The proper term is not 'acclimation', it is called Olfactory Adaptation. We acclimatise to a smell we are around after a certain period of time until we are desensitised to it to clear our senses for any new or unfamiliar smells. It is thought we evolved to have this trait so we can smell if a predator is near wherever our home was when we were hunter-gatherers.

I’m close to someone that when they were a baby, had no teeth and was not even on solid foods yet, had very bad breath. It turns out he was not able to process the formula he was getting. This did not get better as he got older. Docs took the tonsils out and some of those folds in the back of his throat. This finally helped. Its not about your teeth, tongue, and gums. Its about those things and the food you eat along with other anatomical structures in the back of the mouth. If your someone that also has bad allergies with constant mucus, this traps bacteria and food particles which make things worse. Its not always someone fault when they have bad breath and like this doctor says, they may not even know it. We have to be kind enough to tell some one in the kindest way possible that they might have a problem.

@Kevin Wilmore I had mine out at 56yrs. I'm THRILLED to be rid of them. I have wonderful breath now and no more infections!! I have to admit, that was quite a miserable week though- afterward. Turns out I responded well to pain medication (some people hate it)- and this particular Dr wasnt afraid to give me enough which seems to be an issue these days with the war on drugs etc. It is an easy enough surgery, its just that the recovery for the first week is quite painful honestly. When children have tonsils removed, the connection from the tonsil to the throat is very small so its not a big deal- when an adult has it done, the connection is very large and leaves a large hole to heal. Take care of yourself prior to surgery and drink well made bone broth and keep your protein up afterwards (I swear it helped me). Best of luck.

His daughter was really lucky tbh, I had the same issue at school, was picked on for it a lot to the point my worrying about it affected my schooling, I brushed my teeth between each lesson, carried round mouthwash and toothpaste to put in my mouth to cover the smell and still people complained but I couldn't smell it, To make it worse I'd get home for my family to bully me for it too, parents included, Eventually found out years later after worrying my whole life that it could be tonsil stones but I couldn't see any, a doctor said to just brush teeth more so I've been doing it for years still unresolved although no one Bully's me anymore but that's because I'm careful, i don't talk in the direction of people and so on, Every now and then I get a hint of the smell so I know it's there, then tonight by chance I coughed and up came a stone, the smell was undeniable and so intense that I finally knew for certain it was down to tonsil stones and not me not brushing enough, So the past hour I've been searching how to eliminate them, never knew the salt water thing so starting that immediately along with everything else, will update on results in a week or two if I notice an actual difference. Really annoyed the doctor convinced me it wasn't tonsil stones, I would have seen a dentist but where I live in the UK it's impossible to see one without a stupid amount of money as NHS dentists are impossible to find, not seen a dentist since I was 12 so been alone on the bad breath combatting but glad I finally have my cause and several solutions, I can hopefully stop worrying and spending stupid amounts of money on toothpaste etc, now I'll use toothpaste like a regular person not all the time lol.

He's right about the oxygen. But what he's not saying is that you can purchase a $1 bottle of hydrogen peroxide at the dollar store!!!!! Use 1 part water, 1 part hydrogen peroxide. Swish around your mouth for 30 sec to 1 min. Boom! This should work for most people. However, if you have a gut, gums, metabolic issues, or the like, you must resolve those issues to get the best result. Also, I would not use it several times a day, or even everyday, for that matter, and you may want to add more water, less peroxide if you experience sensitivity. Hope this helps someone.💜

I thought I had deviated septum, but many people said they did the surgery and that still didn't help them, turned out the culprit was chronic inflammation, caused possibly by some lectins like gluten, or diary products.. Did the surgery really help you?

Brush your tongue or use a tongue scraper after brushing your teeth. I’ve been doing this for decades and it removes most of the bacteria that cause bad breath. You should do this to help improve your overall health as well. Germs from the mouth have been found to contribute to plaque in the arteries. Brush even before you drink or eat anything in the morning (even water). The health of your mouth is directly related to your overall health.

Gargle using warm salt and water make sure you gargle in the back where your tonsils are really good a couple of times and be consistent with doing this every day. Also, I Gargle with a mixture of peroxide and warm water 3x a week getting back there in the tonsils area and I also brush my teeth Without toothpaste too after gargling, then I use toothpaste afterwards as a freshener. ....if you are consistent for at least 2 weeks, I guarantee you will see results but you have to be consistent. *Bonus- I keep my tooth brush in water and peroxide and that's what I dry brush with but be sure to change the solution everyday...peroxide cost little to nothing. * I forgot to add also that I do gargle with a mint flavored mouthwash from the dollar store before I start the earlier process I mentioned. It does have alcohol in it but it works- it helps loosen up all that bacteria and plaque. I know it's a lot of steps but trust me it's worth it and it works.

Been fighting with breath and mouth hygiene for years. Till a true dentist told me this. 1. Use normal peroxide 1 part 2 parts water. 2. Floss two three times a week. ( if you don't use peroxide need more times) 3. When you floss if blood comes out is good you need to do it till no blood comes. 4. After each floss especially you mouthwash with peroxide water mix for about 30 seconds pushing liquid though teeth spaces.. You will feel right away the change. And your dentist will see the result.. Most Dentist don't want you to know this simple solution. Your teeth will always look white as in toothpaste ads... You won't need to brush that hard or long with this method... If you start young, you probably won't get cavities or very few... Few things I repent of my life luckily, but this is one of not knowing this sooner in my life and knowing more about sugar (even though I never ate that much) being the venom that kills us all slowly...hope it helps other people , dentist are too expensive, cheers.

Keep in mind it's not always dependant on a person brushing, flossing... Remember, pure oxygen/clean Air is the best solution for chronic bad breath. Meaning if a person lives in sub-par housing with plumbing issues (sewer gas) that can cause bad breath no matter how well the individual might take care of their oral hygiene since foul sewer gas displaces clean air/oxygen. There are various causes of bad breath not everything is contributed to poor oral health. Bad diet, unhealthy air quality, etc all major facets.

@@angelofmery21 I agree. I used to have very bad breath, about 25 years ago. I’m lucky as I’ve never had a cavity, so it wasn’t from rotten teeth. It is now 2021 and this is what I do. I have been buying Therabreath since the late 90’s. It has really helped. As well, and perhaps more importantly, I do the following. 1. I bought an electric toothbrush. I chose a Sonic care and use it twice a day. It is also indestructible, as it is 25 years old and still charges fine. 2. I buy plastic tounge scrapers from the dollar store. Every day I scrape off a good dollop of gunk off my tounge. 3. I get packages of floss picks from the drug store or dollar store. I find the picks much easier to use than standard floss, and floss twice a day. 4. I recently discovered dental picks, which are little plastic sticks with brushes on the end, like pipe cleaners if anybody can relate to pipe cleaners these days. I find these get a lot of gunk from between my teeth. 5. I Use a water pick. I got this about three years ago, and use it power wash my mouth (Teeth and gums) After I’ve done all the flossing, inter-dental picking, tongue scraping and tooth brushing. 6. At the end of all that, I swish around a very small amount of Thera breath. It may seem like overkill, but once you get the habit, it takes me less than five minutes twice a day. I also go to the dentist twice a year. The dentist pokes in my mouth for about two minutes, compliments me on my teeth and hands me over to my hygienist. She still manages to scrape off a lot of tartar. But I’m still cavity free and have a nice smile, healthy gums and NO BAD BREATH at age 67.

A huge thing that will help your mouth and teeth is use a good waterpik/water flosser, you will see that even after flossing your teeth really well, then using the water flosser, you will still have food that comes out into the sink. Water flossers help your gums so much, wish I would have started using one when I was a little kid!

okay, i am going to tell people something they don't know. I suffered terribly from this disease. that's what i call it. i did lots of research. I actually used this and it did not work for me. when i said i had good oral hygiene was on point. no dentist, no dental hygienst could help me. i cried, and cried and cried. i found out that MY SINUSES, which i knew i had a bad sinus issue, was the cause. my sinuses would drip like crazy. probably because i have a small zoo at home. a dog and 2 cats. a dental hygienst told me she suffered too. she uses flonase. i bought flonase but it didn't help either. the reason why it didn't work was because u have to use it everyday at about the same time, brush your teeth, scrap your tongue. i have done this for about a month now and i feel so confident that my breath is so much better. i knew it was my sinuses but i thought i couldn't do anything about it. so people, if u have bad sinuses dripping choking u at night, that could be your problem. in the morning i brush, scrap, blow my nose and then use my flonase and i am good. i will tell u i spent plenty of money on this and it did not help. if u don't have bad sinuses maybe it will help. floss your teeth. u can smell the dental floss too. but please scrape your tongue, brush with toms maine toothpaste and use flonase everyday. and i will say i suffered for YEARRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. MORE THAN 20. FIRST i didn't know. when i became aware of my problem i just thought i was doomed to have bad breath. and i am too sexy to have bad breath. good luck hope this helps at least one person.

I’m a type 1 diabetic, and take a few meds to prevent migraines, and my mouth is usually really dry. I’m acutely aware that my breath can smell, and I never trust it. I ask my boyfriend on occasion, but it’s usually just in the mornings, because I take a lot of precautions during the day. Sugar-free gum is a good thing for people with a dry mouth; it helps the mouth produce saliva. :)

@@sheelathackorbhaga7871 OTC don't help me either anymore - only when I take them together with migraine medication. If you have migraines, then a class of drugs called "triptans" might help you during an episode. I take one called Rizatriptan for my migraines - but you can only take that one at most 9 times a month. If you "only" suffer from chronic headaches, which I also did before treatments, then it can become pretty complicated to treat, because there can be so many causes for it. It's a lot of trial and error to try different meds and doses - it can take months or years to find a treatment that works. The drug that has helped me the most is a muscle relaxant called Tizanidine (I take 2 mg every night) for the tension in my head, neck and shoulders. I also get injected with Botox in those same tense muscles every 3 months (I get injected in my forehead, sides and back of my head, as well as neck and shoulders). That has worked wonders both for tension headaches and preventing many migraines episodes. To prevent more migraine episodes I also take a medication called Amitriptyline (10 mg every night), which is mostly used for depressions, but also works for preventing migraines. And I take a medication called Lamotrigine (200 mg in the morning and 200 mg at night). That medication is usually used for epilepsy and sometimes for mood disorders (bipolar in particular), but sometimes works for preventing migraines as well. You might not need as an extensive treatment as me, but very few things worked for me, and this was the treatment my doctor and I found that worked the best for me, after 3 years of trying to find something that would help me. I would suggest finding a neurologist to help you, or get a referral from your doctor to a neurologist. They know more about treating pain disorders than almost any other type of doctor. If your doctor won't give you a referral, then you need to consider finding another doctor who will help you. There is no need to suffer if there is help out there. :)
