⁴ᴷ Walking Tour of Manhattan, NYC - Broadway from Times Square to South Ferry

I walk Broadway from 49th Street in Times Square to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal in South Ferry. Broadway in Manhattan is one of the most popular streets in the whole world, featuring memorable sites such as Times Square, Union Square Park, the Flatiron Building, and Wall Street.
Filmed November 9, 2017
I walked Broadway again in April 2018 with a new camera with stereo microphone. You may see that version here: • ⁴ᴷ Walking Tour of Man...

    Only a suggestion, but binaural microphones would be nice in videos like these. Like in this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZHukzptyo5OYcdo.html I know they are super expensive tho :p

    This is how to make a "walking" video. The pace allows the viewer to take it all in as it smoothly moves along. If I watch this on a 70inch screen by an open window with the air coming in, I can imagine "being there". And the occasional, casual looking left or right or around or at a store window, etc... And the steadiness of it. Nicely done.

    I assume that the video was shot with a Go-Pro with the characteristic lens distortion. It is fairly easy to correct and gives the video a fair more natural look. I've also was able to convert the video to 3D (side by side) producing a very realistic result, the feeling of actually being there.

  • @ActionKid

    @ActionKid

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yes, it was shot with a GoPro in Wide mode. It has the lens distortion as you stated but I don’t think most people mind the view. It’s possible to correct the distortion but then the video would be downscaled to a smaller resolution.

    OMG I walk by Fulton St Center all the time but never went in, that's amazing. The fish-eye lens (is that what it's called?) doesn't really capture NY very well. Too much distortion. The city is so in-your-face, in this it bends away from you. Otherwise fun to watch.

  • @ActionKid

    @ActionKid

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes, the Fulton Center is pretty amazing. About $1.4 billion was put into its construction so something better show for it! As for the fish-eye lens, it does distort the city with its perspective but in exchange you get to see more of the city through the wide angle. There's always pros and cons.

    Surprised at the drone sound NYC makes. Does it hum like that in the real world? Or is that what the mike interprets from the traffic?

    I'm not sure what noise you're referring to. Keep in mind there's also wind noise and also noise from my Gimbal that my camera picks up.

    Yes. The "city hum" actually gives you energy when you go out and about. It dies down around 2 am and builds up again around 4 am. It's traffic sounds coming from a distance.

    I would Imagine it would drown me rather than energise as the biggest city I have been to is London and it's not that big. I suppose like everything once you are there it is not so loud. I do have hyperacusis so it would be kill or cure. I thought it must be traffic, the far mixing with the near and people making every type of noise you could imagine.

    Great job, but I'm sad. All the eccentric little clothing, music, book, etc. shops - gone. Now they're Starbucks, Duane Reades, and banks. I wish the young people here today could experience the NYC I knew a couple of decades ago. Where the smell of incense filled many streets, the conversations overheard were "only in New York" lol, and the "starving artists" weren't paying $4K a month for 1-bedroom apts. Oh well.

    Hey I’m from NZ and I was wondering where is Broadway? Idk if Broadway is a street or just a theatre so I’m kinda confused. Did you walk there in this video? Is there an official name for the street if it is one ? Ahah sorry for the questions

  • @ActionKid

    @ActionKid

    5 жыл бұрын

    Broadway is both the name of the street and the NYC theater industry. A “Broadway” theater refers to its size - a theater needs to fit more than 500 people to be considered “Broadway”.

    disturbs the sound of the wind. need a good external stereo microphone. or stick a thin layer of paralon on the microphone in GoPro, the microphone will blow out so windy, and everything will be better than usual.

  • @ActionKid

    Unfortunately the GoPro microphone adapter will make the gimbal unbalanced and it won't be able to work well :( And the GoPro has several microphones, not just one. Otherwise I don't really see a better solution.
