Trust me Kara, you would not want to work in retail. Online customers can be hard to deal with but in person, they can be way worse. Entitled, abusive and sometimes even violent, it's not for the faint hearted 😬

I’ve done both work retail and online and retail is so much worse! I totally agree. People say the mean things to your face and yes may get physical. I’ve seen so many cashiers get yelled at for things out of their control. Trust me it’s not an easy job!

I completely agree with you. I'm lucky because I don't really get bothered by it...I find bad reviews to be funny and I know I have a zillion wonderful customers on the other side, so I just shrug it off. Bad reviews on my products because they didn't read my description, tho......I get so aggravated! I sell collage packs for paper artists and one guy got angry (mind you, I sent this package to a PRISON) because he thought he was ordering 50 magazines (for $5) but he was actually getting 50 pages from a certain magazine. But that's where our society is now... No one reads anything anymore and they get mad when they didn't get what THEY expected instead of what you're actually selling 🤦🏻‍♀️

I got a bad review that irked me. She said she was unhappy with it because she didn't read the description and thought she was getting something different. I was so annoyed. She was actually reviewing herself. I got one who said they thought it would be larger, but it has how big it is in the beginning of my description. 😂 Now I know some don't even read descriptions. 😂 People are funny.

@@boldfacedtruthEtsy doesn’t make it easy to find the descriptions these days. It’s all about the photos. Or maybe just one photo, as they might not even see they can swipe for more. 🤷‍♀️ I sell vintage and often have my hand in one of the photos holding the product. One customer gave me a half bad review because it was bigger than she thought. How big do you think my hand is… giant? Well I just wrote “thank you” and locked it in.

@tinaindina7032 😆 🤣 Giant hand 😆 🤣. You reminded me about Etsy hiding descriptions. I forgot about that. I do have multiple pictures. I sell fondant toppers, and every listing has at least one picture of the item next to a ruler. I learned that while doing research before opening. I truly want to show exactly what they are getting. Most I believe, at least look thru the pictures. I need to get focused on adding videos to the listings. Thanks for the reminder about the descriptions on the app. Appreciate you!

You brought back college art class memories for me. Yes, I remember some of those critics. It was brutal sometimes, mainly from the professors. The professors were "experts" working in the field too. Not just a teacher acting like they knew the outside. They worked full time creative field jobs and taught part time classes too in fine art & graphic design classes where I went to college.

When I was doing window paintings, the five minute experts used to think it was ok to walk up to me and tell me how they thought I should be doing my paintings. Do you really think I haven't thought of all the easiest ways to do this stuff in forty years??? Lol It was irritating. Thankfully, I haven't had much of that in my jewelry craft, YET. Thanks for your insight, always!!

I put in my ear buds when I do window painting at commercial businesses. Noise blockers. I love it! You're correct everyone is a critic.

People said the same type of thing to me when I was a nurse (years ago) on the Mother/Baby unit. They had the misconception that I just sat around and rocked and dressed up new babies all day. It was so hard not to tell them it's not always fun work, how taxing it was to work 12 hour night shifts, and how I saw lots of sad cases and circumstances. I always had to remind myself they had no idea, and why should they? You don't know what you don't know.

Just sent out a custom order, extra extra large, mind you. Was told he would be ordering at least two more becaus eI was willing to work with him... then he goes on to say how expensive I was compared to other makers. I wrote out an explanation and sat on it for 24 hours, then erased it. If he likes his purchase, fine. If he doesn't, fine, he can send it back and i will happily refund the purchase price, then fire him with no qualms. I generally love my custom buyers, but most buy one to see what they would get, then we talk about fibers, colors, etc. Went thru art critiques in college, which is why I didn't continue it as a career. My talent was stretching canvases, sanding and prepping clay and creating glazes. Drawing, painting, throwing/construction wasn't where I shone, lol. And I we tell our home renovation clients, all jobs are 95% preparation. We have torn out & levelled floors, removed and replaced tons of bad prior work (a lot of DIY repairs that 'didn't') and repainted over bleeding walls until the customer, and us, was/ were satisfied, which is seldom (more on us than the customers, but...).

I agree and have been developing a thicker skin. My problem is that customers seem to overlook tons of good reviews about the high quality and look at that one bad review and ask you about the quality. Bad reviews seem to be weightier than good....

Occasionally I get a 1 star review with a semi generic complaint about quality being garbage. Considering I have hundreds of review praising the quality of that product, I'm pretty sure it's just lowlife scum fishing for a refund.

Hi. Great advice. I never take things personally. If someone gives me a review, Great. If not, so what. If they don't give me a 5 star review, so what. I don't waste time on it, then again I'm as old as dirt as they say 😂

I just thought of an offshoot of this topic you could make a video about on this or your other channel. Customer service related...😊 I occasionally see this when reading about interactions with customers, but in responding to reviews as well. Occasionally a seller will read some emotion into a written message or comment that isn't necessarily there. For example sometimes being succinct is interpreted as hostile, when all you know this the way the customer writes or they are in a hurry. In written communications unless somebody explicitly writes that they are happy/angry/sad, or uses something like an emoticon, it's necessary to read a communication as neutral, otherwise it can lead to escalation even if there was no negativity to start with. Its also good to remind oneself that how we interpret emotions in any communications is incredibly subjective. If we are having a bad day a joke someone says can very quickly feel insulting, even if there is no malicious intent!
