I feel that 8/10 is a pretty generous rating for a hotel where you can't get a good night's sleep and would not book again 😅
Awesome review, but a hot room is the bane of my life! Nice with the UV, next time bring Luminol as well :D

For me, £83 pounds isn't all that bad for a uk based capital city hotel stay. I have paid £92 for a leeds bradford travelodge for 1 night in august for the 3 of us, so £83 is a good price. Also, it would have been interesting to see the room without the upgrade you bagged. Like I said, 83 quid is a good price, and the room looked more than average for the price. Anyway, keep up the good work, it makes a change to view a vlog featuring a hotel and not a coach or airplane i usually enjoy viewing.
How lovely to see your son!
It looks perfectly fine and £82 sounds reasonable, but 22 degree bedroom sounds horrible. Why would they set the temperature so high? Only being able to control it in the day is just bizarre

My thoughts too. And it must be costing them a fortune to heat it to that temperature when most guests will not want it.
This hotel black light inspection - I hope doesn’t became a regular feature…🙃
Another good video ,an uv torch is just so ott though. Please don't go down that route.
I used to work across the road at the building opposite. Nice to see that building has a new lease of life.
I'm pleased you didn't shine the UV on the bedsheets 😂
Love the green chair, bit tough to fit it in your bag though.
Nice to see your Son with you. New to your channel and watching your videos in a chaotic order right now
7:23 a small black switch that lights up black to tell you it's on - hot black desiato would be proud.
The first 2 things I pack when travelling are good earplugs (I have some made to measure silicon jobs from motorcycling) and sanitising wipes. They don’t take up much space and can turn a crappy experience into a tolerable one.
Another good, well presented video, but I don't think £82 a night is good value. My wife and I have actually just returned (on Wednesday) from a 3-night break in Edinburgh. We also stayed in the Haymarket region, at the Premier Inn Hub Hotel. We got a great deal when we booked it, in October and got one of their larger rooms for £105.50 for the three nights. A bargain ! Continental all-you-can-eat breakfast cost us an extra £5 per person per day, which was was also a great deal. Perhaps you could review this hotel one day Regards from Whitley Bay

Good deal 👍we did St Mary Street Travelodge last Feb, 3 nights inc WiFi and pig out buffet breakfast , top floor slept like logs £180 3 nights. Easy walk to city centre, nearby public transport etc
The price doesn't surprise me, but WHY is it so difficult to adjust room temperature other than by using some ridiculous app? I think some hoteliers have forgotten hospitality and what is important to most ordinary travellers/guests.
I don't see why they make you scan a code, download an app to control the temp, when they provide an iPad? Why is the app not on there?
Carl Ziess Jena is a famous camera lens , I'm guessing that the town is were the Carl Zeiss factory is located
Haymarket not in Edinburgh? You can walk from there to the city centre in 15 minutes!

I think he meant central Edinburgh, but I’d also argue it is central Edinburgh (as I agree it’s a 15 min walk to the west end)
So many hotels are now sub-brands, Hilton is the worst. Hampton by Hilton is basically Premier Inn level, but people swank they're staying 'at the Hilton'.
I love the design of that room. It’s not too corporate or business like for me. I wouldn’t mind staying in a place like that. That app for the heating is silly though. Just put in some buttons. Great style of presentation by the way.
22˚ for a bedroom, yowsers! Mind you, we don't even heat any part of our house to that level, that counts as tropical!
I recently discovered your channel. This is the first video I've watched. That is the BEST surfshark sponsorship ad I have ever seen!! Thanks for the fun! Surfshark should be proud! If I traveled, I would sign up! ❤❤❤ Looking forward to the next one!
The hotel room certainly didnt look "spotless" when the UV light went on.
Lovely relationship you have with your son. Great video as always 👍
You what? 1:54 Haymarket is in Edinburgh.
A great video. The hot room though is a no no for me, i prefer my rooms cool so i probably wouldnt stay there for that reason
As always a great review. Time and again I love your dry humour. Had to laugh so hard about your German top game mention between Energie Cottbus and Carl Zeiss Jena. Hilarious. Kind of like a match between Tranmere and Shrewsbury. Or should I say Queen of the South and Berwick. I live in Germany BTW.
Nice to see your son accompany you on this video 📹
Seems like a decent hotel to me. It would not be my first choice but only because of the £83, I would prefer a cheaper place.
I had to laugh when you mentioned the price of room in Edinburgh. I just completed a cross U.S. winter road trip, and I stayed exclusively at Marriott BonVoy hotels Fairfield Inns and Suites. Five nights, and three of the hotels were horrible. In the Nashville Fairfield at Vanderb 12:54 ilt University, I was covered in insect bites when I woke up the next morning. I reported this, but received no satisfaction. In Texarkana, TX, the hotel was filthy, the caulking in the bathroom looked like the work of a young child. In Odessa, TX the elevator was out of order, so I had to carry our luggage to the 3rd floor because the other floors were unavailable. I was told the elevator had been out of order for days, with no repair completion date available. I am elderly, but that did not matter to the employees, no assistance was offered. Every hotel I stayed in cost me a lot more than 82 pounds. Corporate Marriott offered me points, they couldn’t care less.
Haymarket is definitely in Edinburgh

Pretty good review there! I've only stayed at the easyHotel in Prince's Street as far as hotels of Edinburgh go, that'll change in March! I'm interested to see what you make of some of the other hotels in Edinburgh!
I recently spent a couple of nights in Edinburgh staying at "The White Lady" in Corstorphine. Steve Marsh did a favourable review and I thought it was good value for money. I paid £63 a night for a double room to myself.
The entrance lobby feels more like a comfort inn than a four points… maybe bad brand choice?
Brilliant Vlog Scott as always it was a shame you didn’t sleep too good I’m a light sleeper too so maybe i won’t be staying there with the temperature high and I need of a open window it’s a no no for me until your next Vlog Scott keep up the good work take care and stay safe

He popped up a few weeks ago. He was asked if he would stay there again and said yes. But he didn't pay, so not really a fair question :)
nice area to stay, my wife and I stayed at the Moxy Fountainbridge not far from there
I've had a similar experience in a Maldron hotel (looks to be about the same market segment?) - the heating/aircon turned itself off every 2 hours. Set it comfortably so you can sleep? Wake up 2 hours later either too hot or too cold. Asked at the front desk but apparently they had no control. Seems like a massive oversight as I too slept very badly, no matter how nice the rest of the experience was.
I cannot stand a warm bedroom, 15C is the optimum for me. Too many hotel bedrooms are too hot
In Edinburgh I prefer staying at the old University Residence which is a hotel now. It is at the back of the Castle and you get great views of the Castle at night.
Nice review! Was Blair suitably impressed with your vlogging skills (or did he go, ‘Yeh, wot evah, dad’)? 🤔👍
The Simon Wilson style lift button clicking was a nice touch
£82 for a hotel in Edinburgh sounds pretty good to me. You’d be lucky to get a Hub by Premier Inn for that and having stayed in the Edinburgh one a few years ago, I’d take the hot Four Points hotel every time.

Funnily enough, my wife and I have just returned from a 3-night break in the Haymarket Premier Inn Hub hotel and got a cracking deal when we booked it in Octoiber ... £105.50 for the 3 nights in one of their larger rooms.
If one is a light sleeper, simple solution is bring your own noise reduction earplugs, also helpful in flights. Rate is fine. I''ve stayed in posh hotels and not so high-end but enough for me is a room where my things are safe when i go out, clean sheets & beddings, and good, safe location.
@andymerrett

the only issue is some people don't get on with earplugs. For me, they make my head feel "full" and so I only use them as a last resort. If I was the only one in the room (or the other people didn't mind) I might put on some white/pink/background noise to help reduce the effect of the unwanted noise.
A rotten night's sleep and no control over room temperature = a big No from me.
nice to meet you Blair I agree you'd not mind staying there again - as long as your dad is paying haha
I was told the dirtiest thing in a hotel room was the TV remote control. I use to sanitise one if it was in my room.

You are quite correct. In hotels I worked in as Manager until a few years ago, all the touch surfaces in each room, TV Remote, Door and drawer handles, Kettle handle and other touch points were sanitised each day. Overnight, corridor door push and pull handles, bannister rails, and where applicable, lift control and call buttons were thoroughly cleaned too.
7:06 think that's a minifridge tae keep that irn bru 😉 cool
I think another good chain which is slowly expanding in scotland, worth reviewing is the sandman signature hotel(s)
Even Premier Inn have proper aircon even if sometimes just their Premier Rooms. Price is ok for the city but looks to be far better out there.
Why is the temperature control not on the tablet? Or in the wall.?
Viewers of The Expanse know what those blue phosphorescent dots are. Beltalowda! :)
Ridiculous temperature control
I think for £82 you got a bargain. I will say however, that 8/10 seems really generous considering that you got hardly any sleep and the idea of any reasonable hotel is to give you a good nights sleep.
Perhaps prices have changed since I lived in the UK in 2018/2019 but £80/night is quite dear! I recall booking Premier Inns at Heathrow and Manchester in the £30 range that seem every bit as good as the hotel reviewed
Thanks

Hi and thank you for your support. It is greatly appreciated.
Same thing as being abroad, West Central Scotlander in Edinburgh.
As a woman "of a certain age", overheated rooms are a huge negative for me. We don't rent a car on our holidays, so walkability and access to public transit is key. We're definitely happiest in AirBNBs and have found some excellent ones in Edinburgh (old and new towns) that we hope to rent again in the future, although we've heard there are some rental licensing changes happening so we'll see. Interesting review although I was scared what your light would reveal...could increase the sleepless night factor! LOL
You should try Mollies, the have hotels in Oxford and Bristol. Everything is controlled on their App.

They have an hotel in Oxfordshire but it's 14 miles from Oxford along the A420 so a car would be essential and don't expect to get in or out of Oxford quickly during commuting hours. Likewise the Bristol one is actually 12 miles from the city centre along the M5.

How did you rate your breakfast in Jollibee? The fact you couldn't regulate the room temp at night would put me off going there. Love your down to earth video's 👍👍
I am from the US so may be biased, but I have never stayed at a hotel without a thermostat in the room.
If I ran a hotel chain I would have the name of all travel you tubers log on the computer to throw up an alert when they book so everything was 100%. PS watching while eating a Ping meal (ready), only got it because it was yellow ticket. Would I buy it again at full price, Probably Not.

It all depends on what type of Property Management System the hotel operates; as there are different types. Some systems will have a Guest History option built in, so that repeat guests preferences can be stored, (say best room to allocate, if they have allergy to feather pillows, likes certain brand of coffee or tea on the tray in the room! The list is endless. However, the more options built into the system, the more its operating costs increase and for some hotels, that optional facility may be kept out to save annual costs.
4 Points is not a 4-star hotel. Its just a regular hotel for an overnight stay. No one is staying there for a long term stay
for two in a capital city not a bad price and it did look clean but no shower gel
Seems that easy to fix things are bringing that hotel down. Really surprised they aren’t looking at the reviews and solving problems
Off topic, but I have to ask: Have you ever planed to visit the black forest in germany? There are a lot of interesting destinations like the city with the biggest market place in Germany or the Restaurant "Traube Tonbach" ( it was rated as the best Restaurant worldwide for the year 2023) And a lot of more interesting destinations and activities. Your videos are really interesting and it would also be amazing to see, if a foreigner like you would visit this region. Btw I am inhabitan of the city with the biggest marketplace. What’s you opinion on Scotland staying in the uk just interested. Nice video.
Spot on. MBAs are too good to spend their lives battling for market share points. The only fun they have is launching new things. That’s why we have a million yogurt flavors. 4 Points was the Sheraton pre merger answer to Marriott’s Courtyard brand.
So all you have to do to adjust the temperature in the room is go to a URL and tap the screen? Can't think of any fun I could have with that, nothing at all...
Good video.
blair is a young lad of little words - maybe take him along to some of your out of the ordinary travels. that room would be too hot for me , first thing i do when i get to any hotel is turn down the a/c or turn it off. central controlled a/c is bane of my life thjey turn it on in the middle of the night even if i have turned it off. i imagine they expect there to be only one person in the room so one chair but with two someone has to sit on the bed. just me but i am not keen on dark fixtures and fittings in a room.
Interested vid. I cannot understand why you can only set the temp in the day. Seems pointless

Haha I love the dad and son relationship. I'm just trying to imagine my dad having a KZread channel and filming the whole time. xD I rather like the look of the room. I mostly stayed in cheaper hotels during my life, so the wood finishing would only be a thing in older room (that were mostly in a poor state). Newer hotels that I stay in use very cheap and terrible materials. It is a bit odd that there is a Bible bin western hotel rooms, but I can see the point. Putting a Mormon Bible in a non-American hotel room is completely baffling. Who is ever going to read that? The end of the advertisement was hilarious. :D
I tuned in halfway through the video and saw a robber in your room. I simultaneously reached for my weapon and called the police. But then quickly realized it was you and put weapon away and cancelled call.
