For me, one of the biggest things was the songs. When they added more music, it didn't have that same chill vibe. It's very adventurous and wondrous now

As an old timer, I just cannot stand the new Minecraft music, it deviates so drastically from the core soundtrack which is a big part that makes Minecraft feel so special. As a result of this distinction, I literally just turn off the music entirely.

The new music is necessarily awful. But it shouldn’t be in the game. C418 IS Minecraft’s composer. All of his music had a beautiful melancholic feel. It was peaceful, powerful, and now at times when all those old memories resurface almost tear-jerking. But this new music completely missed the mark. Pigstep is good but it’s not only overrated, it doesn’t belong in Minecraft.

I think an option for only c418 music only, old lighting like the scary darkness and slow stuttering sunset, and older looking textures for even new blocks all in the current version would make the experience feel better

For the music, you can turn off music and play the original soundtrack only by C418 playlist in the background. For the scary darkness, just turn the brightness all the way down and turn off smooth lighting. And for the texture pack, just activate the programmer art texture pack.

I'm starting to fricking hate all the structures and now in 1.21 they're yet again adding new massive underground structure. I know I could turn them off but then I'm feeling like I'm missing out on something, it's weird.

@@mikael8276 I don't like villagers. I wish they would remove them from the game but it'll never happen. There's way too many structures now too. Water temples are everywhere and there's another village over every damn hill. Shipwrecks are all over the place.

2:58 - These swamps in Beta 1.8 are unique as hell, they existed in this form ONLY on this version, after which Beta 1.9 changed its coloration and some aspects to what it is today. Oh and side note - Beta 1.8 was also the "dead zone" version: - All new structures which been added - either dead empty or/and very, VERY hard to find (strongholds existed, but there was no eye of enders to speak of) - Animals' spawn rates been SERIOUSLY decreased, and mixed with inability to breed them - you either had to count every piece of meat and wool, or rely on wheat only.

I use to make adventure maps. Now it's kind of a lost thing to tell a story. Usually it's just the builds.

So many adventure maps we're made for pre-Adventure Update game mechanics too. There were so really great ones that were so challenging and fun to explore.

Agreed... It's like I don't even need to mine or build anymore. Need a place to sleep? Go to a village. Need loot and gear? Raid the 20 nearby structures that are guaranteed to be there. Need ores? No need to mine like in the days of old, just look for a ravine, abandoned mineshaft, buy them, or loot some more structures. It's gone from a game where I build my world, to a game where I just jump from place to place nomadically in search of more loot, or to fight bosses. Don't get me wrong... I love Minecraft even in its current form, but it has gone from "Minecraft: the sandbox building & survival game" to "Minecraft: the sandbox adventure crafting game." Can I do everything in Modern Minecraft that I could before? Absolutely, and I can even do it even better than before. Do I feel a compelling desire to do it? Not one bit. Why build when the entire world is already prebuilt for you?

I've been playing the Better Than Adventure! mod and I've been having more fun playing and exploring in Minecraft than I have in years. It has a really good mix of the simplicity of Beta 1.7.3 and new features and little surprises to keep it fresh.

I played from summer 2012 to fall 2014. Those were the best days. I just got it on my Kindle Fire HD 10 a month ago and it feels so different now that it’s not even fun.

I started weeping in silence.. I’m turning 19 this year and this is most likely all I have left of my childhood, I came around to feel.. something. 😞

Im terms of the structures and blank canvas feel I think he's absolutely right. There's a somewhat simple solution to this though. Give us a rarity setting for certain structures when we create our worlds. That way we make everyone happy to an extent, without a massive compromise. We already have the option to stop the world from generating structures, now I'm no expert but I think an option that determines their rarity wouldnt be too much to ask for. Edit: Also I'm just really happy that we can simply revert to older versions of Minecraft from the launcher whenever we please. If that ever gets removed as a feature I'd be furious. There's a lot of games where I wish I could play their older versions but it's just not possible (like League of Legends for example).

We still had rarity settings in 1.12. From 1.13 onwards though, Mojang removed this in-game menu and told everyone "just use datapacks lol". I know this all too well because I always used to slightly bump up the ore generation.

I agree, Mojang should cut the generation chances down on all structures, make finding a ruined portal or village novel again

Finding structures should be a neat surprise and a mystery. Not practically guaranteed everywhere you go.

They killed the feeling of isolation and Discovery with the 1.14 update and the increased spawnrate for various structures that were meant to be rarer. 1.16 Added the broken nether portal, and it's so common it almost ruins inmersion as well. These changes to structure spawnrate have damaged the game's integrity. The new textures and mobs also have an effect on this regard, I've always seen the new textures as way too soft, the new music is often described as unfitting, and some new mobs, way too cute in design.

@@luis-sophus-8227 So many villagers the world of Minecraft is highly populated now. If I could change anything about modern Minecraft I'd remove villagers and villages in a heartbeat. Being a lone survivor in a mysterious and gnomish world was far more interesting.

I hate sprinting, mobs aren't as scary, you don't even need a bed to be safe (I hate beds too) you can literally cheese the whole game by running as long as you got enough food during the day

@@nazwus I don't hate beds myself but did you really just sit there and do nothing at night? When I played Minecraft before beds were added to the game I'd mine at night and stuff, not just sit around.

I started playing it like a week after Notch announced the 50% off account price of $15 for early supporters. I had seen a KZread video on the game and decided to try it. As far as how it felt? I remember making a snow biome game and having the feeling like I was IN the game and in my igloo and snow biome as if I was in the real world hidden in a snow world, not in a video game. It felt real, not like a video game. I felt like I was interacting with a real world somehow. It was alien, but not. I can't explain it. I can even remember the first structure I built in the first 5 minutes of playing and what it looked like. I remember a dirt wall topped with grass and making a dirt house to protect me from zombies. I've played it at least 2000hrs on PC and Playstation since then. Most of the time I used my social security number as my seed. I'd start on an island in a vast sea near a land mass with a forest and a house.

New players will never understand how amazing this game was!

I miss old minecraft. Thats why I made it my new years resolution to start a beta minecraft channel and upload consistently every other week. Check it out if you can. Thanks.

it's just because we were literally kids when this version was out, we feel nostalgia because we were discovering the game, playing with all the possibilities, all our friends were playing it and talking about it all the time, it was fresh. all of us have played this game for YEARS, i'd say i put well over a thousand hours of gameplay, we've seen a thousand videos about the game, it's just not as exciting anymore. older versions certainly "felt" better for us because of this, but i suppose new players nowadays find the game just as amazing as we did, i would say that they find it even MORE exciting to discover the countless things you can do. i don't think i miss the game minecraft was, i miss the feeling of playing it with my friends, installing mods, watching youtube skits, it was amazing, i will never forget how incredible this game is.

I've literally been exclusively playing versions from alpha all the way to release 1.6.4 exclusively and gotten all my friends who didn't play those older versions into them and I've not yet met a person who finds modern minecraft more enjoyable or inspiring to their spirits and imagination.

This is true to an extent though. While I was also a kid during Minecraft's Beta phase I wasn't even born when other old games were released and I quite honestly prefer some of them over the new "slop" we get sometimes. Ofc not all new games are bad and I'd say the majority of them are actually very good. Nonetheless, my childhood was the PS2/PS3 era. Sure maybe it's just nostalgia for some of those games but again I wasn't born when the PS1 released for instance. Yet I recently got into Silent Hill and I think the first game released in 1999 for the PS1 is amazing. I've been replaying some of the games from my childhood along with games I never got to experience (Silent Hill 2 and 3) and I can confidently say it's not just rose tinted glasses. I'm aware I'm talking about old games that are considered classics today and they were always good, these aren't hidden gems. However my point is that they are rightfully considered as great and it's not just blind nostalgia that makes people love them so much. I think it goes deeper than just missing our childhood. There's a certain charm to these games that seems to be missing from some newer titles. I'd be lying if I said this isn't at all connected with the fact that I was still born in time to use a VCR, to have a CRT tv etc. Hence I like these older consoles, yet this can't be all that there is to it. At least I don't believe so.

@@Wolvahulk definetly older games were better because they couldn't launch the game half assed and then fix it and add content later like all of the modern titles, they had to polish it to put it on the CDs or cartridges. just like early minecraft older games were much more focused on quality over quantity, but nowadays kids just like massive amounts of throwaway content and the standard for games is a 60 hour long boring open world

no I hate the beta 1.8 terrain generation, it's the worst, beta 1.7.3 and before was great, the old cliffs and weird mountains were so much fun to build with, it was so interesting, the beta 1.8-1.16 terrain is so boring, there's no interesting stuff, the hills are round and smooth and most of it is flat, good for building structures on flat terrain, but no interesting view or places to build interesting bases on the side of cliffs

I’ll never forget the first time I found village I was just walking around and I saw a house in the distance, I was like wtf when did I build this ?! It was the same when I found my first mine shaft

I agree to an extent. I think it has to do with when you started playing. I just started playing a couple years ago and I get all of these feelings now and my first game was 1.16. I still feel like it’s a major undertaking and adventure to go find just some sheep let alone a village. I’m also really bad still so there’s stakes in everything I do. It seems like I have all the feelings you used to have so maybe it’s just a matter of how long you’ve been playing.

Villages are extremely intrusive in the landscape now, maybe you just got lucky your seed conveys better how it used to be But yeah, at least the part regarding the skill curve is something that remains unaffected, glad you experience the game like we did

Same. I got into Minecraft in 1.13. By today’s standards, I am kind of a veteran player, but I feel like I just got into the game, and that I’m a newer player. I feel like I missed everything, and especially the old simplicity of the game.

I see a lot of comments talking about the nostalgia and how Minecraft just isn't the same but in my opinion that just isn't it. I started playing way after beta and I have no nostalgia whatsoever with it, I think old Minecraft Is better because it does one thing and it does it well, being a sandbox, you have a more limited block palette but you can do whatever with it, modern Minecraft has so many predefined concepts with all the structures that exist, it tries to be an adventure and sandbox game without fully developing either aspect and it ends up looking half-assed because of it

Why was a limited block palette a good thing in Minecraft? With a new, wider palette of blocks, you can do whatever you want. Modern Minecraft has not taken away players' creativity.

@@nazwus i can agree, it's defo a lot of fun to build using the new colors of wood and the many other blocks in modern minecraft, when i typed that i was going off the notion that limitation breeds creativity, since you have fewer tools you think of more to do with them. Not true for everyone though, it's clear that old minecraft is a really primitive game even if it's imo a better sandbox than modern minecraft, modern minecraft has so many more features for the slight change in how progression works and i think it's valid to play it any way you want

What's nice about modern Minecraft is that it's more up to the player what building restrictions they impose on themselves, which also gives us more variety in building styles.

​@@nazwusOld comment but to me it's because the skill floor and ceiling are both higher in modern Minecraft. You can make something REALLY good but you can also make something REALLY ugly. In beta Minecraft, the simplest houses look good

i may just be simple-minded, but i still find a lot to get excited about in current minecraft. i definitely understand the nostalgia for old minecraft and there's definitely something special and unique about the feeling it gives me! those old sound effects do something wonderful to my brain lol i'm glad it still exists for anyone who still wants to go back and play it, it's great to see game preservation and all. maybe it's because i don't play much singleplayer (singleplayer has always just felt a little too lonely for me to enjoy it, but maybe that's an appeal!), but i really like the feeling of carving a little space for me and my friends into a world and seeing it build up over time. finding really normal structures like villages and witch's huts and the like are still exciting! but it definitely helps to have good company [:

Minecrafts original simplicity was what made it lovely. The complexity was created by the players and the base game was completely accessible

@@guibeck8259 I never played old Minecraft as a child but I enjoy Beta 1.7.3 more than modern Minecraft. The terrain generation is just more interesting. The overall game feels more cohesive than later editions that have lots of random features thrown in. I don't like villagers intruding in my world or too many structures littering the landscape. I like that there's no hunger meter making demands on my time when I'm just trying to build. I like how it feels lonely and mysterious and worth exploring but it's also not too easy to explore because I can't just sprint through the night and easily evade every mob out there.

Nope nope and nope. You cant unsee the nether,caves and clifs, ... updates. Old version of minecraft is simple but hard. Yes hard because getting diamond and going to nether and end is a fricking hell hard

I miss the old days. Everytime I would get home from school on Fridays I would do my homework than play minecraft all day, sometimes with my sister. I would also play it all day Saturday and Sunday. I miss the good old days

I came back to mc after a couple years long break, played like an hour, got bored and quit, then i got curious abt beta, downloaded it, played a little and now it's the second week of me playing it and I can't get enough, i wana build so many things and explore the world as much as i ca . that's the motivation and excitement modern mc just doesnt give me, i thought mb im too old for this game or depressed but nope, it's really about the game itself. Playing beta makes me feel like the kid I was some 11 years ago (even tho my first mc was after the adventure update), i love how simple and focused it is, i love having just one type of stone and one type of wood, i love that me, a player, is alone in that world, i love not being bothered by wandering traders and pillagers, i love that there are no villages cause in modern mc they are so common that im sick of stumbling upon yet anoter, and, of course, i love beta's unique terrain gheneration compared to modern mc's realistic terrain that looks just boring to me.

The chance of mob spawning when you’re sleeping was called the nightmare system And it wasn’t unavoidable either. It happens when you sleep in a dark area. If you’re in a well lit house you’re fine. But if you sleep in the middle of nowhere? Good chance of having a “nightmare” Actually been playing b1.7.3 because some players sold me on it. Some arguments that the hunger system inherently broke many aspects of the game, changes to how armor worked, even objections to the whole concept of pre generated structures But I think what sells me is the simplicity of it. I’m not being overwhelmed with features, everything sorta fits and everything has a purpose. There’s nothing in the game that makes me go “why is that there? Why would I ever want that?”

I think 1.12 was the last update that feeld like Minecraft...

Yeah it was last version ,that feelt so rought,cozy and nostalgic. 1.13 feelt like wird mix of old and new stuff. And 1.14 was moment when they went fully in other directions. This is wird. I started to play on official luncher when 1.13 appeard ,but 1.12 still is more nostalgic to me.

I think part of it is when you first start you are like "woah this place is cool". As you grow older you are still exploring but there isnt as many new things. You are used to the get a tree, get iron, get diamonds, ender dragon, elytra.

When I find a village, I hope it has carrots and potatoes.

For me the newer updates focus more on the adventure's aspects of the game and they're so f**king underdeveloped if I want that why would I play Minecraft instead of a game like terraria

One thing that made old Minecraft versions good was the lack of objectives, look back at old MC worlds/versions/playthroughs, the worlds made were incredible the builds and video's the lack of things made for more creativity, the main core of Minecraft creativity, nowadays MC KZread videos consist of surviving 100 days or killing the ender dragon and when done they do it again over time compiling endless amounts of worlds use once and never again while idk Minecraft the hardest thing was surviving the first night then after that whatever you wanted, the builds were amazing

Builds are still great and even better than ever before. A group of KZreadrs posting cheap, repetitive content is not a good representation of Minecraft players. Take a look at, for example: Mogswamp, shovel241, Grian or Jeracraft. They are still most focused on building.

You can enable it in the launcher settings. There's an option to show historic versions of Minecraft in the launcher. Tick the box and you'll be able to access versions before 1.0.

I’ve actually been writing a yt script for why I want to tribute Minecraft, I include the music and how it affected my life, it gave me a voice and allowed my creativity, the music brings me back to a time when I was a kid, and that’s why it doesn’t affect me anymore, I’m grown up, I love Minecraft and thank you mojang for my childhood

I remember when I first started playing minecraft in 2019 on the playstation 3 the 1.13 update I do think that sometimes older minecraft updates did had more charm to it but sometimes I do miss the old minecraft update but I still play on playstation but it just now playstation 4 minecraft is on bedrock addition the only way I can go back to the old addition is by going to editions which the last update for minecraft ps4 addition is the 1.14 update

This also happens if you place your bed in the corner of your house. iirc it scans a 3x4 area around the bed, and checks for unlit places. When shoved into a corner, one of the blocks inside of this area might be outside.

Wait no, I remembered. Your bed also has to be sealed away from the outside world on top of that.

I have a feeling that Minecraft being not fun is dream's fault, this guy was speedruning the game and like we got the target what to do in this game, we should speedrun it and make another world and speedrun it and then we forgot what this game was about...

I think its just the way we play the game now i get satisfaction when i go into it with a goal but at the same time it could be also because of our age we have exams and studying to do so every time you play well me atleast you just feel guilty and worried like you should be studying instead you dont have all the time in the world anymore you cant just blast away a weekend on minecraft with friends

the modern game basically has burnt you out, by giving you too much dopamine for that task, and so the dopamine association isnt as potent because every single little task can give you dopamine in modern minecraft because theres so much density, it makes it so that it wants you to feel good about just existing you can feel good about running away from danger more easily with the sprint you find more structures with updates the structures are more dense with updates the color emotional aspect of it ends up making things feel bland because of the desaturation the desaturation is actually unrealistic (its based off of as if you had aged, and the color of grass could be percieved less over time, or they are trying to simulate the consequences of pollution, which is stupid for a video game) more of the game is set up to be done for you once you "beat the game" theres no more objective to acheive they are trying to replace the calm and player-centric soundtrack for a world-centric non-c418 soundtrack the performance has degraded significantly

I do agree, Old Minecraft in my opinion is better. But even then, Old Minecraft gets boring too. There's a great game called Outerwilds and I wont spoil anything about it. But, the first time you play it is the only time you'll ever be able to play it. (I really recommend playing it btw) That's pretty much what Minecraft is too, but much slower. The first time I played it, I had no idea what I was doing but I was having fun discovering, learning, watching and sharing my experience with others. Now, I know what the first step is, I know what the best ore is, I know what the best everything is. I know too much that I can't play it another way without feeling sluggish or wrong. 10 years ago, I would've been glued to my seat playing Minecraft for hours, but now, I can't even remember the last time I played the game, and if I did, I probably went to world select, looked at the screen for a minute and then quit the game.

I think the secret is in the hard light. The more realistic lighting in current versions doesn't match the game's "8bit-3d" artificiality. Minecraft needs to look somewhat fake to work aesthetically.

The game doesn’t even fell like Minecraft anymore And now it’s very easy to get bored. I am playing Xbox one and I am having the time of my life playing that game and I can play it without getting bored.

I feel like the new minecraft is better for the reason of more freedom if that makes any sense. I feel like you can do more in the game now and there’s more blocks and new stuff every year and yes the old Minecraft is very simple and nostalgic but Minecraft in my opinion the older it is the better it is

Honestly i dont want to explore anymore couse the new world generation just killed it. You can find beautiful lands in every corner before that you just traveled thousands of blocks to find the perfect spot you cant do that anymore. Its a good update but really brake it the immersion to me

Personally, I HATE that everything was scattered around. Having everything close to you is just more convenient. Spending hours to find a village, when you get there, you just are like "ugh, why did I send that long to go here?" Your feeling of 'excitement' is completely foreign to me. Now when you spend 5 minutes your like "OK cool, let me just look around and loot some food and stuff," your not excited, but it keeps you playing.

the problem with "just dont use x" "just play older version y" and "just stop updating past z" is that it ignores the entire reason WHY minecraft is dying spiritually minecraft is being held together not by its gameplay, but by the people who play together on it, and the children who dont have another option to play a good game, because even with adult games, most of them are SHIT and i mean Grade A Bona-fide Whole Grain Super Stinky S H I T they rehash old games, but with worse performance, less features, and DRM designed to dox you should you even so much as THINK you own a copy, and these companies, mojang included, are moving more and more towards being able to rip the game right out from under you you are not safe from people being complete dirtballs anymore, they just have to submit a plausible (but false) report and you can no longer play the game Period. and some of you wonder why people were so upset about the chat report system it doesnt protect anyone, because the people who use the system are the people who know they are in trouble, but ******the people its designed to protect****** dont know they are in trouble its a catch 22 meaning ALL reports are effectively false, or at best, misunderstandings

Completely not true, the game is good, and it's just the way we age that alters our enjoyment, little kids are loving the game, they're experiencing the same emotions we had when we were playing the game when we were their age. However, they'll only realize it once our age. This is how it works.

I feel like the updates tried to cater more towards people who did speed runs with the loot and frequencies of structures but also tried to appeal to persons who wanted more diversity in the game but ultimately made the game feel overbearing

THEY FORCE THE NEW FEATURES ON THE PLAYERS. There are videos that analyze the increased spawnrate of various structures and it's just ridiculous. Some of these (mostly villages, wreckships and broken nether portals) feel very intrusive in the inmersion
