Growing up I had a replica painting in my dining room of the little girl with the letter and flower. I swore that she would go missing from time to time out of that painting and I would see her spirit sometime in the middle of the night in my room. I am shook right now.... this answers my question about if I was crazy and hallucinating or not.

Thank you for the update, Slapped Ham..!! Awesome collection of haunted painting stories..!! Speaking of haunted paintings, when I was about 3 or 4, my parents used to own an oil painting of a sad looking old woman sitting on a rocking chair. One night, I saw a woman with long black hair covering her face walking out from that painting before disappearing, so I told my parents about that. Then they sold that painting to one of my mother's sisters without saying anything about the possible ghostly apparition. The painting was there, when I visited my aunt's house. Then one day, I noticed one of my toddler cousins was playing alone in the dark side of the hallway where the painting was hanging. His mother jokingly asked him 'is your friend back?' Later that evening, the same toddler baby angrily slapped my maternal grandmother for no apparent reason in front of everyone. I think they sold that painting as well, because I don't recall seeing that after I grew up. 🥶

That's crazy 😧
The painting of Henrietta Nelson is haunted. She loved her home and the surrounding community above everything else, so after her death she used the painting as a sort of portal to keep an eye on her beloved house. And her death wasn't a tragic accident, she was murdered. A young male relative (around 12-13) pushed her down the stairs and made up a story about it being an accident. He had some kind of mental issue, like he was a sociopath or something of that nature. After the crime took place he felt no emotions or remorse. The owners of the home who took down her mosoleum were well aware it contained her remains. They hated walking by and seeing the grim reminder of her death everyday so they buried her elsewhere to give themselves more peace of mind while they lived on the property. The subsequent rise in supernatural activity was a demonstration of her strong, yet stubborn personality. No one is going to be able to remove her presence from "her home" unless she willingly leaves. That's her perspective. Because she was murdered, she still has unresolved issues and karma that she needs to work out, which also keeps her tied to the house. Until then, she will continue to make her presence known and be a guardian to "her home".

Her life lost by an evil lunatic
The Portait of a Lady is haunted, and it is the portrait of the artists wife, not an alternative model that has been suggested. While his wife was alive, she was not always a positive person. The older she got, the more dissatisfied she became in different areas of her life. That lead her to be a bit of a nag and a complainer. There were other flaws in their relationship but her negativity was on the top of his list. To put it bluntly she was kind of a toxic partner who made him nuts. Avoiding her and trying to patiently problem solve with her didn't always work. That is what lead the artist to paint the portrait in the first place. He wanted to be reminded of the times in the past when she was younger, more vibrant, and living in her more soft feminine energy. After he finished the painting she didn't understand it, and she wondered why he chose to paint her in the soft, pink, idealic style. He was honest and stood up to her which led to a heated argument that resulted in her death. You could call it a crime of passion, but during that time divorce was highly frowned upon and he did have fantasies of her leaving him and never coming back. Since her death, her spirit clings to the painting and she is bitter. She lashes out at the world because the life she desired was denied to her and it was cut short because of her murder. That's why she continues to connect with the painting and lashes out at the living and manipulates the energy surrounding the portrait. In order to remove her it would be necessary to call in a psychic medium who is educated on reiki. Or a devout religious leader, such as a Catholic priest, would have to perform an exorcism/cleansing in order to remove her presence from the painting for good.

Why, I wonder, would an artist bring something that's tormenting them to the masses? Just curious...
The "Love Letters" one reminds me of a episode of the show "Supernatural" where both Sam and Dean face off with a spirit that comes out of their painting and kill their new owner(s).
I've never been one to appreciate this kind of art but that Polar Bear painting is haunting
Art is powerful, and has power. Making things with your hands imparts energy into the piece...negative and positive.

Good luck!
Perhaps the real curse is that anyone considers some of these paintings as art! To each their own!
Arshile Gorky had spiritual gifts and abilities. Before he sat down to paint, he would consume magic mushrooms. Magic mushrooms enable gifted people to have a stronger connection to the spirit world, and in some cases, have prophetic visions. While he was connected to the spirit world secrets from the universe would be revealed, while at the same time assisting him with his creativity. I believe he inadvertently incorporated his spirituality and prophetic messages in the paintings he created which caused a chain reaction of events to happen afterward. The details surrounding his creative process, and the subsequent events, are quite fascinating.

poor Henrietta even in death she can't get any rest. that's why you never disturb someone's grave.
The artist who painted Rain Woman has spiritual gifts and abilities and created the work while she was under spiritual attack by a dark, malevolent entity. This evil spirit latched on to her and attempted a full-on possession during the time the artist painted the strange portrait. As a result, some of the dark spirit's energy has remained in the art, which enables them to connect with and lash out against people. Unfortunately, because the spirit is so heavily entwined with the work, the only way to get rid of her is to burn the painting until it is completely destroyed.

something similar happened to me. I had visited Norway in 2005 ,and stayed in a hotel that was full of paintings of a famous Norwegian painter. These paintings were strange and one of them felt scary. I remember in the hotel room where I stayed there was a painting of him stuck on the wall. In the same night and while I was sleeping I opened my eyes a little and I think I saw the spirit of a woman hovering above the bed I closed my eyes again.when I woke up in the morning I said it would be a nightmare But it felt so real that it made me wonder😮
I use to live at 1510annesley st in Saginaw Michigan, beautiful home with 2 fireplaces, and 2creepy paintings of one lil girl and one sinister look lad, the home is a hot spot for spiritual encounters, including the black living smoke that raises from the basement and hides from the light. I lived there 3yrs, not may can live there long.

And not gonna lie, the 'Love Letters' painting at 10:32 kinda gives me the chills... I enjoyed this, Kallen. I instantly smashed the thumbs-up button, as always, mate. 👍

Wow, this was really good. I've never heard of these particular paintings and their haunted stories so this was great . I absolutely believe objects can exert some kind of mysterious aura that can influence events.
I have heard that Gorky's paintings are haunted/cursed before. I have seen pictures in books/online of the works lots in the plane crash. He was quite a character from what I have read. Experimenting with various drugs as well. Also read that he had gifted psychic abilities as well. He did a lot of work depicting historic and personal things that happened before he and his sister left Armenia to the US. When you paint such profound meanings in art, it surely can carry something other worldly.

Demons are attached to dolls or your brush everything is surrounded with energy, a painting that was painted with a negative mind it will likely leave that negative energy that can attract demons as humans can’t o Partake under the sun after death but their familiar spirit called demon or doppelgänger, look at Annabelle, she has a demon attached to her, she’s no soul or human

We have a cursed painting in our town , it’s said that people who look at it unlive themselves, sounds weird but it’s in a 16th century pub hidden in cupboard and is featured in Ghost tours with our haunted prison,( that’s been on ‘most haunted’)train station , hotels and castle all set in a medieval town we’re one of the most haunted places in England ❤❤
When I was a child, I had a poster with Frans Hals' 'The Laughing Cavalier' on it hanging in my bedroom. The eyes of the man on the painting followed you around the room. Gave me nightmares where I would look at the painting and the man would smile at me with a malevolent, contorted face.
Love letters has been widely distributed as prints. I have one. I just think she looks like a sweet little girl. It has never given me the creeps or anything.
my daughter was given a framed copy of 'love letters' when she was a baby (40 years ago). never found it spooky, however i was always of the belief it was originally comissioned as an advertisement for pears soap.

How about Aunt Pratt, a portrait hanging at the Shirley Plantation. The family moved it from the first floor and experienced loud, banging noises in the middle of the night. Finally, when they returned it to the original location, the noises stopped. The family loaned the painting to Rockefeller Center for a display of haunted artifacts. Supposedly, it was caught on camera swaying and rattling on the wall. When the people in charged locked it up in a closet for its own protection, it was discovered the next day with the frame smashed. The painting was removed to an antique shop to have the frame mended. The antique people reported moaning and banging noises. Finally, it was returned to the Shirley Plantation.

I would say that the "Rain Woman" is a case of Automatic Painting. It would not surprise me if the artist had some mediumistic abilities. This entity used the painting to enter the Earthly Plane. Scary stuff.
Fascinating how the metaphysical intentions and repercussions of perceived appreciation (or not) manifest as if the art is a capacitor filling up with etheric energy that appears conscious ready to discharch in the right mood. And yes ~ some art needs to spontaniously ignite, especially if the artist does not like the owner of the art. Imagine what the art may conjour if it was a depiction of UFO's dropping out of lightning ~

I attended Royal Holloway back in 2009 , I have heard the exact story about the student who stabbed their own eye out. (but heard it was way before my time there).
