Walton Hall Golf Course - Warrington - Cheshire

Спорт

Walton Hall Golf Course is one of the finest municipal courses in the northwest region. The grand, 6638-yard, par-72 parkland course meanders through the mature trees of the Higher Walton estate, climbing to provide fine views across the Cheshire countryside and Warrington.
Whilst presenting a challenging course, wide fairways and large greens allow all abilities to enjoy the surroundings, with the long, open-hole par-5s, and dog-leg par-4s offering enjoyable tests for long hitters.
Walton Hall’s original 9-hole municipal golf course opened in May 1970. The course was subsequently extended to provide the full 18-holes and redesigned by David Thomas and Peter Alliss - reopening in June 1975.
The Higher Walton estate was originally acquired in 1812 by Edward Greenall - son of the founder of the brewing firm Greenall Whitley. The hall, gardens and parkland were sold to Warrington Borough Council in 1941 by Edward Greenall’s great-grandson, the 2nd Lord Daresbury (also called Edward). During the war officers were billeted in the hall, and the outbuildings were used by troops. The gardens opened to the public on 19th May 1945, 11 days after VE day.
