just got to fix the problem I think the head gasket blew because I didn't surface the head. I got plans for this tractor when I get it straightened out.

We had a 312 on the farm. 2nd gear went out and it wasn't long after that the rest of the transmission bit the dust. Was a decent garden tractor before that. Literally light enough pulled a tow behind hand sprayer for fence rows. Tools for the garden in a dump cart, and on and on and on.

The way you where is how I was. 4months ago I found a 78 316K kohler engine. Paid $400 no run, bad rear tires, bad gas tank and no steering wheel. Today its a running and driving machine. I put ags on the rear and did a few other things to it. But I'm wanting to keep this machine long term. Starts up pretty easy.

I doubt that was a torque problem unless you were really far off. You should re- surface the head. Glue a sheet of sandpaper to a piece of glass and sand it until its flat.

Tekton tools makes an excellent torque wrench for less than $100. Well worth the money and always guaranteed.
