Yes, indeed! This video popped up on my YT home page and 'walking with a camera' is what I do, too, so had to take a look. Walk first, camera second some days, camera first, walk second on other days. You have a good vibe, and this is a good idea. Nicely done!

This is sooooooooo good! Loaded with gems to keep creatives healthy and thriving. On my walks the side channels of my mind are always working through rough spots that need fixed in something I'm writing or thinking of new things to write about, but the part I notice is the present, the lighting, the sounds and smells in nature. When I get home and back to my projects, miraculously there is new material to work with. Thanks for posting this inspirational piece!

One of the best therapies I have found is to go to a place I'm very familiar with, and try to photograph it in a way I haven't done before. Maybe patterns in fallen leaves, or textures of tree bark, or geometric shapes of trails or bridges, etc... Maybe it's a sunny day with lots of interesting shadows, or an overcast day with soft light. I've found that I will get so engrossed in looking for interesting things to photograph that I'll lose track of time and completely forget any negative things in my life. It is such GREAT therapy! I've also met some interesting people along the way. Sometimes, when people see you with a camera, they like to stop and tell stories of when they used to photograph "back in the day", or maybe their grandpa gave them an old camera years ago and they have stories about that. I love to hear what people have done and where they've come from. Thanks for posting!

Fantastic video! This is the first time I’ve come across your channel. Great stuff. Similarly, I walk about 6 miles a day and always carry an old M mount 35mm manual focus. You’re so right about how it enables you to switch into a more considered and acute mindset of what’s around you. Abstract details and miniature “stories” suddenly come to the forefront. Thank you for posting. I’ve subscribed and really look forward to seeing more videos. (Lovely images too by the way 😊)

It’s nice to see a fellow wanderer. I do the exact same thing that you do in the exact same way except that I carry is a Sony RX 10 mark four. And you’re right, it helps the thought process of anything that might be going on, but it also relieves you of any ties except for the camera to notice things that otherwise would be passed by people in cars, bicycles, etc.

Wonderful wording on what carrying a camera in your hand while you're walking does for the mind. I've told friends that walking, hiking, or attending outdoor events with my camera at hand allows me to focus my mind, or let it wander, or get myself into another mindset. You name it, and getting out with a camera (any camera) is completely healthy. I love using an older basic lens (My fave right now is a knock off 24mm 1.8 I found on etsy a couple years ago. Fast, love the bokeh, still wide on my asp-c K-3 iii, and the build quality is still top notch. Loved the video, off to look for more of your content :) (after I hammer Subscribe).

Coming upon something like that is never easy. I, too, have seen a few. The last was a pedestrian hit by a vehicle, I had passed by them earlier in the evening and knew exactly who it was. The one before that was a downed motorcyclist, something that hit a little close as I ride as well. It's a sobering reminder that we are not invincible, we are not immortal. Thank you for sharing your story, and thank you for sharing your photography with us. I don't carry a camera other than my phone most of the time, but I do try to take a camera along more and more lately. Sometimes, my phone is adequate, they've gotten better and better over the years and I would say the image quality from my S22 is better than my last point-and-shoot, so there's that, but it's really not the same experience, is it?

I also walk regularly... only about 3 miles... mostly in my general neighborhood. I do not normally carry a camera because I've seen this route thirty days a month for three years. On the odd occasion that I walk some different route I will take a camera. This was a nicely done video. Mostly about thinking about the why and fun of photography with just a touch about the equipment. No matter what, we do like to hear some little bit about the cameras.... after all, we like cameras of all types. I think I need to get out more. I am glad you can find the time to put the trails and cameras to use.

Cool video. I mean, this is right up my street. I love walking aimlessly, camera in hand. So good for the mind and body. Love getting out on my mountain bike too….although walking is great, the bike can take you to so many more places much quicker. Love this vibe..sub'd👍

I really appreciate your eye. Nothing beats walking around with a camera, just to see what ya see -- but uff da, your "I'm just out for a walk" photos are levels beyond what I'm seeing. Inspires me to walk a little slower, maybe.

I see you’re using the L Mono D profile? I love how the center of the frame glows and the edges kind of fade away. I assume that’s done in your edit. Deep, rich tonality, not that scratchy high-contrast bs. Black and white can have so much depth when done right. Great images Ben!

Thank you sir. It's all from the lens. I shoot with that profile but then do my own edit to the raw, and I don't do very much. Thanks for the comments.

Loved your story and your very mindful landscapes. I’ve studied photography and practised the art for 30 years or more. I always carry a camera wherever I go and pretty much do the same as yourself, although I have trouble walking due to an arthritic condition, but as they say use it or lose it. You were such an inspiration in that video. Thank you. MICHAEL from Melbourne Australia

Great post. Thank you. Sometimes one gets lost in distractions that are helpful but aren’t creating or empowering, just relaxing you. These are good, great, but I’ve been reminded here that self-treatment can lead to active positive output, not just passive balance. At a few points I was sceptical, is he turning this into a “hidden” lens review - not. Thanks for not.

Police line tape. A body. I can certainly visualize that. Not just visualize, but, smell it, and even taste it, in the early morning air, too. (High humidity allows one to taste the air. Plenty of humidity, here along the Gulf Coastal Plain) From 2010 to very early 2018, I photographed crime scenes and crime victims, an added duty during the final years of my 33+ years of working night shift, as a first responder, for the tax payers. Let’s all take care, of ourselves, and each other. Well-done, thanks. Liked, and subscribed. I’ll add that it took me a while to re-learn to want to photograph things. For a while, I only photographed nature, and natural things. Then, I added the Leica M system, starting with a pre-owned 50mm Leica M lens. A weather-sealed Canon 100mm Macro L lens, with then-new AF tech, had been the optical “tool of my trade,” and using the best auto-focus tech of the time, in DSLRs, I specialized in photographing living, breathing, still-traumatized assault victims. Action “portraits,” action macro. So, well, after retirement, I needed something very different, to re-learn how to want to photograph people. Very much manual focus. Low-tech. Again, a well-done presentation. Thanks.

Thanks very much for taking the time to write this. The cool thing about photography is it’s not a destination, it’s a journey and way of being. Through the practice we learn more about ourselves and our place in the world. Good stuff.

Why would anybody carry a camera in their hand and not use neck-strap to help keep it from hitting the ground if something happens? One guy told me that using a neck-strap makes one look like a tourist. That doesn't even make sense. What if a person is carrying the camera in their hand and they trip and drop it? What if they need both hands to pick something up?
