ahh Lira!! So much snow and it's been so beautiful though its almost all gone now. oo and it was a stranger's window - hopefully they didn't mind!

i'm fascinated by your lives and experiences, your personalities and charm. the exploration. the simplicity. the beauty. but i sincerely wish to know how it is you can afford to live this way. did you guys go to university? what kind of work do you do? i want a life for myself as you both have created, but it seems impossible due to my limited financial situation. i'd truly appreciate a response.

i'm so happy you enjoy our content so deeply :) Lou and I did both go to university back in the states and moved to NYC after we graduated and both worked there for two years ( I was working for a tech start up and lou at a production company) and then we moved to Berlin to pursue our creative passions with Plant Based Traveler. Luckily for us, lou's family has an apartment here and allow us to live here which we are forever grateful for. Lou also does a lot of freelance video work and I worked at a cafe and as a babysitter. We focus on living with as little money as possible too (did a whole series on living on less if you want to check it out!) so that we can focus as much of our energy on our creative expression. OO this was so sweet to read :) Thank you for the kind words! It really has been such a whirlwind lately for us. As for the polar bear swim it happened in my town in Connecticut where I grew up. Every Jan 1 people come together to run into the freezing water to start the year off with a bang!

hey we actually reached out directly to him ages ago to ask permission, but one time we used a song of his and had issues with copyright infringement and he had to clear it up with his people. I'd just send him an email and see if he's down :) We spend a lot of time on soundcloud finding small artists and then send them an email asking if we can use their songs in our videos and are always surprised by how open people are with their music! definitely worth the time :)

I love the concept of your channel! :) It's the only one I actually follow. It'd be so cool if you made another video about film photography.

Hey guys! Just recently discovered you thanks to my brother in law. And your creativity is insanely awesome, along side with your story telling. But what captures me the most is the quality of your sound. It's so good, almost like you record every little sound separately. May I know what you use to record your sound?

So happy your brother-in-law put you on to our channel!! So fun to hear how people come across our videos :) For this video we just used the camera mic on the 5D3 because the shotgun is a little much to bring out and about but usually we shoot with a Sennheiser MKE 600 which has been very reliable so far--but we also add a lot of audio into our videos from field recordings so city sounds and stuff like birds chirping and wind may have been added in the edit as well. We have a friend in NYC who is an audio engineer/musician and he gave us his entire field recorded audio library (500GB) so that's been super nice! Hope that helps!

Plant Based Traveler no wonder the sound quality is so good. It's like a short film. And trust me I know how much work that can be. So kudos to you for such an excellent job. And thanks for the insight!

would love to learn edit like that!!! Just wondering what kind of editing software does lou use? and also what kind of camera do you guys use to shoot your videos and of course keep up the good work!!!!

Hey Munkhmanlai! All our camera info is in the description but as for our workflow, it is a bit complicated: We shoot all our video on is a Canon 5D3 with a Canon f4 24-105mm lens or our Leica Summicron f2 35mm lens. We shoot RAW files using magic lantern raw hack, then those files get converted to Cinema DNG sequences using the RAWMagic converter (25 dollars in the app store) then they get imported into Davinci Resolve Lite (free online) and then we color grade them by making them flat and then apply Hunter's Alexa LUT, then they get exported as DNxHD files in the highest possible quality level and then we edit those in Avid MC where they are the preferred compressed video format. Once the edit is done and the video is on KZread Lou deletes the Cinema DNG sequences and the RAW files because we can't afford the amount of hard drive space keeping both those would entail--it's usually about 800GB per video, but once that's all deleted the DNxHD files are actually pretty small so its always less than 100GB per video, sometimes only like 20-30. Hope that helps!
