I own a BOSCH GBS75_AE belt sander which I have been using for past 20 years. A few years ago, whilst sanding a floor, the sanding belt broke & it jammed between the rear roller wheel & the body of the sander. The lesson I learnt is that sanding belts have expiry dates from date of manufacture owing to the use of glue to bond the ends of the belt into a closed loop. The glue deteriorates over time, & even more so when stored in hot & humid conditions.
This problem affects all belt sanders regardless of the brand/model or size of the sander.
There is only one way to prevent this from happening, & I explain this in the video. I also explain how to remove the rear roller wheel in the BOSCH GBS75_AE sander if a sanding belt has broken off, & jammed in the rear roller wheel.

That's the best advice I have heard. Lots of videos about repairing broken belts and even making your own from scratch but it doesn't appear to be worth the time in the long run. Thanks.

i kept all the expired belts, & cut them to size & use as hand sanding paper when I need some. I don't like to waste.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I once broke the drive belt. I was sanding a floor and accidentally I hit a rag . I replaced it and still going strong. This was in '95 by the way. Cheers!!!

i had similar experience some years back, when i was sitting on timber floor sanding it with the belt sander The sander was between my 2 feet. It chewed into the trouser of my overalls. Good thing i stopped the sander before it took my foot off 😯

I had the same thing happen to me today as I was sanding a deck with my 25 year old Porter Cable sander. It was so frustrating! Then I thought, these belts are "new" but have been stored in the shop for maybe 10 years! I wondered if that was the problem. Thank you for confirming that belts expire.

Sorry for my late reply I am glad the video helped clarify the issue for you as well. It caught me out by surprise as well, & you can see how much old sanding belt stock I have. I have not thrown the old stock out, but cut them into sections to use as sanding paper when I need some. No waste is my motto.

Hi from Brazil! Very good advice for everyone. I had the same machine and it makes a loud noise when sanding, I tried the old model (without AE just GBS 75) and the noise is the same, I think it's something with the engine design. The noise seems to increase in frequency when I apply more weight when sanding. Does the noise produced by your machine bother you?

it certainly runs loud but I do not notice any abnormal sounds.
