walnut lantern and jigs

Making Walnut Frontiersman lanterns from Trees to Lumber then the process of milling them on jigs. This is the middle process of milling the parts and using jigs to get all the extras to fit. I made 16 of these as a start and ended up with 14 of them after the culls were removed. I would guess I have made over a hundred of these lanterns over the past 15 years. This kit was available in pine. So, I don't make pine lantern kits but do make them out of cherry, cedar, walnut, oak and mahogany.
During this process of making these my CNC was losing one of 3 axes of control. So in the middle of this project, I had to replace the cable feeding one of the stepper motors. Also replaced the router with a new Bosch router and had one solid carbide 1/4" bit from Menards break inside the collet.
Finished my 4 lanterns with my FCF name and 2024 and some FCF logs carved into the top. Used Helmsman spar varnish for my finish and thinned it 15% with mineral spirts and sprayed on many light coats.
The Tinder box that I called a match box will house a flint and steel and a candle with some char materials for lighting the lanterns with. I figure one set of 4 lanterns in a nice protective box with a flint and steel kit in the bottom of one of the lanterns will be really cool.
