Sometimes watching Jim is a masterclass in fast driving. He drives fast here, too, but where he passes another car is a result of the crushing speed of the M8F, it seems like the rest are just cruising. What a vicious sound. Wonderful. Thank you.

The combination of the staggering horsepower, torque, and dog box transmissions made these cars an absolute animal to drive. I grew up going to Laguna Seca in the heyday of the Can Am and Trans Am era. It was a wonderful time in racing, albeit pretty dangerous especially for the Can Am drivers. Hearing these cars live defies description. R.I.P. Jim, and Godspeed. Thank you for sharing your talent and passion for Motorsports with us.

For a 50 year old car it’s ridiculous how quick it gets to 150mph!

I attended two CanAms at Mid-Ohio, won by Denny Hulme and Jackie Stewart, respectively. I worked in F1 with JYS, and I was once a fly on the wall during a conversation between Denny and David Hobbs. I doubt you’ll ever find better footage from inside a world-beating McLaren CanAm car than what you’ll see right here.

My dad drove one of these beasts. Formula Libre all over again. Those straight cut timing gears sound like a supercharger at idle. I got to sit in his M8F 7 M8E all the time as a kid. Like a big overpowered go-kart. When the 917 came out, that was it. The end.

Now THAT'S the way to drive a McLaren M8, A through FP!!! The car was built to be driven the way Jim Pace flies it - aggressively and quick, but smooth and calculated. RIP!

Search KIC 2009 for great footage of Jim driving the black M8F. He has left us some of the best onboard race footage ever. I should say not greatest quality but a great drive from 13 years ago.

Awesome vid! what were the other cars? I couldve very well saw that actual car race at Mosport in 1971. My buddy down the street big brother took us to the 1971 Can Am . I was 9 yrs old. I thought it was AWESOME! My first live motor race. According to my mom I talked about it for weeks. Denny Hulme first, Peter Revson second both in factory McLearens

Fantastic. Note: For me at least, the sound is all on the Left channel. Using the right earbud only will not get you the sound. And it is certainly music to the ear!

Love all the Jim Pace videos. He drives these un-replaceable cars as they were meant to be driven. But... I was at the 2016 Mitty and never seen that McLaren on the track or in the pits like with all the other pit queens.

2016? Why is this such poor video quality? I've seen some of Jim Pace's videos, and they are much better IQ than this one. This a "reprint?"
