Walt Disney - A Cowboy Needs A Horse - 1956

Фильм және анимация

While tucked in his bed, an ordinary boy dreams of being a cowboy. His transformation, accompanied by a catchy tune and the addition of a horse, a hat, spurs, and so on, is quite appealing. His adventures in the West with Indians and bandits are not as captivating, but the fun conclusion redeems it.

This was the short my dad ALWAYS talks about. It was introduced to Mexico in the mid 70’s and it was his first exposure to Disney. In our recent visit to Disneyland, we were in a shop in Frontierland and they played this video. He cried bc it took him back to his childhood. I’m so glad I found it on KZread to play it for him

The range of emotions I feel watching this. Remembering my childhood. How cartoons like this would instill hope and creativity and dreams in young children. How a cartoon short like this could never be made today. My gosh. Didn’t think a 6 minute Disney short would make me cry tonight - but here I am. Wow.

I used to watch this repeatedly on my Disney sing along vhs when I was a toddler at my nan and grandads house in the 90s. I have just watched it for the first time since then and I was instantly transported back to my nan and grandads home where I felt the safest and most loved (and still do now) I am lucky enough to have been able to send them the video on WhatsApp they are in their 70s now and still give me the same love and comfort as they have done all my life. Watching this video took me back to when the world was “good” and when I was care free, I remembered every word and scene, it has made me very emotional but is very therapeutic and I feel so grateful I am still able to have the two people in my life who made me into the person I am today. Life really does move so fast. Memories and loved ones are the only true meaningful things in life ❤️ Thank you so much and lots of love to the person who uploaded this ❤

I’m sure there’s an official name; but back in the 50’s as this song was from a Disney Cartoon in 1955/56, it wasn’t “choir” per se, you see, the old vintage vocal music for jingles and vintage songs such are called “quartets.” Or Quartet Music. While originally Acappella, in the early and mid 20’s and 30’s Record companies , along with “in house music studios” and American culture they combined it with Big Band and Orchestra. Which Lead to that 40’s and 50’s feel we love. I’d call this Orchestral Quartet music. Think Andrews Sisters, InkSpots, or any other music group that utilizes harmony and slow music pace. Er, tempo. Also remember, the 50’s were the golden age of America, a lot was very gimmicky back then so you’re also hearing blues, Old Country music style, some light stoicism in the music, very comforting. The 50’s was a comforting time.

The little boy in the cartoon makes me think of my 5-year-old, part Native American son asleep in the other room. Defend yourself from any group of people that would shoot an arrow into your hat and encircle you. Use reason, smoke a bubble pipe with their leader, then go after the REAL bad guys who hold up stagecoaches and tie up little girls. Give 'em hell, son. Your spurs, song, boots, rope, hat and horse are all achievable in real life.

Me too! I even had a feeling the very first time when I saw from Disney's Sing Along Heigh Ho that there appeared to be a huge chunk missing that we didn't see during the stint...and there was. I never have seen the cartoon in it's entirety. The song is definitely a head-sticker too! Thanks for posting this! xx

I miss old Disney. Their newer stuff is still alright, but the older ones felt more "free".

i so remember watching these as a kid.. when i have kids they will NOT be watching the crap on TV nowadays. I'll try my best to get all of the old classics....these vids taught children things that Hannah Montana/Spongebob/other crap could never live up to. This brought back wonderful childhood memories. What an awesome dream for a child!

I love that cartoon. And I must say I'm quite happy to see numerous comments here complaining about the way it shows Native Americans ! It's good to see that people take them more in consideration. But on the subject, and to follow a comment I read, I don't think these should be censured. Censure is never good. The cartoons showing Native American / Black people through the racist eyes of past periods are to be viewed with the knowledge that these are past time. They are useful if we can watch 'em and cringe. It means we "modern" people are on the right track.

Got to love idiots who are like 'it makes American Indians look bad" TT__TT it's obviously not meant to realistically portray anyone -_ - unless you think kidnappers are just fat dunderheads that tip toe around like harmless creepers. I mean where are the people bitching that making the bed become a horse that still looks like a thing devalues animals and treats them like possessions? XD Seriously people need to get over themselves. There's nothing racist about it. It is fact that there were tribes that would attack both white people and other tribes. Some tribes were notorious for wiping out other Indian tribes.
