Walter Reed Says Catholic Services Will Resume After Priests Told to 'Cease and Desist'
Walter Reed National Military Medical Center officials say Catholic pastoral services will resume at the military veteran's hospital after it told Franciscan priests to stop ministering during Holy Week last month.
The priests from the Holy Name College Friary in Silver Spring, Maryland, had ministered to service members and veterans hospitalized at Walter Reed, a renowned medical facility in nearby Bethesda, for 20 years.
Walter Reed said it notified the Franciscans in March that their contract would not be renewed, and that another bidder for the new contract had been selected - Mack Global LLC, a government contractor.

I am a disabled retired veteran and a Roman Catholic. Two weeks ago I underwent major surgery at Cincinnati VA. The day of surgery the Catholic priest visited me after the procedure and gave me his blessing and prayed with me. I can not begin to tell you what that act of kindness meant to me. Cincinnati VA doctors, nurses, staff, facilities are world class, second to none. I am home now and will recover, thanks in part to that Catholic Priest and the VA Cincinnati staff.

Of all the things that our United States government needs to do, meddling in the spiritual lives of our service men and women and veterans is clearly not one of them nor is it appropriate. When our service members and veterans are hospitalized, they need prayers, sacraments, and spiritual guidance from their pastors and if they are Catholic, they should be allowed to receive that from priests. Spiritual care is not like buying tires or a pallet of tomatoes, they can’t just choose a vendor that is a dollar cheaper for the contract. They need to consider the needs and constitutional rights of these service members to practice their religion and receive the care that is right. Thank you for sharing this story.

It is not about 'meddling', it IS about breaking the law of the Constitution. We will continue on this path to the destruction of America.
It is important for all followers of Jesus whether Protestant or Catholic to see this for what this act is, an attack on the Body of Christ and to not allow their own bias to blind them to this fact. All followers of Jesus are under attack by this corrupt and increasingly secular government.

I served in the military. Without favoring one or the other it should be available and coincide with their religion.

AMEN ,it sounds Sinister to me.
A red flag will be if they replace the Catholic priests with Anglicans. That would make an agenda pretty clear. To a secular person, there may not appear outwardly to be a difference, but to a Catholic, that difference is an absolute game-changer.
How can a "secular" for profit entity provide religious pastoral care for a Roman Catholic or a Christian of any denomination? It can't keyword "secular".
Walter Reed is way out of line! The Army didn’t mind Catholics when they were sacrificed. ✝️

Sorry...but no one should get paid for these services. I'm a devout Christian but having to "contract" a church to do services or minister is not only wrong it directly conflicts with everything about being Christians and pastors. If the Catholic church cannot raise the funds to help with this then they can stick it.

@@FRN2013 How? All religions as a whole are just fairy tales. There is no god. End the catholic church and your protestant divisions or "denominations" as you like to call them, will dry up and die as with other religions, maybe for the exception of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church
