Walnut and Birch Bowl
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I turned a walnut bowl with a segmented rim. I wanted to have the dark color of the bowl mix with a light colored rim. My thought was to do a zigzag pattern, between the two woods. What I ended up doing was to make each segment contain two triangles of walnut with birch infilling. I wanted to shape the bowl itself with a rounded rim to contrast the sharpness of the segmented pattern.

Stunning bowl Frank, and another thoroughly enjoyable video. Take care Mike
Love your films! Love the way you don't have to be loud and obnoxious or ramble on for forever about all the unnecessary details like in other videos. Simple, elegant, creative and to the point! Many thanks : )
I'm envious, Frank, of your shop, your tools, your creativity and your skills. Don't ever stop making videos!
Great remodel on an old bowl. Your wife is 100% right about the cats, i will have to make one now as my wife loves Cats.
Frank, You never cease to amaze me with your projects or your ingenuity. Regards, Bob
This is my favorite of all the bowls you have turned. It is simply stunning in the last shot where it is shiny. Thanks for taking the time to create the videos in the way you do. They are very interesting
You are the king of woodwork, love your stuff.
Frank, I have zero interest in woodworking myself, but I love your videos. Never thought I'd catch myself saying "Aw yisss, a new woodworking video!" Rad cat bowl, btw~

That's great to hear.
Excellent bowl Frank! I quite enjoyed the contrast of the sharp pattern and the rounded lip of the bowl. It came out great. Thanks for the video.
This gentleman is why he's a genius. Multiple table saws makes things like this so much easier. Beautiful work Frank
Frank; Thanks for posting on /r/turning! We love having you stop by! Beautiful work as always!
Thank you Frank. I always watch your new videos before the others that pop up in my subscription area.
Unbelievable work Frank. You are a master. Many thanks for sharing your techniques and ideas.
Lovely bowl, and the birch gives a real nice contrasting wood, especially as it has no tendency to darken over the time as many other woods. Thank you for sharing this awesome design element Frank. Greetings from Good Old Germany Peter

Another Masterpiece made with your Hands. ;-) Greetings from Germany, Thuringia. M.Sommer
outstanding piece of work. Can't wait for your next project. Just a note, I really like your animation of pieces...a great chuckle. It must take a lot of work so I wanted you to know that I, for one, appreciate the effort!
great work as always, and good looking bowl. I like the (dis)appearing cat ears idea--they like hiding and stalking! and, it's reminiscent of your "Kilroy was here"-style profile pic! thanks for the methodology about avoiding the end grain. I'll have to study up once I can retire and take on the hobby!
Thank you for your work Frank. Yet another very inspirational and beautifully made video and bowl. You are so creative with your bowl concepts. Thanks again.
I realize this comment is over 3 years late, but I like the gloss of that tung oil finish. I think it really brings out the colors and grain of the wood, and it adds a really pro look to the piece. Beautiful work.
I just discovered your channel and I really like this project. The bowl looks incredible! Thank you for sharing.
This is one of my most favourite bowls you made.. It looks really thick and solid, same as the big chunk of wood its made of. And that gentle rim you topped it with just make it very elegant. Great work.

Great clip! The bowl is real, real nice. Thnx!
Your videos are terrific, Frank. Coincidentally, Tim Yoder is running a segment next week on our turning page about his method for turning a walnut bowl. Nice to see the synergy! -Dan
Beautiful work as always!
If you have limited open time, but lots to glue up, try using a mini paint roller kit with a foam sleeve for very quick and even application. I used to work in a guitar factory. Works great. Love your content mate!
As always great work and great video.
Wonderful job as always!
Great bowl. Great video production.
I'm not a wood worker, but watching your video's makes me want to be.
Beautiful job Frank
Frank! I discovered your videos just this week. I really enjoy watching how you work. The art pieces you produce are wonderful! If I ever come to the states and I have time to pass by Oregon, I would to stop by and see how you work! Go on man! It's really enjoyable!
How beautiful wood working!
That turned out really well Frank. Sean

Been re watching all of the bowls, miss these videos and looking forward to more bowls and maybe some experiments with filling gaps and cracks with resin
I discovered your channel yesterday and I've been binge watching like a maniac. Amazing work really. Amazing editing skills too. Keep it up, Frank! Love from Jordan.
Wow amazing work my friend!
That is a beautiful bowl!
God I love your stop motion :) Very nice work!
Very nice.... great piece.
Wow, Frank, this might be my favorite bowl you've done so far.
Outstanding video as always. You mention your fear of the bowl coming off the lathe and breaking. Somehow I think you would just make the parts into a new bowl as I remember seeing you do in the past.
Beautiful job Frank--thanks for posting! (Still waiting to see the Craftsman 6x2 planer in action.) =Brian=
Nice bowl the inlay rim really looks great.
looks Great Frank!!
