    For me, £83 pounds isn't all that bad for a uk based capital city hotel stay. I have paid £92 for a leeds bradford travelodge for 1 night in august for the 3 of us, so £83 is a good price. Also, it would have been interesting to see the room without the upgrade you bagged. Like I said, 83 quid is a good price, and the room looked more than average for the price. Anyway, keep up the good work, it makes a change to view a vlog featuring a hotel and not a coach or airplane i usually enjoy viewing.

    The first 2 things I pack when travelling are good earplugs (I have some made to measure silicon jobs from motorcycling) and sanitising wipes. They don’t take up much space and can turn a crappy experience into a tolerable one.

    Another good, well presented video, but I don't think £82 a night is good value. My wife and I have actually just returned (on Wednesday) from a 3-night break in Edinburgh. We also stayed in the Haymarket region, at the Premier Inn Hub Hotel. We got a great deal when we booked it, in October and got one of their larger rooms for £105.50 for the three nights. A bargain ! Continental all-you-can-eat breakfast cost us an extra £5 per person per day, which was was also a great deal. Perhaps you could review this hotel one day Regards from Whitley Bay

    I had to laugh when you mentioned the price of room in Edinburgh. I just completed a cross U.S. winter road trip, and I stayed exclusively at Marriott BonVoy hotels Fairfield Inns and Suites. Five nights, and three of the hotels were horrible. In the Nashville Fairfield at Vanderb 12:54 ilt University, I was covered in insect bites when I woke up the next morning. I reported this, but received no satisfaction. In Texarkana, TX, the hotel was filthy, the caulking in the bathroom looked like the work of a young child. In Odessa, TX the elevator was out of order, so I had to carry our luggage to the 3rd floor because the other floors were unavailable. I was told the elevator had been out of order for days, with no repair completion date available. I am elderly, but that did not matter to the employees, no assistance was offered. Every hotel I stayed in cost me a lot more than 82 pounds. Corporate Marriott offered me points, they couldn’t care less.

    I've had a similar experience in a Maldron hotel (looks to be about the same market segment?) - the heating/aircon turned itself off every 2 hours. Set it comfortably so you can sleep? Wake up 2 hours later either too hot or too cold. Asked at the front desk but apparently they had no control. Seems like a massive oversight as I too slept very badly, no matter how nice the rest of the experience was.

    If one is a light sleeper, simple solution is bring your own noise reduction earplugs, also helpful in flights. Rate is fine. I''ve stayed in posh hotels and not so high-end but enough for me is a room where my things are safe when i go out, clean sheets & beddings, and good, safe location.

  • @andymerrett

    @andymerrett

    the only issue is some people don't get on with earplugs. For me, they make my head feel "full" and so I only use them as a last resort. If I was the only one in the room (or the other people didn't mind) I might put on some white/pink/background noise to help reduce the effect of the unwanted noise.

In hotels I worked in as Manager until a few years ago, all the touch surfaces in each room, TV Remote, Door and drawer handles, Kettle handle and other touch points were sanitised each day. Overnight, corridor door push and pull handles, bannister rails, and where applicable, lift control and call buttons were thoroughly cleaned too.

    As a woman "of a certain age", overheated rooms are a huge negative for me. We don't rent a car on our holidays, so walkability and access to public transit is key. We're definitely happiest in AirBNBs and have found some excellent ones in Edinburgh (old and new towns) that we hope to rent again in the future, although we've heard there are some rental licensing changes happening so we'll see. Interesting review although I was scared what your light would reveal...could increase the sleepless night factor! LOL

    It all depends on what type of Property Management System the hotel operates; as there are different types. Some systems will have a Guest History option built in, so that repeat guests preferences can be stored, (say best room to allocate, if they have allergy to feather pillows, likes certain brand of coffee or tea on the tray in the room! The list is endless. However, the more options built into the system, the more its operating costs increase and for some hotels, that optional facility may be kept out to save annual costs.

    Scott do you need glasses? Everytime you have a button to push whether it is a lift or train door you have four or five attempts.

    For me, the inability to control the temperature of the room OVERNIGHT makes this hotel an absolute no-no. Thanks for the advice.

    @@alangordon3283 I did watch the video right to the end before I wrote the comment. Like many others, I have difficulties sleeping in a warm hotel room, and 22C is definitely too warm. 20 C (=68F) is about my limit.

    @@alangordon3283 Why should they? Said that it didn't work between 10pm and 6am which is when most people expect to be sleeping. The hotel is also wasting a lot of money never mind the environmental impact as they overheat the room and then people have the windows open! 8:47 It's even on the screen. Perhaps you should pay more attention.

    Haha I love the dad and son relationship. I'm just trying to imagine my dad having a KZread channel and filming the whole time. xD I rather like the look of the room. I mostly stayed in cheaper hotels during my life, so the wood finishing would only be a thing in older room (that were mostly in a poor state). Newer hotels that I stay in use very cheap and terrible materials. It is a bit odd that there is a Bible bin western hotel rooms, but I can see the point. Putting a Mormon Bible in a non-American hotel room is completely baffling. Who is ever going to read that? The end of the advertisement was hilarious. :D

    I tuned in halfway through the video and saw a robber in your room. I simultaneously reached for my weapon and called the police. But then quickly realized it was you and put weapon away and cancelled call.
