Hey Charles!! I got my copy of the book and read it twice in 4 days and I was amazed! Bruce Lee was who we thought he was!! So when it came down to an actual throw down I love the story in the book when Joe Lewis confronted Bruce accusing Bruce of some nonsense to which Bruce vehemently denied. But Joe Lewis kept egging him and Bruce invited him outside and Joe Lewis walked away. Now that's Joe Lewis, Karate Champ that, as Roper says in Enter the Dragon, "there's a point I won't go beyond". Awesome episode!!

I don't like John little saying Joe Lewis thought he could beat Bruce. John needs to be called out on that? Bruce beat Joe in sparring. So even if Joe is on record at some stage in the past as saying he thought he could beat Bruce. Don't mean to say we just take Joe's word for it. I doubt Joe thought he'd beat bruce.

I’m so glad you have an episode about this Charles. I bought John Little’s new book the minute it came out. I’ve gotten really tired of this narrative that seems to be pervasive these days in some quarters where some people say Bruce was nothing but an actor and every mma guy today could demolish him easily. Every person who I spoke to who knew this man say the opposite, he was the real deal, he was exceptional. I’m seriously beginning to think there must be a generational gap problem here. Those of us from the 70’s and/or grew up with Bruce Lee from way back when, did our research, tried to put his philosophy into action as well as his martial arts skill and wisdom. We became believers because we saw that it worked, it was viable, even now today. You do great work Charles, we’re all part of this ‘ Bruce Lee brotherhood,’ that has given us much, and all we want to do is pass it on. So thank you my friend. ✌🏽

Hi Charles, Great Episode. I tell you I am glad that John Little made this book cause I tell all the haters that to get this book to find out if Bruce Lee could fight. It bothers me when they say Bruce Lee was just an Actor and not a Martial Artist. They don't think about him as a fighter cause he wasn't in tournaments. Even tho Chuck Norris, Mike Stone said he would have been tough to beat for a guy his size. Chuck Norris said in an interview that he didn't have to compete cause he already had a name. He said if he did he would have done well. He also said Bruce Lee was a tough guy and he mentioned in an video that Bruce Lee was his toughest opponent in the Martial Arts. I was shocked cause I thought he was going to say Joe Lewis or Skipper Mullins. That says volumes. Thank you for posting this and have a great weekend my friend and stay safe.

Sadly the people who question if Bruce was a real fighter probably know little or nothing about Jeet Kune Do. And instead of seeking out quality instructors like Sifu Eric to learn what makes it so special for themselves, they just indulge their ego and criticize. As martial artists we should not be concerned what Bruce, or Eric or anyone else would do when confronted with a life threatening situation. We should be concerned with what we would do. As Sigung Richard Bustillo said, "You want to be the one going home tonight." Great interview and nice to see the gang again.😁🙏🐉

I know this is an often raised question that is regularly debated. I also know that this has been answered in the past in depth. And I know that the person giving the answer has the highest credibility. What a lot of people do is mistake Bruce's on screen fighting for his own. When the two are completely different. Simply put, if Bruce wasn't a real fighter. Why would seasoned and experienced fighters, (Jesse Glover, Ed Hart, James DeMile and Larry Hartsell) all want to train and learn from him?

I found out the other day that Ed Hart (who is usually described as over 200 lbs and could knock you out with either hand) regularly picked on tough guys in bars and beat them up to overcome his own problems with being bulled as a child. He later regretted his behaviour. But it still shows he was a vastly experienced fighter who had his ass handed to him by Bruce at their first meeting.

I have found that with the "legends" and the "greatest" type people that have died a LONG time ago and died young people now question and re-decide whether they are who they were. It happens with Elvis, Bruce , certain great guitar players. A big part is keeping the legacy alive in the right way. They are not here to defend themselves now. Also to many young people that look at things with a different perspective after that person has passed on. If Bruce would have fought say like Chuck Norris, a big name, there wouldn't be much discussion also. Sadly Chuck sorta change his tunes down the road years later about sparring.

Jim well said, and so true. And the case he stole the greatest of all time, and his legacy will live on forever. Chuck certainly had a tendency to change his tune as the years went by never admitting that Bruce was better than him or how great Bruce really was always proclaimed that he was the professional fighter. Meanwhile, we all know the truth. Thanks for chiming in and subscribing to the channel. Have a great weekend and see you on Tuesday for my new Bruce Lee short enjoy.

Interesting how chuck norris would never admit that Bruce was a real fighter. He always says the he himself was a professional fighter and Bruce was not. Point fighting is not real fighting, chuck admits he has never been in a real fight, if he had he would realize that a street fight is way more brutal than his point karate. By the way Charles, just realized how good your arms look, you still working out as you had a awesome physique in your competition days. Regards, Glynn.

Joe lewis once said bruce lee wasnt a fighter, and bruce lee critics regurgitate what Joe Lewis said until theyre blue in the face. But Joe meant Bruce didnt have a pro fight record. Bruces critics take what Joe says as meaning joe lewis didnt think bruce could fight? Kidding themselves like as if in year 2024 there is still a mystery of whether bruce can fight or not? There is no mystery. The martial arts world, and fighting world knew bruce was a phenomenal fighter when bruce was still alive and walking the earth, there is no mystery. We don't need no john little book to realise it.

Lewis also said they never sparred and that Bruce never proved himself in competition, and how when they were doing drills one day and Bruce unexpectedly threw in the 3-punch combo he used on Sammo in ETD, the witnesses expanded that moment into the myth of him getting his ass kicked. Comments like that and many more over the years made it very clear-even while calling him probably the "greatest martial artist of the century"-that the idea of Bruce beating him in the ring or in the street was absurd because, for all his physical attributes, Bruce was only great at ANALYZING fighting. It's why their fallout happened when, at a tournament, Joe listed his sensei as his original karate teacher. He claims it was an honest mistake when he was asked for the info on the spot…but no. He was on a non-stop winning streak that was being attributed to someone else, his ego couldn't take it, so he pulled a passive-aggressive move by not acknowledging Bruce as his teacher, which was exacerbated when it was announced to the crowd. Then he leaned into it over the coming years by saying or suggesting that being a great fight coach doesn't make one a great fighter, and how Lee needed him to prove his theories because he was unwilling to do it himself.

Hi Charles ! I totally agree Bruce Lee was a fighter first, actor second. He looked so good on film because, his dancing ability gave him grace and style as an artist. His philosophy, his dedication to train and teach, and act was way ahead of his time. He wrote his on scripts, wrote his own Jeet Kun do book on martial arts. Step by step books on martial arts techniques with photos. Student, Husband, Father,Martial Artist,Philosopher,Teacher, Writer,Actor, and a down right Human being. He believed in himself as to what he could achieve in life, nothing was impossible. He even struggled with discrimination to some degree. And what did he do, proved everyone wrong. Dreams do become reality, he accomplished so much in his 32 years of life. He inspired you to have this great Bruce Lee channel for us to enjoy! Very nice episode with Eric and his students. I always say if Bruce Lee wasn't a real fighter then he was surely one of the greatest conmen in history, fooling countless martial artists and competitive and professional fighters of every style from around the world for decades. In which case, guys like Sugar Ray Leonard and Benny Urquidez and Conor McGregor and Mike Tyson need to be told they're full of shit right to their faces. But seriously, how many "actors" have had that kind of influence and impact on so many? How many "non-fighters" have generated countless discussions and arguments over how they'd do against the greatest names in combat sports and martial arts both past and present-hell, against FICTIONAL characters like Batman (don't believe me, look it up). And speaking of fictional, whose portrayal in a fairly recent Hollywood movie was so controversial because, among other things, he nearly lost to a made-up character, something people couldn't even IMAGINE happening? I mean, either the planet is filled with gullible dumbasses from every walk of life who oughta know better (and in some cases, yes, that IS the case, lol) or maybe, just maybe, this Lee fellow happened to be the real deal. Just sayin'.

Why is that such a huge question (deal) regarding Bruce Lee’s ability as a fighter. No other martial arts actor have been so scrutinized. Some would say “well he never competed” ‘so’ ‘and’ how would that legitimize his ability, because he danced to the tune of the masses. He was invited to perform demonstrations at martial arts competitions/tournaments if he wasn’t legit why have him as a special guest to demonstrate what was new and innovative. Is it that today’s martial artist are envious of him who paved the way not only in the industry but to the world of what martial arts is and can be. Bruce Lee did it and had to deal with the prejudices of the time and because world renowned and a legend. Today’s martial artist have a hard time getting out of their own way. It’s only a plethora of you because of him, so stop trying to disgrace and degrade the one who made a way for you. He was a fighter and a great one maybe the greatest of all times but not a showboat or chess piece he wanted more and to do more to illustrate the culture of the martial art that was ostracized in the west and he did just that. That wouldn’t have happened playing tag because in competition he strikes not holding back in films he restricted himself just as all martial artists do in films so just stop it (although I know you won’t) 🎤 Drop!

Charles read this carefully.. you all Stay calm, so maybe the question shouldn't be whether BL was a real fighter, but whether he could fight? First of all, BL was NOT a fighter, he was never a tournament fighter or street fighter or anything else, but acted in movies acting to fight. so naturally he had to learn few moves here and there , Let me explain why. BL was a child actor, a teen actor, comedian, dancer and fencer, he was never a fully trained martial artist and he learned Wing Chun in a limited way from Wong Shu Leung who I knew as a friend and who told me everything. he said BL was a smart businessman and not a real martial artist and we were in Hong Kong together, he said BL never had a rank or level or a dan in any martial arts. He was never in an official karate or martial arts tournaments, except when he did exhibition performances to promote movies. even ED PARKER who introduced him said BL was an actor not a fighter. his wife said the same thing So anyone who said BL was the best fighter or invincible are mentally ill .just like the late Jim Kelly who was sick and knew he wouldnt make it and wanted to impress BL fans, and he said a bunch of nonsense. He also said the opposite about BL in the past, like the late Joe Lewis. So could BL fight? I think he could fight someone of his caliber and that would be more of a tournament point fight and that's it. Also, none of his students were really his students because BL didn't have the certification or authority to teach others and he came up with a name he called BL's Gung Fu, which was nonsense because there is only one Gung Fu, he could have said BL's style Gung Fu - Kung Fu might be better. so I met Dan inosanto 45 years ago and asked him to fight he said he was not a fighter but a practitioner. I asked inosanto about BL and he said no BL was never a fighter but a practitioner and actor. later went ot IMB and mett late Richard Bustillo and he said the same thing , none of these so called BLs students were fighter but buncha patato heads seminar con artists The korean hapkido fighter who played with BL in Game of Death JIN HAN JAE said BL was just an actor and not real... BL fist time in his life learned some martial arts from FOOK YUENG of seattle in 1960 where he worked in Ruby chow as a busboy and FOOK was the chef cook . Fook yueng was the founder of JET KUN and BL stole it and named it as JEET KUNE DO adding DO - Way in japanese to impress others and use as his tool to gain his fame.. Fook yueng who was his fathers friend remained silent.. Finally. if BL was a real Martial Artist and had schools which he had not .why would he have few patato heads like inosanto who was in fact student of ed parker like richard bustillo. why only few bums ? if BL was a real Martial Artist and teacher where was his hundreds of schools in hong kong and in usa ? where was his thousands of students ? BL had none of that and why ? Because he was not a real teacher and had no certification and authority to teach anyone BL was a smart guy who targeted and selected the top ranking fighters and acted with them like beating them up in movies to create his movie cult hero status and he did that very good except he couldnt fool Joe Lewis, Lewis said Im not gonna let a chinese actor beat me up just for a sake of a movie... was he wrong ? no he was right, look what chuck norris did, he let BL act like beating him up in a movie and years later when Norris said no man it was just a movie act. BL fans attacked him.. lol Charles Damiano .. I met jcvd in the 80s and he was a ballet ,and a gay man and he let me sleep with his wife and asked me to do him too. now the world think that jcvd was a real martial artist ,so what should i say ? jcvd is a martial artist and fighter ? i m in japan and currently in korea now, i was looking for that fake con artist DKyoo and they told me that he cant come back to korea because he cheated people and he is hiding in l.a .. Lets meet and I will prove to you that BL was not a fighter same as i can slap and show you that jcvs is a soft gay boy as for you I know who you are because I was there as you were in Hong koing and I know who you are. I know all these HKWCA , i know Leung Ting the mental I know all the martial art con artists... meet me I will change your world...I will show you that you wasted your life with this BL crap... cmon its your call or else please keep it down ....you are not gettin anywhere , BL was a kung fu movie actor ? Yes. he was a great guy ? yes but you cant make a man like BL the unbeatable man while he never fought anyone because that is a great disrespect to all of these people who fought professionally., that I wont accept . that is not acceptable... if you are a real martial artist let meet i will change your mind , we can meet all of your JKD guys anyone you want I will take em down in 2 seconds cmon its your call ....

Only foolish, stupid, jealous, ungrateful and bad minded people will say that Bruce Lee wasn't a real martial arts fighter, that man was perfect in all his core, his bodily condition was above normal his training, his speed, all those didn't come by talking but by hard work from training, so it's foolish to ask, like I said all who said he wasn't is jealous of the man abilities because none has never achieve his speed and power, and Bruce was very skillful so I know with all that agilities, power and skills he was, let me ask are Peregrine falcons fast? Can any other animals stop their speed when striking? Then what if Bruce was to strike for the eyes, groins, solar plexus, or the heads which he knows will causes instant damage or death, can anyone stop him? When he's too fast to stop? So jealous people must stop saying jealous things about the man, because I know in real life many who denys Bruce abilities wouldn't want to face him if he was still here in his prime, no one wants to get hit in the eyes by a powerful lightning speed attack, no one.

Great discussion. I think without doubt, Bruce was the real deal. World karate champions wouldn't be going to train with him and celebrities wouldn't be paying hundreds of dollars an hour to learn from him if he was a fake. Have a great weekend Charles ✌️🐉☯️

Of coarse Bruce was a good fighter he spent his life perfecting his skills.Chuck Norris has stated he was a professional fighter a professional means you do it for a living but in chucks day he fought for a trophy not money he had to train people for a living so he was a professional trainer taking nothing away from chuck if he fought today full contact he’d of been a champion but so would of Bruce if there was millions of dollars for point karate I’m sure Bruce would of gone that route he wanted fame and fortune not trophies so he became the greatest martial artist in film history over 50 years later he’s still the top

Who is a real fighter? Let's break this down....... NO ONE unless you are in the armed forces fighting for your life in a war-torn country, then you can say I'm a fighter lol All these movie star martial artists are legit martial artists but not fighters anything that involves a ring and rules isn't real fighting.

Kudos on the video...of course I've never met Bruce Lee.. But to say he was only an movie actor and not an actual martial artist kinda angers me. Apparently the naysayers have not done any research or are they just don't care and are jealous of Bruce Lee's accomplishments. It's probably safe to say that they would not say that to his face.. there will ever be another...👊👊👊☯️☯️

Actually, lost footbage was found. Bruce Lee destroyed Joe Lewis in a spar-fight. It's real too. He kicks Lewis in the chest and he flew back(real hit). He spin kicked him in the face. He sweeps him several times! Yes! Bruce Lee was one bad dude! 😳

If this "found footage" is the one where "Bruce" is wearing black, that's not him. It's one of his students, Skipper Mullins, who probably picked up some of his teacher's mannerisms. Lee and Lewis, far as I know, were never filmed sparring-in fact, Joe denied they did it at all-but there was a sparring incident where Joe gave Herb Jackson, who made Bruce's training equipment, an open-hand slap that nearly busted his eardrum. Bruce then put on some gloves and taught Joe a stern lesson that, in the words of John Little, "he didn't have all the answers."

Bruce was MOST definitely a Real Fighter. Was he a Pro Fighter? No, of course he wasn't one. He was, however, a Street Fighter. Bruce was NEVER interested in being a Pro Fighter, because in Pro Fighting there are rules you must follow. And, he thought that rules limits people. In Street Fights, however, there are no rules at all. Anything goes.
