One Captain decided not to remove it. Thank God because my Dad regained the use of his leg. He lived 83 years and never proclaimed his bravery. He went to war because he loved his country and it was his duty to defend America. The WWII vets were patriots not a bunch of lying creeps. Biden will say and do damn near Anything to draw pity from the public. His uncle did not even receive a purple heart. He was not on a combat mission. He was on a courier plane. Maga wants you to be aware of the vermin around us who are thieves, rapists, felons, and anarchists, but maga proposes you should vote for them anyway. You are welcome to prove me wrong. Weisselberg, Gates, Manafort, Cohen, Papadopoulos, Stone, Flynn, Nader, Broidy, Bannon, Navarro, Ellis, Giuliani, Powell, Chesebro, Meadows, Parnas, and Trump, were found guilty. Trump has convictions for charity fraud, university fraud, tax fraud, as a sexual predator, and for a porn star hush money payoff during an election. There are pending indictments for election fraud, fake electors, insurrection, and concealing classified documents, all held up by litigious delays. Trump has confessed to cheating on all three wives, wanting to ignore parts of the Constitution, re-posted a call for a unified Reich, wants to be a dictator for a day, asked oil companies for a billion dollars in return for less restrictions, and calls himself the chosen one with the same mouth that claims when you are a star they let you do it, referring to grabbing women. What a role model for our children. Under Biden the US economy currently leads the G7, has record GDP growth, record low unemployment, record stock market, record jobs growth, higher wages, stronger unions, lowering inflation, crime is down, NATO is stronger and Russia is weaker.

They should not be remembered badly because some fraud tells stories about them. Lt. Finnegan did, indeed, die a heroes death in service of our country. That is was not in combat does to change anything at all. If it did, then all of those that died when Indianapolis sank are, also, not heroes.. and that is just wrong. Bravo to you, Lt. My father, Maj. Frederick O. Blair flew 25 missions on "Old Baldy" as bombardier out of Port Moresby, New Guinea in late 1943. As incredibly tough as B-17s were, men who flew them were aware of how little it took to have engine issues or other problem on these, even during their height of service when they were kept reasonably fit for service. My dad ended up with dozens of full sized crew pictures out of Port Moresby. Had them bound into a book he tried selling at the Army Air Corps reunions in the 1980's and early 90's, with a bit of success. My dad had flak wounds and some metal in his right hand and arm until his passing in 1996. Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, 6 children. School teacher on Long Island for 22 years. Hero in every sense, to me, and to many of whom his life touched. Not overly religious in any demonstrable way, but deeply Christian in his charity to all he met, always giving what he had away, up to and including the day he died. When I think back to the spoiled, coddled children and young adults we were. The "crazy stuff" we got up to as teenagers? It would never hold a candle to flying in a B-17, right through anti-aircraft fire to try and get a bombing mission done. Learning how to skip bomb from low LOW altitudes. Love, sorrow, joy, deep respect - I lost my dad in 1996, 6 weeks before my son was born. I became a dad, as I lost mine. I remember palpable fear at the fact that the reigns were being handed over. To us. My generation isn't worth crap compared to the camaraderie, bravery faith and love these men gave their country. It's not about how many flags you can paint on your truck. Honor, glory, love and pride; I have it all for you dad in abundance, forever.

    Bush’s crewmen were not eaten by the Japanese. Bush successfully bailed out and was later rescued by a submarine. One of his crewmen also bailed out, but his chute didn’t open and he fell into the ocean. The third crewman went in with the plane, possibly already dead. However, other American airmen, shot down over that island and taken prisoner, were murdered and their livers eaten by some Japanese officers. See the book ‘Flyboys’ by James Bradley.

  • @enscroggs

    @enscroggs

    The TBM was notoriously dangerous for the crew in a bailout situation. The pilot had the best chance of the three crew members. The rear turret had a fairly wide escape hatch on the left side (the gunner's right) that could be released by the gunner. Unfortunately, the gunner needed to correctly execute his escape or risk getting hit by the tail empennage, which may have been the fate of the man who fell. Furthermore, the turret escape hatch was designed to work properly when the turret was pointed directly aft. If the turret was pointed to the side, the hatch could become jammed between the turret and the fuselage. The radio operator/bombardier used the small crew entry door on the lower right of the aircraft to bail out. He was in little danger of hitting the tail but needed to be careful to avoid snagging his gear on the doorframe. As a rule, Navy aircrew preferred ditching to bailing out. Grumman, an aviation company perhaps more closely associated with the USN than any other, incorporated flotation equipment into their designs which gave those Navy airmen a better chance of survival at sea than most others. If at all possible, TBM pilots were strongly encouraged to ditch. With full flaps, the Avenger could remain under control at just a smidge over 65 mph, which is about as good as it gets as far as water landings are concerned. (Ask Sully.)

    I grabbed "Flyboys" out of a small, cottage are library thinking it might be a good yarn like Baa Baa Black Sheep. Kind of a downer to see that Japanese officers had a cult of cannibalism to gain strength from their US enemies. They were hanged after the war.

    I grew up in the highlands of New Guinea in the late 1950's and early 1960's. When my family went there, outsiders had first arrived only a few years earlier. I would have been the first white kid a lot of the locals would have ever seen. From what I can make out, stories of cannibalism by the native New Guineans are wildly exaggerated. There are two peoples that are known to have regularly indulged in cannibalism. On is the Fore who ritualistically ate the brains of their dead relatives and the other is the Korowai who are known for eating enemies defeated in battle. However the latter one may be a myth used to promote tourism. Certainly there was no cannibalism where I grew up. There was no need for it. The place was really fertile, with lots of rain. There was never a shortage of food. The idea that the indigenous peoples of New Guinea were constantly ready to pounce on and consume any dead body they came across has no credibility at all.

    The cannibals were in New Guinea but it was under American control at that period in time. The natives liked the Americans because they were good to them and gave them lots of neat stuff. My father was on New Guinea during that time and had lots of interaction with the natives.

    A pilot N Biden flew with the SAAF Number 1 squadron in the western dessert in Ww2. I believe he survived the war but was later killed in the Korean War .A relative Major J Gaynor ( who is buried at Anzio ) flew in the same squadron .
