood classics in a new light. At least it is entertaining. Anything to add for the Wizard of Oz or perhaps the original Thundercats (loved it when I was 6).
