It’s amazing how much the two friends loved and cared about each other. You can see tears in Jack’s eyes at the end.

RIP Walter Matthau (October 1, 1920 - July 1, 2000), aged 79 And RIP Jack Lemmon (February 8, 1925 - June 27, 2001), aged 76 You both will always be remembered as legends.

Matthau makes my life better every time I watch one of his movies. Together, they were a treasure!

Two originals. Never took themselves too seriously like many of today's actors.

I know what characters

By sheer chance these two shot a movie scene right across the street from my home back in the 90's when they did Grumpy Old Men. I was really struck at how completely different they were off camera. Matthau was very gregarious and engaging, Lemmon extremely quiet and to himself. Yet the scene would start and there you saw the absolute magic these men created together. What talent and such a treat to see it all happen!

Magic time.

I actually met Mathau in Catania Airport in Sicily when I was stationed there with the Air Force. He sat with us on the plane to Rome and he shared that he was a B-17 waist gunner and radio operator with 35 missions during WWII. He said his CO was Jimmy Stewart. He was a nice guy.

Oh wow. That is awesome. Yeah, I heard he was a down to earth guy. Well I never met Matthau, but I DID meet Mr. Leslie Neilson. Leslie was shooting a Christmas movie (in July) in the mall next to my building where I lived in Toronto. I was a scorching hot day. I was dripping sweat and when I walked up to the main entrance of the mall, it was decorated with Christmas wreaths and lights... then when I walked in, the crew was setting up Santa's Village. I thought "Oh my GOD! What was in the WEED I just smoked in the parking lot!!??" And there he was, getting fitted into a Santa costume! So I walked up to him and I said "Aren't you Leslie Neilson?" and he said "As far as I know!" LOL. He was just as hilarious in person and he was very gracious, and he was kind enough to give me an autograph after he got suited up as jolly old Saint Nick!

This was from 1988, a lifetime achievement and then goes on to make arguably his BEST stuff.

I had a friend of 30 plus yrs like this......I miss him everyday. Its impossible to have a friendship like that today.

I so miss these beautiful dudes. I don't think we'll see their like again. Stay together in the next realm, guys, so we can all catch up to you and give you one long hug!!!

Two legends in the game. Two names who I don't think get mentioned nearly enough today. Both are missed tremendously.

My first exposure to both Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau was seeing them both in "The Odd Couple" when the movie had aired on TV a long time ago. I was instantly hooked. There will never be another more entertaining pair than these two legends. RIP gents and thanks for the cinematic memories. 😎🙏

Two of the very finest actors of the twentieth century.

These 2 guys Matthau and Lemmon were 2 of a kind. Yet now 2024 their friendship never died. These 2 were hilarious in the movies they made. Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon did great movies. Although at this time back then i was only 4 years.

You can really feel the deep love, respect and admiration here between Matthau and Lemmon. These men are National Treasures and I feel fortunate to have grown up in an era where I was able to witness them in real-time performing their magic on and off the screen. They are greatly missed

I agree. I was fortunate enough to be alive during their latter years and my grandmother was a huge fan. She had a number of their films on VHS and we'd watch them all the time on the holidays. The Grumpy Old Men movies were a personal favourite.

Matthau and Lemmon are buried next to each other, and across the way is Wilder.

When Matthau got to the Pearly Gates, St Peters asked him where his partner was. Matthau replied, 'You mean that lowlife asswipe eggsucker who's always hanging around those kinky stripbars? He's too dumb to die. And if he did, he'd be at the other gate, south of here!' RIP Gentlemen. Amen

Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau , When I see them I am ready to cry , they made a big difference in show biz , so human and so professionals , really dedicated to their acting with so much of everything and more....

Love both these men so much. Also they did magic everytime they acted together. You can tell their bromance was real

These guys are probably my favorite comedy team. I enjoy their individual movies, but as a duo they're an absolute riot. And their friendship, both on screen and off was very pure and touching. Both Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are a national treasure.

God bless these two. When you flip through channels, there are certain actors that make you choose to remain on that channel. These actors are the comedians. No matter what the movie they are featured on, they will always brighten your time and win your heart. Mr Mathou and Mr Lemmon were two of these precious entertainers. And like all humble comedians, they will never know how vital they are to humanity. Once again, god bless these two.

These two were masters at walking the line between comedy and tragedy. Hell, Mathau was in Pelham 123, the man can do action.

You're damn right he is in both of them together are absolutely wonderful comedians and God rest their souls because those are also some of the old greats and some of the best comedians and actors in history

Apparently, Walter & Jack had some sort of almost "metaphysical" connection because one died within a year of the other.

Sure miss those guys and the quality and class they represent

Man...what high-quality people...what great men and women. What amazing times!

I have so many Matthau and so many Lemmon movies. I just watched Irma La Douce for the first time. I've seen The Apartment several times.

Some actors are good in comedies, other are better in dramatic roles. Lemmon was one of the few who was excelled in both.

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau have such a tremendous love and respect for each other and to see them together on screen is always a great pleasure. They're one of the best comedy duos in all of cinema history.

I heard about Walter Matthau during the time he played Oscar Madison on Broadway. It was said that he was very unpretentious and never played the big time star. He was very friendly with all of the workers in the the theater. The ones who had to change sets or clean up. One of them said he was a mensch.

You will never see this calibre of talent ever again.

The best couple in movies, hails! from spain to both awesome actors now in the sky with Wilder.

They are truly missed. I loved the "Odd Couple" and "Grumpy Old Men." I fell in love with Matthau again in "Hang Up." They had to have a strong connection because Lemmon died a year later. It's touching how Lemmon never left Matthau side before he passed.

The outtakes for grumpy old men were the best. I remember one he was revving up the boat motor and it wasnt moving. "Hey dickhead I'm stuck" lol

Burgess as the grandpa was hilarious. "ive been to Hawaii" OH YEAH which island? "cmoniwannalayya" 🤣🤣
