Warm Audio Centavo Vs Real Klon Centaur
Just my quick impressions of a Warm Audio Centavo Klon clone VS my real Klon. I’ve seen a bunch of Centavo demos but none comparing one to an actual Klon. I just got the Centavo delivered so I thought I’d post my initial impressions. I hope it’s helpful.

Killer tone through the Princeton (without any pedals). Nice demo and comparison. Thanks man.
That Klon sounds great!
Oh yea, got the Tele on it. Love me a telecaster. I just bought a Richie Kotzen signature Tele. It’s epic 😊
So keeping the Centavo? What other klones have you tried that might be closer to your actual Klon?

Hi Daniel. I sent it back. It is a nice pedal however, especially for the price. A KTR (which I have) is the closest. Bill is making them again - so keep an eye out. They are only around $280 new. The one I thought was closest was the silver archer.
@Jon Diamond Do you still have Warm Audio Centavo?

I returned it.
Man, I was looking for somebody with Klon and Princeton for a long time. Just wanted to compare it to my modded for germanium D9E ARC Effects Klone V2. I guess I will keep it now
You should try it with mod switch it gets more lows actually

Exactly what I was thinking….

I did try the mod switch. Definitely cool and has more lows. But the thing I didn’t love about the centavo was a slight bump in the midrange I’m guessing around 800hz (that would be where a tube screamer mid hump lies). It made the sound a bit too “pointy” or “naselly” for my taste compared to my original. This frequency was present whether or not the mod switch was on. I think the centavo is a good pedal especially for the price though. In my experience trying a bunch of klones I’d say the silver archer and Tumnus are the best to my ears. The KTR is the closest and it’s the one I use live on my small fly pedal board
I’d like to hear how close an eq pedal could bring the centavo to the klon….

Ibanez analog delay for some killer slapback! I love mine.

Yes! It’s a killer warm delay. Nothing sounds quite like it.
Sound identical to me.
If they were worth the same in price I would understand that it bothers you how nasal the penny can be, but with the difference in price between one and the other, this frequency of 800 that you say becomes totally insignificant, also you did not activate the bass mod Surely by moving the centavo potentiometers you can equal or surpass the klon

I didn’t really like the bass mode. But I’m in no way saying one should spend $5,000 for a real centaur! No way. I got mine for $270 new in 1995 that’s why I have one. But I wasn’t able to get the Centavo to sound exactly like my Centaur. But there’s tons of Klones out there for people to try. And the Centavo is a good pedal no doubt.

@@jondiamond7383 Thank you, I bought the penny and returned it, it has too much output and it bothers me to have the output potentiometer so and so low, congratulations for owning an original klon of 95, you are lucky! Enjoy it a lot because there is no other pedal like the original klon no matter how much they say
You didn't review the mod setting..

I was trying to compare them as standard Klons. The mod setting just had a bit more bass but the midrange didn’t change (to my ears).
Perfect example of money can't buy skills
Maybe I’m one sided, I do like the real Klon better, I personally have the vintage audio Prometheus Klon klone ,
It ls older and circuit components drift. The warm audio probably sounds closer to a new Klon when it was made. Cant compare new pedal to old one. The best thing to do is compare two original klons and then the warm audio. Or even beter yet test component drift. Bunch of hype if you ask me. Play thr gear dont let the gear play you

I had my centaur new in 1995. It’s always sounded the same. I also have a silver Klon (sounds slightly different). Agree play the gear. Centavo is a good pedal. So are a bunch of other Klones. So is the KTR. Purpose of my little demo was to compare a pedal that claimed to sound exactly like a a Klon and definitely looks like one. I only shared my observations.
I'm not a Klone Centaur enthusiast but I like to follow videos on overdrive pedals. Sorry but in my opinion you should have made the comparison only with the two pedals on the floor and perhaps using a looper. Among other things, I know that the position of the pedals has a great influence on the final result. Anyway, even here in your video, I challenge anyone in a live context and at band volumes to distinguish the two pedals. In my opinion, Warm Audio builds fantastic through-hole pedals with premium components at a really affordable price. However in this video, where the comparison is done correctly in my opinion, I would say that the result is different. Maybe you shouldn't have sent the warm audio centavo back..😉🙂 Links: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qIiIqrmLo8i9fbg.htmlsi=rC3xjNWouhfs97E5
Great demo, nice licks! The real deal definitely blew the WA clone away.

Not sure about that. The Centavo held its own. Need to add the mod switch to the centavo for a proper demo.

@@DSilvergun Exactly....but even without the mod, the centavo has more low mids than most of the other klon clones on the market. So the real klon "blows away" the centavo? Yes....in price point 😂

I’ll add - I’d never pay current prices for an original Klon. I got this one new in around 1995 for $265 which seemed expensive! Plenty of klones or a KTR will get you there if the Klon is a flavor you like.
You want a real surprise (coming from someone who has over a $10,000 pedalboard): J Rockett Touch.

J rockett touch is a sleeper, ditto with the Xotic Soul Driven. Also, if you want a nice surprise that will put a smile on everyone's face, take the $99 Mini Dyna Comp and crank the sustain knob all the way ;)

@@dannyllerenatv8635 What happens with the dyna comp? I have a Compadre Compressor, used to have the Yellow Diamond Compressor which was a piece of studio level sound in a pedal... I know a lot of big time players have the dyna comp...

@@user-zv7lm8uk7h I'm not entirely sure if it's only the "metal can" IC dyna comps (which the mini has), but when you goose the sustain it collapses and distorts, but in a cool and unique way.
