Was DANA BARROS The First Allen Iverson? Flamethrower! What Stunted His Growth?
Спорт
Allen Iverson is my all time favorite player to ever play the game. As a kid my neighbor and I were obsessed with the crossover dribble in 97, but more than that, when it was performed by Allen Iverson. He and I would record Iverson games and collect them like basketball cards, trading the VHSs back and forth, Yes VHS tapes, studying the phenomenon that changed the game for smaller players in the NBA, because he was not only unbelievable on the court, but his story was relatable to many kids to follow, even to this day. Him making it through all he went through made him a hero to us forever. There will never be another Allen Iverson. But there almost kinda was one before him. But you know how the prototypes always have some kinks here and there to work out before it’s perfected, well that was Dana Barros. A little guy with huge heart and a skillset wayyy before its time. In the 90s he was a sniper and continued to be throughout his short stint in the early 2000s to close a 41.1% career shooting from deep. If Barros wasn’t the first Allen Iverson, he had the chance, but for these reasons, he ended up being a vehicle that took Allen Iverson and many to follow to becoming what those little guys could do in the league.

Why isn't Dana Barros mentioned when talking about the best shooters ever? He would be amazing in today's game.

I still remember the game his streak ended. Fact is, once he went to Boston everyone forgot him. Breaks out in Philly, then hometown Boston signs him to a big deal....and never run plays for him. Gotta get Dino Radja his touches, yo! Goddamn ML Carr era, the moron who offered the Bulls two 1st round picks to talk to baseball Jordan. Thankfully they laughed at him.

Because they were using him as a BJ Armstrong spot up marksman shooter the bulk of his career in limited minutes but he had to shoot a consistent higher arc on his shot because all those shooting guards and big pgs had him by 3 to 5 inches. He was going against 6 '4" to 6'7 wings closing out on him that's why he had to host of long threes with his wiry lil frame back in a brutally more physical era.lol

@@carlwallace1129 that's true, he was definitely not a traditional penetrate and pass PG. Then again, Sherman Douglas WAS, but somehow forgot about the passing part (even though he was a wretched FT shooter)

My dad took me to see Dana Barros play at Xaverian high school in Massachusetts when Barros was a senior. If I remember correctly he was averaging something over 30 ppg and the other team triple teamed him and he still went for a cool 36. It was the first time I'd seen someone that good in person, a great memory of a Mass legend!

Man I'm glad to see Dana getting his flowers. Was dope as a youngster watching him cook. He was really that good
An absolute Boston legend I spent time at his basketball camp as many kids did. He gave back to his city and was a helluva shooter.
Dana Barros along with Stackhouse was the few bright lights that kept my heart with the Sixers after the Barkley trade until AI got drafted. Him, Mark Price and Muhammad Abdul Rauf would've been cooking in today's league along with Drazin petrovic (RIP).

Trae Young is Dana 2.0. Shooting, split double teams, floaters. Trae plays just like Dana
Dana Barros was like a Eddie House upgrade mixed with Pooh Richardson. once Dana was unleashed he displayed a nice bounce to his uptempo stop n pop pull up game from mid to long range beyond 3pt range.

You came out the bag with this one. I forgot about Dana and he was one of my favorite players as a kid .You do great videos man keep it up!!!!!💯
That buzzer beater against Indiana was just wild. I remember NBA media in the 90s piling on him as being shooting only in Seatte then briefly praising him in Philly. At least he stuck around and made an All-Star team.
All jokes aside I grew up in Boston during the 90s and I was a ball player myself. Dana Barros was a great person who used to take kids out to eat and give them pointers in shooting drills. I'll also always remember him for loving his mother so much he drove around in a yellow jeep with Momma in huge letters across his windshield.. I have so much respect for that man..
SALUTE to Dana Baros He had a burner for a jump shot. He gave Kenny Smith a 50 pieace and he hit 9.straight 3s in the 92 playoffs He would eat well in this modern NBA forsure
Definitely a baller that was ahead of his time. The league stunted his growth!
Dana was a bright spot between Chuck and Bubba Chuck eras. Weatherspoon too.
Thank you so much for doing Dana Barros video, I’ve begged all my favorite NBA content creators to touch on him, and you finally did it. This man is overlooked by the new generation because he’s not on 2k. He’s not on any all time teams or classic teams you can play as. This guy was waaaaay before his time, the very definition of it.
Being born in Boston, Dana Barros is one of my favorite players. Grateful for the video.
The best hooper out of the city of Boston. Great dude and a true Boston Legend.
Dude was my FAVORITE player as a kid when he was with the Celtics

Met Dana at a Celtics youth camp. One of the most down to earth people and one of the most intelligent players I’ve met. He also helped me fix my jumper.
This was great. I remember Dana and met him as a kid. Man I forgot about him. This actually made me realize and remember how good he was. Sad how the NBA misused him. Classy guy!
No. Dana was a beast!!!! He is who Trae Young is today. He wasn’t Iverson. If you watch Trae Young, then that’s who Dana was. He couldn’t pass better than Young but he would pull up and get to the lane easily line Barros. I grew up watching him and all the others

I went to a Dana Barros basketball camp in 05 & he was jumping out the gym. He was a good 5’10 but I couldn’t believe how much hops he had
Man, I loved watching him play back in the day; his alley oop game winning 3 (off one foot!) is still bananas to see today. Def ahead of his time given how shooting the 3 is now the weapon of choice in the league. I thought we may see something of a Barros 3.0 with Carson Edwards but so far that hasn't been the case.

Dana Barros was in the NBA one season before Gary Payton. Barros was drafted in 1989 and Payton was drafted in 1990.
Glad u finally got to Dana B. I requested him awhile ago 👍🏼🔥
This is one of the best breakdowns especially with this numbers and skill set
I love that you bring up basketball players that I grew up watching and are forgotten about.
I clicked on the vid because I saw the caption and thought damn, this is a crazy take and makes so much sense! Great vid!
Number 3 on the 76ers and number 1 on the positions, just like Iverson years later

Great work again my guy. Man you have to do one on Scoonie Penn if you haven't already. Also don't forget my earlier ask of Damon Flint, Stacey Augmon and Jalen Rose. Keep up the great content
When I think of Barros I think of Kenny Smith 😂😂 Kenny say dude gave him PROBLEMS

Loved Dana since he came in the league, one of my favorite to use in Bulle v Blazers. Then a breakout season with a bad Philly team, hometown Cs sign him to a big deal....then never run the offense through him. Brilliant ML Carr era 🤡🤡🤡

I think he gave 50 two games in a row
Dana was the truth when he carried the Sixers. Weird how he never got the credit he deserved.
The other 3D, was definitely nice. Like you mentioned JC.. just came to the league a little bit too prematurely, before the revolution of the combo guard era.
That cat was nice
Was my mans as a kid when he played for the Pistons.
Shout out to another legend, 5'10'' Michael Adams who had the green light to chuck 21.5fga including 8.5 3pa on horrible sub 40/30 splits way back in '91
Used to use him in NBA Live and jack up threes all day. I always was a fan of his play.
My first favorite player along w David Wesley. Those Celtics teams were bad but they had guys.
Please do a Lamont Murray breakdown, ideal wing player from 90s to the early 2000s, injuries and playing on bad teams
Shareef Abdur Rahim next!
Could you do Michael Dickerson or Sean Elliot please. Love your stuff
Kenny Smith hated guarding him. He made Sam Cassell guard him.
I forgot about him he was Nice💪🏾
Can you please do one on Ed Grey. He was one of the best scores and players out of riverside CA before Kwai.
I remember Dana barros came to my elementary school In ‘05. The mattahunt in mattapan, mass. One of the few cape Verdians to make it pro.
I won him on my MyTeam and he was nice!
Mattapans finest!!!!
Damn I remember him.
Michael Olowokandi has a interesting story and being from the 209 and him going to uop he was a legend during the late 90s
Allen Iverson's bars might have been subpar back then, but compared to today's rap, Allen Iverson's rap isn't that bad.
He was a killer! I used to watch him play for the Sixers and kill it. The team was horrible at that time but fun to watch! People forgot about him!
This was the man on live if you know you know
Have you covered all the early 90s draft busts like JR Reid and Rumeal Robinson? Even the talented guys in those drafts were crippled by playing with low energy like Derrick Coleman and Pervis Ellison. Also do Benoit Benjamin. That dude couldn't have cared less despite being gifted.
