Fenton or McGuigan should be player of the year. And come, Cluxton is the GOAT. Even Clifford wont have the impact on the game that Cluxton has had.

It has be Cluxton for player of the year. He dominates Kerry nightmares in a way Clifford doesn't do to Dublin. Darragh O'Sé went mad in his column that Cluxton was allowed to saunter up to take the first free without being struck by a Kerry player. And Kerry's bench were going mad at his sauntering too 😂

There is a tendency these days to anoint whoever is the current top man as the greatest ever when in reality he's just the latest name to be added to the conversation. Clifford is a good example. He has done plenty already, he IS great and he will probably do a lot more, but where are Mick O'Connell and Jack O'Shea in this conversation ? And Maurice Fitzgerald ? Remember him ? And that's just Kerry. And who's the greatest soccer player ? Yes, Messi is right in the conversation, but so are Pele and Maradona, and I can stretch it to Cruyff, and someone who's older than me might want to talk about Di Stefano and Tom Finney. Remember also that the games themselves change. Gaelic football and soccer, just to stick with those two for example, are different games now to what they were 40 years ago. The keeper can't handle a back pass now in soccer, nor can you break people in two any more. Messi is the greatest ever in a game that's only existed for about 30 years.

Nicely argued. I'm convinced. But remember these videos are about creating controversies from absolutely nothin to keep people clicking. If you keep propagandising about Clifford being the "greatest ever" you get 100 times more clicks for every video. And when he finally trips up.... you get to make even more hyperbolic videos... harvesting even more clicks (this time triggering Kerry folk and blowing smoke up Dublin). No one can ever say anything balanced about anything anymore... or it will be lost in the algorithm. We all know the real story: Mick Fitz had a pretty great game. Clifford had a bad game. And beyond Clifford, Dublin had the stronger team. Its hardly complicated and it hardly requires a week-long 3-man tribunal.

That always happens that's why I always laugh at the best team ever or best player ever from any sport because you'll find the here and now always has an advantage.. That said if Clifford keeps going he will have a shout for that accolade. Think Sunday he was guilty of trying to do too much and his composure went rather than being smoked as Flynn said If he was smoked he wouldn't have had the number of great opportunities that he fluffed

Clifford showed his True "Quality" (or lack thereof) on Sunday. Yet when did "Quality" EVER have anything to do with POTY? The POTY is decided by the GAA pundits LONG before the Season begins and the only way their PET won't get it is if the spend the Season in Hospital....

I was in two pubs in Cork last Sunday, and the number of people shouting for Kerry was sickening. That said, they're not Cork football supporters either as there are about 300 of us! No wonder we haven't beaten the feckers in Killarney since '95.

I’d argue Diarmuid Connolly has a greater claim to being the GOAT. He was as Technically gifted if not more so than David Clifford and has the Celtic Crosses to back up the claim. Also Countless number of Big Games where he made the difference. Semis 13’ 16’. Finals 11’ 16’ , 17’ replay. His battles with Lee Keegan will go down in folklore. Never went missing when the going got tough. #Showusyourmedals

At best these are podcasts, it’s not real sports journalism. It’s the type of bitter chatter you see on most GAA blogs or down the local pub. Riddled with bias while claiming to be analyzing sport. It’s useful for its comedic and often delusional nature. Clifford is a wonderful talent and he will come again. An assessment of his career is best achieved further down the line as he matures as a player and leader which he will. A tremendous sporting year for him in very difficult personal circumstances as with his brother who all round had a bigger impact on Sunday. It’s the so called journos that build him up as some messiah. Why? Deflection from other realities maybe? The Dubs won the tactical battle on Sunday along with the physical stakes. Two tremendous teams with one edging it. As for this generational Dublin team history will do the talking; 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2023 champions, with 2023 being harder than any. All achieved in an extremely competitive environment. Three players with 9 medals and many more with 7 or 8. Think how difficult it has been for other teams to do back to back. These men are giants of the game and time and reflection will show that.

It's been a tough week, and eventually I've been able to watch some of the game back. 😢 Mick Fitzsimons has to take some credit for how hard he made D. Clifford work. But in reality, if you look at these "highlights" of D. Clifford misses. FitsSimons isn't even close enough to Clifford to block any of his shots (maybe close for one) and actually gets the run-around by Clifford many times. David didn't have his shooting boots on on the day, and he would have usually put over 80% of those misses - Even when being marked by the best. kzread.info/dash/bejne/X2qIrrZsc5Ormrg.html It was the team that made less mistakes that won, and Kerry handed it to Dublin, with some unforced errors. Amazing achievement by the Dublin players, again, especially those with 9. 👏 Sam will be in The Kingdom next year.

Clifford along way off GOAT. It’s arrant nonsense - a brilliant footballer and stylish but his record just doesn’t cut it just yet. It’s Kerry hype to punter Dublin’s dominance in last decade. Brian Howard is only mid 20’s & has 5 AI medals. No - In my book Kevin McManamon is GOAT. He turned more games than anyone else & has 8 All Irelands. I remember the great (stylish) Mick O C and Mick O D and the great Kerry players (Ogie, Spillane, POS & GP) of 70’s & 80’s. Also Dublin greats - Heffo (as a player), Ollie Freaney, Anton O’Toole, Jimmy Keaveny (a terrific player), Brian Mullens. Then others Galway (Enda Colleran, Mattie Mc D) & Down (McCartans & Sean O’Neill) & Dermot Early (Roscommon). It’s total bunkum & disrespectful to say Clifford (1 medal is already better than all these. Not buying that! Talk sense guys!
