Warlords - PC DOS Game - 1990, SSG. Longplay, Complete.

This is a complete playthrough of Warlords, released in 1990 by SSG. This is the PC-DOS version, though the Amiga version is superior with a few neat added quality of life features and far better sound.
I won with the Grey Dwarves on Turn 58. Hardest difficulty, all AI at Warlord - All AI Enhanced, and Intense Combat turned on.
I got a little lucky early, as the Selentines struggled.

    Man, what a blast from the past. I remember playing this hotseat style at my buddy's house after school. Simpler times!

    It is very interesting to play without exploiting some of the AI's shortcomings (no razing, don't leave an obviously weak city to lure out the enemy). But otherwise, even in the most modern strategies, the computer rarely so aggressive and smart. At the warlord level, he conducts deep air raids and tries to eliminate my bridgeheads. Impressive!

    They key to winning was to raze each castle you conquered so no other faction could take it back from you.

    Sometimes you definitely have to do that (The Dwarves mountain pass city can be a nightmare, as can the Ellvalie tri cities) - But I always try to win without razing if possible.

    The key to winning is placing your army in the route from the enemy army and expecting it to atack you, if on plains build tower for +2. The strategy is to maximize the bonus from units, terrain, and faction. And bless as much as possible

    Nice playthrough, although the pace is too slow because of the continuous production transfers.

    Thanks! And I agree, the Xfers do get tedious. Gets a little better in Warlords 2 with a couple tweaks, but still somewhat tedious. I actually think it becomes less important in W2 because of how the movement bonuses on units work. I haven't replayed W3 in a while, but going to check that out soon.

    In Warlords I, it's a set map every time, with every army starting in the same location, and every city being able to produce certain units. The contents of the ruins and such are randomized, and of course your success against neutral cities will be random. Warlords II and successive games would add the ability to generate Random maps in addition to set story ones. Thanks for checking out my stuff!
