3:40 I can't say I have seen decision trees for selecting statistical procedures in introductory statistics material. Rather I have seen plenty of flow diagrams which are mappable to directed acyclic graphs (DAGs). A polytree is a DAG that maps to a tree by replacing its directed edges with undirected edges. Some DAGs are polytrees, but not all DAGs are polytrees. So far I have only found that such introductory flow diagrams map to DAGs that are not polytrees. That definitional technicality and empirical induction aside, I also think we should move away from those flow diagrams being standard material.

Nevermind. I found bunch of decision trees. They appear to be less comprehensive or introduce repeated decisions.

The seminar sounds great. Since I've been following the seminar for a while, I'd love to ask you some questions directly and learn from your expertise! However, since I'm already a bit deeper into Data Science and rule out very good basic knowledge, the topics of the first two days are a bit less interesting for me. Would it be possible to attend only the third day?

I went to the instats site and found the seminar, but I could not find a clear description of *prereqs.* On one hand, it says for those with “little or poor introductory stats” but on the other it (sort of) assumes familiarity with R. My last actual stats course predated R (and… the web, and personal computers 😳🤷🏼‍♀️), but I’m a retired Java programmer looking for an intro to stats. What ARE the math prereqs for example?

R is not required. You can use JASP instead.

The course site says it is over now, which makes sense. I imagine if it is one section per week with six sections that it would be over in June if it started in May. How did it go?

I see Python is not supported in the course. There are only so many tools a single instructor can support, especially on the first go. In the future the course might invite a wider audience if Python is also supported.

I see a number of different rates but what is the registration fee if you’re just some jackass off the street who is interested in statistics? Do I get to call myself a researcher and pay the fee for that lot?
