I never thought that my favorite sci-fi horror movie that was made about 18 years ago would become a survival video game. When I saw the 2005 version of the tripod, I instantly fell in love with it. I later got a Pegasus Hobbies model kit of the exact same tripod as a graduation gift and still love it and the movie to this day. I can’t wait to see this game’s release! Thank you developers and keep up the great work.

This would be a very good battle royal game. For game developers, the more the concept relate to the world, the better the battle royal. This would do it.

Always thought the tripods looked like the Aliens themselves. If man built it, it would look like a huge human.

Actually they are. The canonical model of the aliens controlling the tripods look pretty similar to the tripods themselves, even down to the head shape.

it is. their is only one alien pilot aboard any one tripod as well. They mimic the movement because in what we would call the cockpit is a alien pilot in a membrane that copies his physical movements and patterns them to the tripod he is operating. Much like a VR interface except instead of handheld controls and a face visor its a full body bio-membrane that envolops the body completely. There is some amount of crews quarters most likely just cryo-pods, and the rest of the machine functions to process human prisoners and blood, and operate the weapons and locomotion of the machine.

Cars were exposed to emp during the lightning storm, in almost every iteration of the story, most electrical and electronics were fried at the very start of the invasion, even watch batteries were sapped of power. So cars is a no go save for a few souls who can quickly McGuyver them into working order and most gun owners would probably have gathered as days went on to form militias and been systemically wiped out or even conscripted if not outright shot by military upon discovery.

No everyone tries to wait it out. Remember the tripods are looking for them. So in most scenes everyone is hiding. But they should add more people i aggree. Tho it is still in pre-alpha..

That happens. They will turn their engines down sometimes and all you'll hear is a thudding sound as they step. Hard to tell which direction. Then you hear the horn, you turn. It's *right* there and it's coming at you. Fcking terrifying.

Then, a split second of a flash and then a laser coming right the hell out of nowhere and then hearing it’s loud ass horn and knowing that the tripod is closer the whole time is what I want to hear first. Now that’s how you do horror.

Personally I like the dread of hearing the engines but not knowing the direction it's coming from, yet its coming. It's like hearing the reaper leviathan roar knowing it now knows where you are

This movie was arguably one of the best alien movies ive ever seen. Maybe behind independence day but thats about it. Love the design of the tripods or "harvesters" the sound of it moving and the horn. Such an incredible overall design and thats a big part of what makes alien movies so great imo.

Same! To this day the movie still makes me feel incredibly unsettled. You should check out Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds rock opera. It’s another really great interpretation of a classic story. Very 70’s though!

Who would win. A warlord Titan from 40K or a tripod? Both got loud af war horns and both are meant to be killing machines. Both are shielded.

The scenes at night are particularly terrifying... well done on that lighting model.

5:10 this part is very terrifying, you don't know you are heading to the alien of alien coming for you

Amazing! I’m speechless. Constructive criticism. The scene where you’re zapped to death on day 2; the birds seem to like being on the tripod. However, lore is the birds hate the magnetic shield. They fly away in every scene but the end. That’s why at the end of the movie, when the tripod operators are dead, Tom Cruise sees the birds on the tripod and says, “no shield!” Maybe delay the timing at which birds are attracted to the tripods. Thank you for reading and thanks for all your hard work 👍🏻

Sound design is scary AF. The sound of the tripods is perfect. I hope they also manage to slot in an "uuullllllaaaaa" and some easter eggs from jeff waynes the war of the world musical version which is seared into my mind.

I love how they used as much as they could from the movie in terms of sounds and effects for the game

the sound they make still gives me chills. i love watching these demos just for that :)

I read War of the Worlds as a kid and it gave me nightmares, and I've loved it ever since! Can't wait to play this.

Imagine this in Unreal engine 5.2 with the procedural level generation environment already released. :) Imagine this with a hud for the alien ship where the player has few types of night vision and as an alien inside the ship you manage resources for your ship identical to the movie. Yes this game deserves love. It's getting way too good to be true. It's an outstanding take of playing as the villain. Both factions needs some work. The military should be a mandatory faction in the game. This has a lot of potential.

The sound of these things is creepy and terrifying

In the 2005 universe we know that suicide bombers would be an option to defeat harvesting tripods, but I wonder if baiting them to a minefield would have been an effective workaround for their shield. 🤷🏻‍♂️ The shield itself seems a fascinating curiosity because it almost seems intelligent in what it regards as permissive and non permissive.

Typically shields in science fiction tend to repel high velocity attacks whereas walking through it would be fine. Every single shield equipped vehicle or alien or supersoldier I've seen in scifi also came equipped with a radar system that I wouldn't be surprised if it could detect high velocity projectiles and bring shields up in time to block them.

4:00 - 7:00 - I feel exactly the same anxiety as when watching the Spielberg film... Great job!

I randomly got this as a recommendation… "War of the Worlds" terrified me, I watched this movie back when I was a kid and it traumatized me, I was seriously afraid of an extraterrestre invasion with such a technology that our humanity couldn't rivalise, and so we would all be doomed. Typically, the mechanical sounds of those Tripod is what marked me the most, they are stressful and you absolutely don't want to hear that IRL. I think that if we ask me the best horror movie I've ever seen, even though he is first of all a SF movie, I would certainly respond this, then "I am a Legend". :)

Right? Streets are so empty. Makes a certain type of sense but where's the looting and militias and military convoys and scared randos?

The tentacle probe is so scary and unsettling and the lightning strikes are more scary

they need to add a full moon system so you can go around at night without a flashlight, like with light coming from windows and what not if your inside

Honestly can't believe they made a game on one of my favourite movies!

Looks and sounds great. Presumably, the gameplay is to find enough food, water and shelter while avoiding the machines to survive until (spoiler) the Martians die of a cold virus? Or is there the opportunity to link up with other humans and actually attack the machines? Nice animation on the tripods walking. At the beginning of this demo we see them walking in front of electric pylons. I wonder if they interact with the pylons/wires and bring the elecrricity down in that area? It would be superb if that was the case. Great to see HG Wells' brilliant late 19th century novel made flesh as a survival game.

This is fantastic! Was a kid when I saw the movie and it’s been an obsession since, no sci-fi movie since has been able to create the same type of suspense and realism! Spielberg was ahead of his time when making this movie ( the CGI beats anything I’ve seen to date ) The fact that the developers have created this game is overwhelming I have one question that someone might be able to answer ( what actually happens if the prove was to find you ? ) the Martians only ever came out of the house was empty so I’ve always been curious? Also the pov when playing as a tripod could be improved, maybe some weird filter that gives an idea of what the alien pilots see ?? Overall, very impressive

We need more open world survival horror games. Like a Terminator one,falling skys,red dawn, the list would be endless. But glad we got war of the worlds. Looks awesome

Graphic:10/10 Gameplay (a bit hard) 10/9 Story 10/10 Npc engine (not enough npc, in fact this doents make the game worser) 10/7.9 Enemies 10/10 Surviving engine 10/10 Bonus for: -giving a little headstart time -playable as tripod -easily makes the light horror theme -the cameras are the cherry on the top -military attacks are really good -the aliens are kinda hot Yes...this is the perfect, most likeable, BEST EVER tripod game

I'm sorry hot??? Also I think the probes movement could be smoother, cause having it using procedural ai and physics is good. But it seems a little janky at times and does not look at smooth as the movements from the movie, now I know nothing about how this works but maybe having a mix of the three (animations, physics and procedural ai) would help smooth put come of the jumpiness of the model. Other than that and some of the points you brought (the npc thing, I agree there needs to be more for the first bit anyways, some more violent people who try to rob you, the military etc.) up I think this game will be great!

This movie was the shit as a kid I’m dam happy to see this masterpiece come to fruition!

Very excited for this game to release. The premise/foundation of this game is (to my knowledge) completely unexplored. We need more alien invasion/post apocalypse alien invasion games. Zombie games just continue to get churned out, but I think some alien invasion games, especially in this vein of survival, would breathe some much needed new life into the survival/open world survival genre.

I like the multiple lightning strikes on one location in the background, showing that more tripods are going to rise. Basically this adaptation's version of one martian cylinder falling every 24 hours in the book.

I remember watching « War of the Worlds » in theaters when I was 14, soon after I read the book. Spielberg was a legend to me, I’d seen on TV « Jaws » and « Close Encounters of the Third Kind ». Strangely, I don’t remember the horn sounds until today! I don’t know what went through my mind 😣

@@aegontargaryensixthofhisname yea, there was one movie from 1953 which was really popular at the time, although the machines weren't tripods because of the limitations at the time, it had its own TV sequel in 1988, there were 2 Direct-To-DVD adaptations, the decent one made by The Asylum and the really dogshit one from Pendragon Pictures FOX and BBC had their own TV Adaptations in 2019, but those 2 had serious flaws

I wish people would stop falsely claiming their KZread videos are in 4K. KZread doesn't support 4K, it only goes up to UHD (despite KZread's claims). 4K is 4096 x 2160. UHD (including KZread) is 3820 x 2160. The difference isn't that great, but it's still real.

I hope this will come to consoles too

That's weird that the tripods look like the aliens themselves. It's like a human driving a car that looks like a human

Would be cool to see VR support for the tripod later down the line. Would be nice to fire both lasers at the same time while aiming in different individual directions. Double the fun, double the chaos (if there’s multiplayer, which would make it far more intense if a VR player is a tripod)

That diner scene needs some high register, metallic sounds when the stomping occurs, like glass and metal things tinkling, most interiors could probably use it. Like a 'things shaking on shelves' kinda sound. Also, maybe motion capture someone running scared and confused, tripping on themselves in a few different ways and hook up the peds with the animation, eventhough the models are kinda low poly, the animation would go a long way towards feeling realistic and scary. It's looking great, I've been looking forward to this for 3 yrs.

Wish they were the Jeff Wayne tripods. Still looks amazing.

Same, but a survival-horror Forest-esq game based on it makes a hell of a lot of sense after seeing gameplay footage of it.

I'm looking forward to seeing how players will handle those trying to take their car. Some will give it up to avoid dying, while others will speed ahead and run over anyone who gets in their way. This gonna be fun!

Every time I see the tripods ( game or film) I often wonder what purpose the hooting serves and I can only think of one: scaring the living daylights out of humans. Sure, it could be communication between the machines, but if you're performing an invasion, surely silent, internal comms would be better. You don't really want your targets to know what you're up to, after all... unless of course you've included a fear factor in your calculations, and you decided you wanted a sound that would send your targets fleeing in panic! I think that's why the first machine hooted before it activated the death rays: it wanted the observing humans to connect sound with impending annihilation. After all, if you get tagged by the heat ray you are instantly turned to dust, and only your clothing and inorganic effects get left behind.

If I recall correctly, in the movie their horns were only used to alert other tripods/aliens of people or threats and a different sound to call the aliens back into their tripod while they were searching inside a house.
