Why don't you use a heat gun or torch? Not only do they pop bubbles, but they also help thin the paint to allow additional cells to develop. A dirty cup is called that because you pour your paint layers instead of gently stacking the layers paint in the cup. You can't use thinner mixed paints or your colors will definitely mix. If you look at your paintings and see red and white, as an example, side by side, and you see pink where they touch your paint is too thin. I really like the second painting. Copper just pops.

I only use a torch when I really want a lot of cells in my pours or over certain areas where I want the cells to pop. If I am using different brands and types of paints, cells will almost always form without having to use a torch. I guess it is personal preference. Also, there are some types of pouring mediums that create a lot of bubbles. I will ALWAYS use a torch when using these pouring mediums to pop those pesky bubbles. Thanks for clarifying what a dirty pour is. I didn’t explain it that well 😔 . And Yes, when doing these types of pours where all your colors mix together, it is very important to use a thicker paint consistency. In this case, this didn’t matter that much because the colors I chose don’t really turn muddy when mixed together.

Total beginner here. What do you do to create the cells?

There are many ways to create cells. One of them is the type of pouring medium along with the types of paints you use. In this case, using floetrol as the pouring medium as well as some metallic paints from different brands is what helped create some cells. You can also create cells using silicone oil.

@@ArtasiaLand so the cells are really the different fluids refusing to mix??

@@osu9400 it’s the different densities of the paints that make some paints rise to the surface and some sink to the bottom. That is what causes the cells. In other cases, it is the chemical reactions happening between the ingredients, additives, and pouring medium used in the paints.
