I am a little shocked that you don’t know that “straight-man” can define other things than just one’s gender preference. I was referring to the straight man in a comedy act. Urara Valac is the straight-man of his family. And otherwise chaotic and nonsense fun loving family and him is the “black sheep” of the family by being stoic calm and collected as opposed to their zany characteristics. There is actually a really heartwarming element laced in here. He's clearly the "black sheep" of the family but that status means nothing to the rest of the family. They still love and cherish him nonetheless, seeing him as one of their own, and don't look down upon him because he's different. It proves that being different isn't a bad thing. While he's very much the "straight man" (and maybe his father, too, though we have yet to see Daddy Valac) in a family of cloud cuckoo landers, it's clear they love him regardless of his "status" as the odd one out. A lot of families and groups could learn a thing or two from that.

But the thing is, people keep forgetting that clara at the start of the series was finding friends anyone really even if she is being used and pretty used to being just a throwaway, meaning the valacs really are good natured demons but since they are chaotic and shet it's hard for anyone decent to keep up or put up with them

I seem to recall during the Battler festival when Clara’s family came and did that “the whole Valac family is here” pose that one of them was holding a picture of him or the dad so he definitely existed before this, I guess he was just off at boarding school or something. And keep in mind this is during their vacation so he likely came home for that as well

Well considering that Kalego probably used to think that the Valac family is a chaotic bunch, only to meet a child of said bloodline that's calm and well mannered likely threw him off.

This anime was like a fever dream through and through, lmao. Totally dynamic and spontaneous all around.

Oh I agree but I think the best part of this anime is that it feels spontaneous but it occasionally reminds you it isn’t random at all. The jokes often directly tie into character/interpersonal development and they have genuine, well planned, foreshadowing. My favorite is a character who gets introduced at the beginning of the series who’s intentionally written in a way we’re supposed to forget about him only to then re-reveal him to us 3 seasons/200 chapters later.

Genetic resistance, now thats some dexter's lab word right there.

One of the time kalego accidentally made us laugh even though he's the one who feels uncomfortable😣😔😢

He didn't ask if he was "adopted", he wanted to know if he was ABDUCTED! And the mother answered so calm, like she was used to that kind of questions... I love this!

I’d say there’s a bunch of “jokey”-people in the bloodline but for the ultimate comedic balance, a straightman needs to be born every once in a while to counter this family’s absolute chaos.

I have started to wonder if the Valac's naturally produce fraternal twins. In this scene he is labeled as the eldest boy and he calls Clara his oldest sister, though they look about the same age (perhaps she was the first born?). There are then two boys around 7 and a very young boy and girl. It may also be far-fetched to assume but the more hyper dreamers of the family live in isolation where they won't be judged or taken advantage of, yet the one 'normal' member of the family has clearly decided to go to a boarding school in the 'real world'. Makes me wonder if the mother has a twin knocking around, perhaps a serious one that has decided to go out and establish her/himself.

I wouldn't go so far as to call Urala a case of genetic resistance so much as a case of "tidy, well-mannered, respectful, hard-working" genes being recessive but present in him. Everyone else has the recessive gene but only one copy, so they're still chaos incarnate.

Urala and Clara as the oldest siblings seem really funny, as he has zero influence on his younger ones, who are like smaller Clara.

This just reinforces the theory that Clara's father was the previous Demon King, or at the very least the previous human to attempt to replace him. The eldest son is the spitting character personality model of Iruma, almost as if he has followed directly in his father's footsteps. The rest are more like the mother which suggest they have not been raised anywhere but in the Demon Realm. This then suggests that if human then Valac Snr is both powerful enough to survive to father enough children with their mother and travel between DR and human world. He may very well be the demon who brokered the deal with Sullivan and Iruma's parents.

Well lemme tell you something, firstly the last demon king was delkira and valac father can't be older than him so demon king possibility is zero. Secondly the valac are actually angles in mythology, kinda like fallen angels, it's being anticipated that we are yet to see Clara's wing and they are white like angel. @@AnimeSolace well im simply basing on the fact that the demon realm operates outside of time so "the throne being empty for a thousand years" is that demon time or human time? Secondly i sincerely doubt any kind of fallen angels would be accepted in demon society, and the majority seem to treat the Valacs with some kind of wary indifference. Not to mention Clara being so powerful on her own merit. It would also be understandable as to why Clara is so obsessed with the "cheating husband" idea. If he is constantly leaving to go back to the human world and taking the eldest Valac with him, itd be easier to pass it off as cheating, and greater demon society taking it more in stride. Id imagine relationships are complicated AF between demons so the enduring loyal ones are a rarity.

@@iamweird3919 no, but the fact that it continues to be the only personality trait to pop up in the valac family says something about them. You either a chaotic good demon or a lawful good demon. Heck, they grow up pretty chill anyways seeing how the mom ain't so wacky.

I like to imagine, that due to the whole bloodline family being the strange chaos that they are, these odd ones who are born into the family are the main reason the family is even surviving properly. Because they are smart and sane enough to keep the bloodline on the right track xd Otherwise the family seem like they would easily end up as a controlled household for some strong family who want to use their ability for their own needs.

At least we know Clara will have no problem in charm department when she grew up. Good genetics, i say. Amelia will have good rival sooner or later

i had recently started watching this series (dubbed), I absolutely cried when Kalego asked that out of the blue

The scariest part is that the valac clan, a majority, are like Clara and the other Valacs....so much unholy screaming and yelling from the valac crew...followed by pitiful whimpers of black sheep like Urala

thats because it is. the official explanation is that its a genetic defect. and once in a blue moon a valac will be born with a more inverse personality where instead of being overly energetic and relatively stupid, a "defect" will be smart, calm, and collected. the trait is evident because their pupil eye colors are reversed.
