While I don't think we are anywhere close to a continuation of the IP, I can see Sony remaster the 3 PS3 games for PS5 or PS6 as that would be a good time to rerelease the IP as enough time has passed since the last game in the series.

11:40. To answer your question, Capelli has a record. Insubordination and a few other black spots. A well known infamous reputation. Heck, according to my achieves, the guy was dishonorably discharged before the events of the first game and was gonna go to prison if he wasn't given the choice to join SRPA's program. Compare that to Hale and his decorated record, its not hard to see how people would be bias towards Capelli's claim. We actually get the thoughts of surviving soldiers over this in the book, A Hole in the Sky. Fun fact: Susan, Capelli's wife, is Hale's foster sister.

I haven't personally played much of Half Life 2 but from what I have played and seen Resistance 3 does look to take a lot of inspiration from HL2

The visuals are great I love classic post apocalyptic games visual style. The weapon selection looks great too. I still need to find time to play this series.

I'll deny till the day I die that this franchise has run it's course. I even e-mailed Insomniac once praising the series and saying that the end of R3 may have been the end of the game, but it could never be the end of the series. There are so many loose ends, so many mysteries, so much potential. One of the richest, more layered universes I've ever seen in any media.

I love these games. I remember the first one being launched with the PS3 back in 2006. I saw trailers and ads. I wanted to play it so bad. But we were strapped for cash. I finally got around to playing all threee of them in 2018 It was worth the 12 year wait

Gears of War straight demolished Resistance in popularity, I feel like the games continued to get better, but got put on the back burner because they were slightly similar to something bigger at the time. Great stuff as always man, cant wait for you to start on God of War!

Gears of War was basically the same invading enemy and color palette as Résistance. But Gears did everything better. Better visuals. Not annoying difficulty Also co-op Better characters Better story Better visual design ... for everything Revolutionized 3rd person cover shooting Active reload was a great idea. Better pacing and story twists. Resistance is like a bargain bin discounted Gears, except first person.

@@raresmacovei8382 Resistance had Coop Campaign in all 3 games, the story is more depressing than Gears, you mentioned Visuals twice, Resistance had auto and Manual reload (Not sure if thats what you meant), The cover shooting had already been done in other games from earlier years (Resident Evil), and the difficulty is based literally on which one you pick, which in all 3 (And I think Retribution and Burning Skies) they had a secret difficulty with Superhuman. The games are also far from being Bargain bin Gears of War, as they aren't in the same Category of shooters, and the Aliens are more alien like than the Locusts. Also the scale of the battle is highly scaled towards the chimera, simply because of their Tech. Its why they won the war in 1951 and then again in 1953. In Gears, the soldiers are literally in Big ass Mech suits with weapons that aren't based off of weapons of today, instead being entirely fictional, while the Human weapons in Resistance are all based off real weapons. Like the M5A2 is based off the M1A1 Carbine, the Rossmore is based off the Trench Guns from WW2, the Magnum is basically a .357 Magnum, the Fareye is based off the Springfield, and the rest are all Chimera Tech made by the Chimera or Humans using their tech. As for the Suits in Resistance, its standard Military attire, then in 3 it was Civilian Clothing from Leather Jackets, to Basic Fabric Jackets, shirts, pants, and basic Hiking, Military and Rain boots. This isn't to say gears is a bad franchise, but to say Resistance is a poor mans Gears of War is incredibly insulting, as the Lore of the Chimera is much different from Gears, and they are way more Brutal and Vicious in the Resistance games, with Enemies that jump on you and peck you to death, swarm you and enter your body through all holes, enemies that tear you open like Zombies, Enemies that gore you to death and play with your insides, and enemies that literally swallow you whole, aswell as gun you down. Gears is a good franchise, but they should've stopped after 3, cause 4 sucked, and 5 is forgettable, with tactics being ignored, while the Resistance games are consistently good from the first game, to the last, with all having Set backs making 1 better than the other. Like 3 is better than 2, and Retribution is better than Burning Skies. But everyone can agree, that they are must own games if you have a PS3, PSP or Vita. Just like the Xbox camp will say the first 3 Gears games are must owns, but will tell you to ignore the games after that. In Conclusion, both Franchises are steller franchises with ups and downs, but all worth your Dollary doos if you own 1 platform or the other.

Resistance also killed Nathan hale which turned some of its fans from the third game.

Dunno why but when I played Wolfenstein: The New Order it really reminded me of Resistance 3. I haven't played Resistance 3 since release so I can't quite put my finger on it today. I think it was the story beats.

I think the resistance story would make a great movie or TV show. Hopefully the PS5 actually gets a reboot of the series like is rumored. I can wait to see that. Edit: if nothing else this series really shows how good insomniac is as squeezing everything they can out of a system's hardware. Look at the difference between the first entry and this one. It's hard to believe it's all one console generation.

A new resistance and or a remake is one of the things i want most in life.

From someone who never owned a playstation or xbox, these videos are perfect to get a pretty good idea of what I missed. Also a great guide for what to play if I can ever find the time: Resistance 3 looks like a good candidate!

Great video and I have to say, the Resistance and Killzone franchises really did tug at me to buy a PlayStation but Gears and Halo were too good for my liking to give up. Speaking of Gears, that intro bit, goddamn - 3 million sales in the first week? That was insane for back then. Gears of War 3 was an absolute gem and the nostalgia I hold for that game will never die. Yet another fantastic video, and, despite me still being an Xbox fan, I really hope Killzone and Resistance make a comeback

I was fortunate enough to own both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 but I totally get it, Gears and Halo are some of my all time favourite series they're incredible! I know right, Gears 3 was special and one of the biggest successes for the series. I'd love to see Resistance and Killzone make a comeback someday but with Insomniac working on Marvel titles and Guerrilla deep into the Horizon series I think it'll be a while unfortunately.

Resistance was my childhood, one of my favorite game series of all time. I have the trilogy and a PS3 laying around. Probably should replay these amazing games from start to end.

I've played this game back in 2018, and its now one of my favorite FPS Games of all time, even if this is a Halo Killer game. This game deserves a remake.

What a criminally underrated game, man. Insomniac really should do at least a remaster of the trilogy for New Gen

Been waiting for this bad boy for a while, had it on my watch later since release waiting for the perfect time to watch and it did not disappoint. Love this game and loved the co-op I remember playing through this with my mate a few times. Also loved the multiplayer

Glad this video was worth the wait mate, had an absolute blast revisiting Resistance 3 and I wish I could have revisited the co-op because I remember loving it.

I recently played through all 3 games (picked up Retribution for PSP and I'll be picking up Burning Skies soon), and 1 and 2 left me kinda of frustrated. I found the difficulty in 1 pretty annoying at times, but I had an absolutely blast with 3 and I feel like the series really hit its stride. I'd really love to see the series make a comeback; I think it's ripe for a reboot, but it sounds like Insomniac isn't going to be revisiting it any time soon unfortunately.

Thanks for truly reviewing one of my favourite games. My late dad and I played these together constantly. I’ll cherish the memories forever and ever.

If you have PS Now you can play this epic game. Insomniac needs to remaster it for PS5 ASAP.

I fully agree with you on the emotional beats of the game. It's the best of the series even though I think the first game is the most fun with its wacky guns and vehicle segments. They actually made me feel something when the prisoners kill off the scientist and when we lose all hope when entering new York. The game even backs this up with the journal entries you pick up during the game. One journal entry you pick up next to a dead soldier is talking about how their full assault on the tower completely failed and this last remaining soldier does a suicide run on some chimeran troops by himself is truly some haunting stuff. On a historical note for how they tried to market this game: I remember buying the Battle Los Angeles Blu-ray because on the cover it said that it had a Resistance 3 demo with it! I bought it. Installed the update it came with because my parents didn't pay for wifi back then. The demo was great. It was the level where they're trying to get through a flooded town on the boat and get shot off it at the end of the level. I thought it was interesting how when I played the full game, they went with a different voice actor for the scientist. In the demo they still had the voice actor from the second game interestingly enough.

R3's story was insanely well done. The atmosphere was perfect and really made you feel hopeless. I do feel sad that there wasn't any Coop and the online MP was a step down from R1 and R2. I've been begging for a remaster of the series for years. I do feel they could get an R4 in there to "wipe out" the remaining numbers of Chimera. They could pair that with a remaster collection of R1 - R3 hell....even throw in the PSP title in there. Always will be one of my favourite series.

they need to bring this back on vr and have a massive open world with co op, multi player and a survivor mode. all 3 games had great ideas and weapons and other things and needs to come back for this day in age.

I seriously cannot comprehend why the sales back then was that bad for this game, I pre-ordered it and played it so much I even get my mates to come and played the campaign as local co-op. There are only two trilogies I played through the whole 3 games, this is one of them, the other, was dead space. But unlike the dead space, Resistance 3 is absolutely the highlight here. Should be ported to PC too

I bought resistance 3 the week it came out. I was 13 at the time, and having replayed fall of man and 2 (which is my personal favorite) and apart from agreeing about everything you said, it felt unique and vastly different since it reminded me of lonely fps like half life where the protagonist is usually alone, especially the radio and alcohol moment which stuck in my head since that time. Resistance 2 was my favorite because honestly it is the scariest one for me and the ending was dark for me as a child which stuck with me in a good (inspirational) way. Still miss hale and malikov though…

Playstation 3 owners that didn't play this game really missed out on one of the best shooters for the system. The graphics still hold up pretty well even till this day and the gameplay is great which makes it easy to play through the game multiple times.

There is something you forgot. The chimeran have begun to begin killing each other I'm unsure why they were but remember specifically certain types of chimera were becoming savage like with those savage zombie things. I think it's a degradation of their human half DNA or something

2011 was the golden year for me as a fan of shooters. Gears of War 3, Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3! So many good shooters i didnt even know Resistance had a 3rd entry 😅

2011 was so good and that's just shooters! That's not including the likes of Skyrim, Uncharted 3, Dark Souls I mean you could go on and on! My buddy was the exact same, I remember I think it was when the ps4 released he asked me if I thought we'd get Resistance 3 finally and I was like buddy, it's already been out 😂

This was my first ever game on ps3 didn’t know anything about the franchise and it was an absolute banger being 12 in my dark room getting jumped scares left and right

You pretty much nailed it on the head. Insomniac's games have always been beautiful flawed messes which is especially relevant with the Ratchet series. Resistance 1 was incredibly ambitious and was loaded with content but had awful game design and difficulty balancing even though that game is near to my heart and Resistance 2 was a copy and paste COD clone with a Resistance skin on it so it was the worst in the series and then 3 felt like they learned from everything and gave us the best game but the enemy variety was very small.

The ideas were all their from the start, it was just such a different series for them to tackle that it took a few tries to nail down some form of formula

Been playing through 3 again, always love coming back to this series, 3 basically improved everything, better story and grittier atmosphere, better combat, more weapons, and better graphics, but it sadly suffered from poor timing with its release and here we are hoping someone picks the series up and continues it or brings it back. I'd say Resistance 3 and Dead Space 3 are my all -time favourite shooters to revisit on ps3 (despite the negative feedback on DS3, its undoubtedly the best combat and graphics of all 3).

Idk if you've read the Resistance books, but I really think you should review them as well! Great reads!

I couldn't agree more, 2 feels a bit alien in the series because the first and third games mechanically are so alike. The removal of the weapon wheel really hurt that game

I think the thing that bothered me initially when I played it and now when I’m revisiting it via YT was the fact that his wife Susan told him to go on a suicide mission and then just changed her mind at the end when she heard his farewell message on the radio. This made her a rather unsympathetic character and also was quite silly. The decision was also made in seconds with her telling him “don’t make me choose” and then he just goes from not wanting to do it at all to accompanying the old man. What would have worked better in my opinion would be to introduce Malikov at the very beginning of the game and then have Joe want to go to destroy the wormhole and have Susan disagree. It’s hopeless anyway just die together as a family. But over the first few levels of the game Joe convinces her he has to do this for their child. I think this would just make a lot more sense. It also would have been much better if we were told exactly how Malikov was important to destroying the wormhole. It’s an interesting twist to have him die early and Joe actually launch a suicide mission that doesn’t work. In almost all other games of this type the lone protagonist (Master Chief for example) just single handedly annihilates entire armies. It’s refreshing to see this doesn’t happen here. But then the final decisive blow feels a little too contrived as Joe just looks at the terraforming tower and comes up with this wild idea. It would have been nice to have Malikov give him a hint from beyond the grave in a letter or page from his notebook that Joe finally understands as he is about to give up but then sees the terraforming tower. Overall I really liked the story but these tweaks would significantly improve it I think …

I know I’m a bit late to the game but great review.

On the note of multiplayer, I reccomend you look up a project called PSONE. They are a group that are aiming to bring a large number of old PlayStation multiplayer titles back online, currently, they have Fall of Man's multiplayer working. With plans for 2 & 3 down the line. Might be the opportunity to re-experience those multiplayer components again soon. (I used this project to play Transformers: Fall of Cybertron multiplayer directly from my PS3 even though servers went down in 2017)

Great video imagine a collection of 1 2 and 3 remastered on the PS5 with just touched up improved graphics and the online back (or even just the campaign's). I would buy it in w heartbeat its buy far the most requested remaster to me. If it sold well hopefully then they could get some new player's experiencing it and find a company willing to make resistance 4.

I've only now watched your resistance 3 review. At the time I looked forward to the look and mood of it going to release I've played it a number of times. You showing it now I still really like this game only Sony won't bring it out on the ps5. I am enjoying dead space remake.

This is why I love PS3 games so much. They are often so bleak, hopeless,gritty, raw, and on the nose about it.

The PS3 had so many great titles with fantastic atmospheres!

It's a shame that it's never really explained but, Capelli marries Hale's adopted sister. There are books that you should read. Resistance: The Gathering Storm and Resistance: A Hole in the Sky. One is told from Hale's perspective and is a prequel to 2 and the other is from Capelli's and a prequel to 3. Not bad reads but not sophisticated.

Resistance was always a difficult one for me. I played and completed Fall of Man in a few days and was left feeling quite underwhelmed, especially as I'd played a few great FPS games before it on the PS3 (I got it 3 years after launch). Resistance 2, I remember being a fun romp, but both games were very repetative feeling. Hopefully, some day I'll get around to playing 3, and experiencing the height of the series. This and Killzone were massive fps franchises for Sony, and it's a shame both have been forgotten since the PS3 (and PS4 for shadowfall)

I had an XBOX 360. I got a hold of a PS3 specifically for this series. I still play Resistance 3 on the online stream single person campaign with enemy super weapons activated and mirror mode just to make it interesting.... The weapons are just first rate...

This game is like Titanfall. Too many big franchises took its buzz away. GoW’s is its killer

IMO I think the multiplayer in 3 was the weakest part of the game. It was such a downgrade from the first 2 games. Small battles, No custom lobbies, And it just had to much COD elements with unbalanced gameplay. And it only ran at 30 FPS which I hated

My memory must be jumbling up the series multi-player. I do still remember enjoying Resistance 3's multi-player offerings but I think my nostalgia jumbled up the the Resistance series multi-player into one experience

1:50 I belive it was simply a case of oversaturation of the IP, most IP's release 1 or 2 games per console generation while Resistance released 3 on the same console.

I love Resistance series too much becasue not only its amazing gameplays and improvements, but also meaningful and good storylines and setting. Insomniac Games given many wonderful surprise and decided the permanent end of Resistance series (No Resistance 4) to avoid any problems from some extented sequel of masterpiece games, such as Gear Of War, Halo. Insomniac Games still did the rightful decision and focued on other games, such as Ratchet & Clank. I hope to see Resistance remake versions in future.

Sony failed to promote R3 so that is why the sales were low.

Great video series. If I can say a few things about R3. I do agree with you that the gameplay reached sort of an equilibrium between having more of the refined and clean Call of Duty esc style of play from R2 (in my view R1 plays much more like Halo than COD) while reintroducing some of the elements for R1 that were excluded in R2, such as the weapon wheel. I remember this game fondly and enjoyed the campaign a lot…however by the last level, to me at least, it felt like a rehash of the final level on R1, just more forgettable in my opinion. Oddly enough it was like how in Halo 1 and Halo 3 they both end driving the Warthog. One last thing that I think was a huge downgrade in this game was the multiplayer. Like you I clocked dozens of hours playing R2’s online and I loved the 60 players skirmishes. It made you feel like you were in an actual battle. In addition I loved the online co-op Spectre Team mode where you had set classes and fought hordes of Chimera with a team. It reminded me of Spec Ops in MW2 and it really mixed things up. Unfortunately I did not like Multiplayer in R3 as they shrunk the amount of players down to 16… and they also totally ditched co-op mode. It just seemed to me at the time as a way to modernize the game whereas before Insomniac would take unique risks to diversify themselves with other shooters. Overall it’s hard for me to rank these games as I think they all did different things well in my opinion. R1 made me feel like I was playing a WW2 game vs aliens which was super cool. R2 made things more global and sci-fi esc and had way bigger set pieces and bosses. And R3, as you said did the best job at portraying the actual human “Resistance” it gets its name from. Ultimately it was an awesome franchise and, even though I haven’t played these games in years, it’s a shame they’re no longer being made. My friends used to make fun of me for saying Resistance was my favorite game franchise and I was deemed a Sony fanboy, but anyone who played these games knew they were awesome and unique.

Resistance 3 is one of my favourite games of all time with an amazing story and so many great levels and locations. For me Resistance 3 is even better than the half life games. This game and killzone 2 need to be re released on ps5 and Psvr2.

Resistance Sold Meagerly, Because the PlayStation Gamer base during the Ps3 era weren't really buying Shooters. The 360 was dominating the FPS market, while Ps3 owners were playing RPGs and JRPGs that's just an opinion though.

That's a good point the only counter I would have to that is Killzone 2 and Resistance Fall of Man are on the top 25 best selling PS3 games but one is a launch title and the other had such an enormous marketing push that I understand where you're coming from

Lately I’ve been going back playing classic games….I just beat GTA Vice city… I can’t wait to replay and beat Resistance 1 and then the rest of series as a whole. So would you recommend I skip 2 and play 3 right away or should I power through 2 and then play 3? I’d just genuinely like to know cuz it sounds like resistance 2 is the worst of the series. Also I wonder have you ever played Splatterhouse 2011? It’s such an under-appreciated classic.

I think on the whole you can't go wrong playing the Resistance series right through and whilst I have my issues with Resistance 2, it's still a good time on the whole. I played the hell out of Splatterhouse back in 2011, I have very fond memories playing it!

In a decade, this franchise will be in the same spot as dinocrisis. A franchise everyone loves and wants a new game but no company will ever do it. Its sad, this franchise (especially the first game) meant so much to me in 2006 when i was literally 11 years old, and followed me until i was an adult. I love all three of them, but i will never forgive the second game for abandoning that beautyfull documentary style, i mean compare the intel from the first game to the farty intel from the other games

Do Crysis after god of war since the remasters for 2 and 3 are releasing later this year

Playstation did not market there games enough. I didnt even know the ps3 was out until I randomly seennit for sale and bought it on the spot

My second favorite games ever a smidge behind Minecraft, but so fantastically amazing.

What went wrong was that insomniac killed the franchise with R2. I remember every of my FoM friends hating it. When Resistance 3 came out, I only bought to support insomniac; while not a bad game, it was a far cry from FOM.

Funnily enough, Resistance 4 was pitched by Insomniac to Sony around the time they where beginning development on Sunset Overdrive. it got turned down, of course. But not because of the poor sales of Resistence 3. But because Sony felt they had too many Post Apocalyptic games lined up for the system at the time (The Last of Us, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Mad Max, Dying Light, Metro Last Light. Dead Island to name a few that where in dev, or about to release at the time Resistance 4 was pitched) which basically means, Sony hasn't put the nail in the Resistance coffin just yet, they where not ready for a 4th instalment when it was pitched, but who's to say that if Insomniac pitched it again, they wouldn't be more interested in it now.

Just think about the potential the series could had. I would love to see a prequel based on russian invasion before the war started on the more powerfull PS4, or a horror game with a sole survivor in a country wiped out by the chimera. I love the lore and story of this series.

Oh Resistance is dripping with potential that is still so largely untapped. It needs to make another appearance in some form or another!

I’ve got a feeling if they didn’t kill off hale and they promoted the game a bit more it woulda done a lot better lol.. imagine a cyborg hale with some heat stacks, too bad insomniac decided to blow our beloved characters brains out

Agreed.... Resistance 3 is by far the best in the series and one of the best fps period!

I only played 3 like four years after its initial release i never even realized it had come out. Either sony didnt do a very good job marketing it or i somehow just missed it. Good game probably my favorite campaign in the trilogy, didnt care for the multiplayer tho

The game was a lot of fun gameplay wise but the story and particularly the ending was seriously anti-climatic. So what they destroy one tower, then the Chimera are defeated across the globe? Just like that? Pretty unlikely especially with only 10% of humanity left but oh well it's still a fun game to shoot through.

Realistically I don't see any way for humanity to recover and fight back against the Chimera. By the time of Resistance 3 we've already lost and nothing can change that

@@MattyParker Well no but it's fiction and fiction doesn't have to be realistic but storylines do have to make sense beginning-middle-end. Resistance 3 might have been fun to play but the story didn't quite link up with the first 2 games so well.

@@MrDueltube you're dead on with that. Even when I played it as a 12 year old on release, I felt betrayed at such a crap ending that completely discards the first 2 games. It was the type of emotional dumb nonsensical movie stuff that would appeal to the imbeciles that value graphics over everything else. As a standalone, R3 might have worked but instead it ends up being one of the most horrible ways to bow out a series, thus making it overated AF to me. I'm guessing Insomniac just really wanted to kill the series immediately and move on to something else so they quickly scrapped together a story a chimp could have written instead of making a 4+ game epic that it was setting itself to be

Resistance 3 is easily among the best games of the 7th generation. I could imagine people getting put off by the lack of 8 player coop and the massive file size, but what's there is amazing

Best of the series, no doubt, and totally deserved a remaster for modern systems (the others as well, why not). I played the whole series, and from most to least favorite, the order is: - Resistance 3 - Resistance Fall of Man - Resistance Burning Skies - Resistance Retribution - Resistance 2 I still don't get the criticism over Burning Skies, as I found it really great to play, specially on a portable. The gameplay feels like the one on 3, with responsive controls, upgradable weapons on a wheel and not so spongy enemies, but the setting and environments are similar to the first game.

That's really interesting, personally from what I've played of Burning Skies I'd rank it dead last as it was the one game in the series I just could not get into in the slightest but to each their own.

What went wrong was the bad taste left in our mouths from Resistance 2, and the fact that you no longer play as an enhanced super soldier but instead play and the scronny version of the man who shot your beloved super soldier. I remember renting this game from Redbox and almost most beating it in 1 night, but decided not to buy it and finish it because it just didn't hit like the other two.

I think it sold so poorly because resistance 2 was regarded as a bit of a disappointment by some. Also ps3 did lag behind Xbox because of COD deal for awhile and gears…that said I’ve been having a blast with the resistance series

Honestly I didn't like this one as much. The guns mightve been the biggest issue for me, the upgrade system they came up with, while effective, made the guns less interesting to me. The story was kinda meh, capelli's family I didn't care for at all. And end of the day I didn't enjoy as much. I wish we got some more exposition on the chimera and what their motives were, but it was still a great time, especially since they brought the split screen co-op back for the storymode from fall of man. Also 🎵this was the brownest game I did see🎵

biggest mistake with resistance was being not available on PC

Why don't they just make Resistance four and have the game set during the chimeran invasion of Europe. Also maybe break it up in a way similar to battlefield one's campaign.

I don't understand why Sony resuses to make more FPS games. Shadowfall was the last. Killzone and Resistance deserve another chance

They did. It's called Fuse(if I remember right), and it bombed.

MY FIRST PLATNUM beat the whole game with my brother on the coach got it for free off the back of a truck

Honestly the ending of r2 the killing off the main character was a mistake and r3 suffered for it even tho it was a great game but felt like a spin off a side story to me. The lack of scale and enemies and joe himself and his story was a negative to me.

@@afraid7306 I am going revisit both the portable Resistance games hopefully in the near future, just had a few technical issues that made me put them to the side for now

Residence 3 was awesome! It’s criminal that the series is no more. Sony needs properties like this instead of the stupid Marcel garbage.

Despite what everyone else is saying I think the series should stay ended. It'd be cool to get more backstory on the Chimera but that comes at a cost of the way (most notably) modern games botch everything they touch.
