How horrid that someone can literally hit someone and drive off never turning yourself in. You are a menace to society and should do what's right. The horrible things Ernest went through because of you. Rest in peace, Earnest. I'm so sorry for his family. To lose someone in such a traumatic manner is horrid.

Breaks my heart that Ernest served to keep others safe and some coward just left him there laying on the street. No one deserves that. I would of loved to have known him and listen to his war stores and his life in general. Thank you for your service Sir!

The sweet gentleman who cut his finger said something important -- "I have to stimulate my mind." It does keep us young. My father retired to his recliner at age 62, and aside from occasional golf and fishing trips, he was inactive at home. The slow decline into senile dementia began, as it had with his mother and brother. I'm fighting it for all I'm worth; earned a masters and post-baccalaureate at age 63, and I'm still teaching at 67. Going to fight it for all I'm worth! And I hope to be as sunny as that gentleman when I'm very old!

Keep going. My former professor still works at 85, and my sister in law's father is 60, 40 years as a real estate agent now he'll drive a limousine, as he is getting bored.

As a 67 year old, I can tell you that we can decide to be. I certainly spent quite a few years being pessimistic, but I simply made up my mind to be as positive and upbeat as possible. It works, actually. We should all be as jolly and amusing as that gentlemen when we're in our latter years!

Oh William Henry, you really are a prince.

Kevin is such a sweet, gentle giant! And I am certain that it’s his mother loving care and acceptance of him that has created such a wonderful man. And the x Ray for the old chap that was hit by the car was unbelievable! If he wasn’t so close to the hospital he would have bled to death right there on the road or in the ambulance! What a tough old bird!

The older folk in this episode are just fab! They’ve lived through so much: war, rations, times when disability wasn’t spoken about & misunderstood & so much more. They’re incredibly strong, cheery & just get on with it. I admire them so much & applaud the medical personnel for giving them the respect they deserve. Love this show!

This is exactly why I am a DNR! At 93 I would not wish to be brought back. Shame on whoever ran him down and killed him!

Kevin IS gorgeous as a person and I love his mama too. Glad he wasn't too badly hurt. Really nice patients and wonderful staff. Thanks for sharing

I’m an aged care nurse in Australia. I can so relate when they have elderly people at their hospital. It’s hard to explain but when you look at them and talk to them, it’s all in their eyes. It’s like you are seeing their life. The stories they have are amazing. I really think our younger generation could learn so much from them. Unfortunately the heartache you experience when they pass away is so intense especially when you are with them when they take their last breath. You look into their eyes and there’s this amazing life ending 😢

It's terrifying, if I'm honest. My son is only 9. Idk what his future will be, and it keeps me up at night. But we are only moms and dads who love our babies with all our hearts.

Ernest was 93 & getting on with life fine & someone hits him, runs & he dies. Tha REALLY got to me!!! Hearing all the stories about 50+ years ago was very interesting but I do hope Kevin's Mom does have a plan for him after she does pass!!!

That mother and son has such a light about them.

Mr Andrews the metalworker was amazing. 83 years young.

My husband is 72 years old and still works full time. He has no interest in retiring. He says his job keeps him mentally sharp and physically fit. He says everyone he knows that retired at 65 saying they were going to golf or go fishing whenever they want were bored with either within 3 months, put on a lot of weight and were dead within a year or two after retiring, he feels from not having anything to do, finding out a life of leisure isn’t for them way to late put them in an early grave.

What a lovely mum from Kevin ❤❤❤❤

Rip Earnest! I hope the person who did that to him never gets a peaceful nights sleep in his life!

I believe Ernest's agitation and pushing people away ("I want to fall over", "I want to fall", " Let me go now") were all signs that he did not want intervention to keep him alive. It is so difficult when the job of these doctors and nurses is to do everything to save lives. RIP Ernie.

He was agitated because of his head injury. It's a common response.

Oh my word, when Kevin said "I won't hurt you" to the consultant after pointing out he was much bigger than her

The guy who cut his finger isn't the problem it's the youth with all the stabbing and misbehavior. Calling an ambulance then refusing to go with them when needed are the people wasting resources.

He reminds me so much of my Dad. When he was hospitalized, he was getting a unit of blood daily, and getting better. He then decided that someone else in the hospital probably needs the blood more than him, and refused any more. Sadly he passed quickly and before they ever figured out what was wrong with him😢

You can't judge his decision based on this. He as important as the next person and as much right to accept or refuse treatment

I hope they put on a lot of stories on the news/FB and posters in the villages so that the person who hit-and-run and left Ernest on the road, at least knows what they’ve done. We’ve lost another one to heaven. Rest in peace sir and thank you for all your service. May you sit at the right hand of Jesus. Hugs and prayers to his family who are going through such a devastating loss. 🕊♥️🙏🏻🇨🇦🕊

Kevin and his mum Joyce stole my heart, the undeniable strong bond and unconditional love says it all

God's angels personified. I've worked in hospital setting 25yrs. EVERY single staffer contributes to patient care. It is like a symphony. Making a positive experience for what is probably the worst day in a patient's life is beyond satisfying.

I always make sure to say kind things and be grateful to all the staffers. I appreciate the cleaning staff, and go out of my way to thank and compliment the people bringing meals. We are all human and can use a kind word. I know it doesn’t happen enough because of the reaction I get. Mainly disbelief. They are all doing a job, we don’t appreciate people’s help nearly enough anymore, and act like everyone is there to serve us and we are deserving of all this service. Truth is, if they do bare minimum required it often would be bad for us! Be grateful, thanks cost nothing!

I always leave these episodes feeling better about the world as a whole. Except for the coward that hit the elderly man and didn't own up to it.

William is a smart guy to keep working. We have a 65 year old master tech at my work who chooses not to retire as well. He seen too many friends retire, stop doing what they love, start going to doctors all the time and eventually die. He turns hours like the younger techs, I just try not to schedule the heavy rigs on him. Luckily we have plenty of vintage Mercs to keep his specialized skills very much in demand and keep him happy. He's an absolute darling and I'm glad I get to work with him

Hit and run perpetrators deserve severe punishment.

The first patient, William with the finger injury is a delightful man. He laughed at himself despite the pain and the anxiety of a serious finger injury. We all should be like William.

Never try to catch a falling piece of sheet metal. I had a co-worker who tried to catch a sheet of metal roofing that had slid off a first story roof, only 10 feet or so, and i took off all 8 fingers and the ends of both thumbs. They managed to reattach most of them, but his hands were never the same. Unfortunately he had just been transferred to our crew and hadn't undergone the same training as we did.

Working with sheet metal is like juggling razor blades. It takes time to learn how to take your time.

With all the CCTV they all over, I'm surprised they didn't have the accident captured on video. That's a shame. It's also a shame that the driver couldn't be bothered to stop and render aid. I hope it weighs heavy on their conscience and they eventually turn themselves in to take full responsibility.

I've cut my finger just like William (although I'm a amateur goldsmith) and it was half the size as his cut but it was quite remarkable how much a finger bleeds!

24hours in A&E is the best very exciting to watch the best medical TV show

If you accidently hit someone with your car, then stop and render care. Accidents happen and you're reaction shows you're intentions. I hope they find the person who did this and they go to prison for many years.

Ernest wasn’t ready to go. But his body couldn’t hang on with the damage.

Washing dishes in a restaurant during high school, I dropped a tub of water filled water glasses. Back then, they would give you water in restaurants along with the menu when you arrived. So, as I dropped it I went to grab for it hand I managed to grab a piece of broken glass and by reflex, I squeezed. Only 3 three stitches but I learned not to grab at something that is falling unless I know it won't hurt me. That didn't help me when I bought a 6" wood planer/joiner.

YAY! 1st here. Love this show. Keep them coming. It's exceptional work these care givers do. 👏👍❤🇺🇸

My dad (who is an intensive care paramedic) was peeling pumpkin, and he sliced the top of his finger off. Not a flap, gone. He thought about calling his mates (it's a small country town, so they aren't busy) but he had some of the kits in his car, so he had to walk me through how to wrap the finger. Needless to say, we had McDonalds for dinner. I also wasn't keen on blood-covered pumpkin.

May he find peace in God's loving arms and his family find peace knowing he is not in pain any more. So heartbreaking even for us who just watch these stories of the trauma family's endure. @@JaniceWithTheTarlovCyst they missed a major health problem and I got a really lame apology. My family was told they could leave but they were called back in a panic. I was triaged to the very bottom of the list, below a sprain case. I am honestly surprised I survived. Lots of mistakes, like gave me a breathing treatment and attached the wrong mask to oxygen. I couldn’t breathe.

interesting that they didnt mention anything about ernest wanting to die. Everyone kept saying he was fighting to live when he said he didnt want to. remeber to get your dni forms filled

Just horrible no cameras even on doors or dash cams didn't video Ernest being hit. Whomever left him like a piece of trash, is just that and a coward to not take responsibility.

When I watch this I compare A and E in Canada where most are in emergency because they have no family doctor or after hours treatment. Situation is getting worse. A and E should just ideally be for emergency

I'd really like to know WHY doctors fight so hard in the case of patients such as Ernest. Recently I had a small skin cancer removed from one of my eyelids. I had TWO separate surgeries that day - the 1st under sedation to remove the cancer, the 2nd under full general anaesthesia to repair the wound. The 1st op - well, one patient had to go back into the operating theatre 4 or 5 times to make sure all the cancer got removed. One of the other patients being operated on that day was a lady in her 80's who lived with senile dementia or similar. Her daughter had to remain with her the whole time. I'd really like someone to explain to me how such surgery improved the quality of this ladies life and consider putting her through the experience an act of abuse.

If anyone needs a brain transplant it’s me I suffer from chronic migraines and it’s a daily thing I’ve had them for 37 years

Get botox. Alot of people have had suksess with it. In my country is free if you have cronich migranes.

They have a lot of new treatments for migraines. Are you in UK? You might need a referral to a consultant or specialist Dr, but they do nerve blocks and Botox and prevention medications. Don’t put up with it, you can get serious relief but you have to chase them.

Is he Autistic? The lady's son with heart problems? Or Does he have Down's Syndrome? I'm guessing Autism. I'm Autistic so, I am guessing he is classically Autistic though he can speak through his mouth so. Autism is a Neurotype not a Handicap. That's when you are in a wheelchair.. Also we're not children we grow up just like everyone else. Just differently that's all. It can be hard to navigate in the adult world when you've got a Neuro-developmental Disability though. Having to Adult is taxing on us.

At age 93 he should not be allow walk on the busy public road he should at least have a family members to assist him to go collect his pension very sad and reckless where is his family members or a closer younger friends to assists him I hope he regains his conscious

My father in law was still driving at 93. Everyone is different. My own husband , his son had to quit driving at 79. What a thing to say.

So sorry about Ernest... but think it was his time..
