This was a terrible idea. Mixing together 2 gallons that have a 99% chance of failure could have gone horrifically wrong. However, sometimes the reward is worth the risk. This came out pretty darn cool.

Having training as a hairdresser I'm very well acquainted with color wheel 101. With the golden tones in the tan, I expected something in a rich green tone. You do see that green as a shimmer, especially in the last few shots, but the lilac and violet shimmers were definitely unexpected. 5/5 for me!

Initial thought was also green but then I realized the tan had a lot more grey in it (which means there was already some blue there) so I had expected closer to an aqua or teal. I didn't account for how much red/pink was in the initial blue to pull it back to periwinkle.
I’ve been in the paint industry for twenty years, and it still baffles me how some color combos blend and produce the final colors that you end up seeing. I love this final color-easy 5/5.

I have been a painter and digital artist for fifty years, and I agree. 5/5. On my tablet, this sure looks like a periwinkle blue in the glass container. And a blueberry blue on the car. Gorgeous. Would look lush going down the road on a sunny day.

Thats funny, I paused before mixing and was prett close. The main clue was the amount of white in the tan. Its got very little color of a bit of orange maybe. So its going to lighten overall first and then after that mix in the orange which has red that makes that halfway between a purple and teal. Another thing to remember is blue is always stronger than other colors. So 50/50 blue with anything will come out more blue. Something with how human eyes work imo

Agree 5/5 classy but not at all boring
Just yesterday my 5 year old was painting paper plate critters and she made tan from white yellow & red, then mixed it with primary blue. First I though she was just starting to make a mess but after it mixed she got this beautiful soft blue. And now today I get to see this beautiful color used with quality paints sprayed onto a car 💙 I guess I need more of this color in my life lol

something to observe - your 5 year old never actually added in blue's complementary color of orange at any point... possibly why this combination doesn't turn into a chromatic grey.

I never expected the mixture to turn out as a frosty and sophisticated periwinkle with pearlescent violent shine. I think it’s gorgeous!!
The Desert Tan tones down the Persian Blue without destroying the color, yet makes a wonderful contrast with the dark trim of the Mustang (the dark tint windows, wheels, grill, etc.). It helps keep the color balanced.

The Desert Tan is made using a White Base as is the Persian Blue plus White Colourant would have been added to both paints originally. That is why the Blue lightened up. Nice combination
I predicted a gray shade. It looked like I was gonna be right for a little while. The end color was no where near what I thought it would be. Initially, it appears lavender, but the more you look at it, the more blue it becomes. I give it a 5 for uniqueness.

I never would have poured that together, but I'm really digging the Lavender-shift-berry result.
Tans are usually made with majority white and a little bit of color( for other paints like wall paints anyway) and vibrant blues are usually majority blue colorants. The yellowish colors combining with the blues in the undertones looks nice.
My very first instinct when you described it was it was gonna be a soft green. Once i saw the colors for myself and saw how bright and iridescent the blue is and how subtle the tan is i figured it would end up being a purplish grey. I thought i was right when you were mixing it, but that blue held strong! I would have bet money that would not be the outcome. I'm shocked!
With the tan being closer to yellow, I thoroughly expected a green color. This turned out really well. I love it.

5/5 I'm quite surprised at how dominant the blue is, yet you've made a more subtle colour by adding the desert tan. I honestly was expecting it to go more green but this is way better than I imagined
It’s much better than I expected, even after you mixed it. Wasn’t until you started spraying it that I started to look decent. I’m guessing that a 2:1 mixture of Persian Blue & Desert Tan might look even better. 4.5/5 rating.
I did not expect a periwinkle color from that combo, but I was confused why you guys thought it would be dark. I definitely thought the desert tan would dilute the blue... 🤔 I do like the color, so it'd be a 4/5 for me.
Honestly i was expecting the Tan to function more like a yellow, and make some kind of swampy green. Would love to see this on white and black speed shapes. And it preserves the colorshift too! 5 out of 5, absolutely Gorgeous!

I’m a blue freak, I love every shade of blue! This is a VERY solid 5/5 for me. You could show this car to anyone and nobody would ever guess that tan was part of the mix! BANGER!!!
As an oil painter that blue with that tan resulted in exactly how I expected it. The part I really liked was the pearl in the blue. It made it quite nice. When I paint and I don’t have black handy I use a brown and a blue. Burnt Umber + Ultramarine Blue = Black. It would also depend on how transparent the colors are.

during the mixing I was thinking it was going to be a milky lavender, during the spring though it was matching the blue painters tape, so I think the lavender was coming from the color shift component.
I think I like this more than a regular Persian blue. It's generally too strong for my tastes. This colour is nicely toned down but keeps the beautiful colour shifts.
I would use that color to paint minis. As someone who paints mini's, I mix a lot of colors. I found that a bright yellow and bone white makes a color that's great for bamboo. I give it a 4.5, I really like it and it's really nice, though I liked how it looked more in the blending process. I see why it came out lighter then Persian blue, the desert tan ended up lightning the blue up a bit, and gave it a bit of a pearl look.
this came out beautifully! love the subtle shimmer. the desert tan tempered the fierceness of the persian blue wonderfully. it looks like the sky. i have a feeling this will be a popular combo for lots of folks.
This might be one of if not my favorite color you've done recently. I love the subtle wide color shifts and the Dessert Tan really lightens and pastels out the Persian Blue and it's shifts.
The shade of blue is absolutely lovely, and the hints of purple that peek out here and there just makes the combi gorgeous 😍 💜 💙
gorgeous color. when mixing, i noticed a greenish shimmer, and i'm glad i can still somewhat see that in a cyan highlight. absolutely beautiful, especially with the purple undertones.
I'd give this a 5 out of 5. This Color is Beautiful! As @wiredshini said, it's almost Periwinkle Blue, with Hints of Lavender. Definitely not what I Expected. I was Expecting a Green, since the Desert Tan looked kind of Yellowish, and Everyone knows Blue & Yellow Make Green.

Yes, periwinkle is what I was thinking... And I was also expecting a green...
The colour is exactly as I expected, blue is a very powerful colourant. What I did not expect was brightness, seeing the reds and salmons rise out of the finish as the camera walked around the car. 4 out of 5
That turned out pretty sweet. Kinda thought it might go that route. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍
Now this is what I think of as a moonstone blue, lovely blue with cosmetic colour shift. Love the end colour 💕
I love it! The color shifting qualities are still there, but I never expected it to hold the blue to purple ish highlights and not see the tan at all. A definite 4+ to me anyway

Same here. I thought more "gray"; desaturated the blue WAY more. But whatever that Persian-blue pigment is, it's strong.
Totally did not expect this mix to be periwinkle blue! I love it!❤
This is a 4/5 for me, absolutely lovely. The softness of the color contrasts nicely with the more aggressive shape of the car. :D
I never would’ve thought those two would make such a beautiful color. I’m learning so much from this channel. I can only imagine how great it looks in person
That's absolutely gorgeous! 5/5 definetely one of my favourite combos. The subtle shimmer is so pretty.
I got recommended this video entirely randomly, but 5/5!! The normal Persian Blue would be a bit too intense for me but this actually perfect. You just made my dream car
I give this a 5. The color is so elegant. A subtle blue/gray. I knew it wouldn't be brown, but I thought it would have more of a green tint because there was so much yellow in the tan. I love it.
I love this video so much. When I studied painting at college, this was the main concept my professor taught us. That mixing colors isn't like mixing on a color wheel. There are so many variables that can affect your end result when mixing. I'm definitely gonna use your guy's video as an example of this in my art classes!
@staciecarrel4492

It’s all down to tinting strength and opacity. Some pigments just pack more of a punch, even if they’re the same color. Titanium white and zinc white are a good example. In acrylics zinc white has a tinting strength of almost nothing and it has a low opacity. It’s good for fog and mist in a landscape. Titanium white though behaves much better in blends and does what you’d expect it to do.
I love the purple hints/lowlights. I also like the more-muted-than-persian blue. But, I gotta say, the end result was not at all what I expected! Great job!
i give this a 4.5 out of 5. i actually expected it to be a lot more gray. it’s beautiful 🤩
That's a gorgeous color !!!! Well DONE
I genuinely expected this, 100 percent, and rate it a total 5/5 for the subtle color shift, absolutely spectacular turn out in my opinion. The tradition of Gabe's concern being a GOOD sign reigns on!
4.5 It would definitely make you take a second look driving down the road. I would be curious to see some variations of this like 1/4 blue and 3/4 tan and vice versa.
That colour looks amazing! 😍
In all honesty I actually like this colour more than if it was just the blue on it's own, the tan mixed in makes it more of a subtle blue and I love it. Also nothing boring about this colour, 5/5 I am a fan. I'd call it a periwinkle blue colour (which fun fact is actually a colour that appears in nature on Periwinkle flowers)
As an artist i guessed it would be a soft blue , but because the paint colours are mixed using lots of pigments its not totally predictable, especially because of the pearl , its quite beautiful in a subtle way . 4/5

I love how it’s like a matte blue with subtle color shifting 4/5 for sure
Tan is blue, red and yellow with white to lighten it up from brown. Adding the Persian blue would add to the blue in the mix and the white would tone it down. The color shift really helped this from becoming boring. It’s a nice color.
Not what I would have expected. The result is much bluer than anticipated. I was thinking it would be something somewhat greener but not really 'darker'. I like the color 5/5. A series of different mixes with from 10% Persian Blue up to this 50% would be interesting.
