Walking the Somerset & Dorset Railway Part 1: Bath to Midford

Ойын-сауық

This video depicts the first in a series of walks that a friend and I made recently along sections of the old Somerset and Dorset Railway, where the trackbed has been converted into a footpath.
This first walk takes us from Bath Green Park to Midford, and back again, a distance of around 8 miles, along part of what is now the Two Tunnels Greenway.
To try and illustrate how things have changed since the line closed in March 1966, I have included a few colour photographs by Hugh Ballantyne, from his excellent book: 'The Somerset & Dorset Remembered Part 1 - Bath to Evercreech Junction'.
All of the photographs in this book (as well as in the equally excellent companion volume 'The Somerset & Dorset Remembered Part 2 - Highbridge to Bournemouth') are in colour and I wholeheartedly recommend anyone interested in the S&D, or in railways generally, buying a copy of both books!
I have also 'borrowed' a photograph by Norman Lockett from his and Mike Arlett's book 'The Somerset & Dorset in Colour'.
This is another publication that I fully recommend anyone buying, as it is also packed with many terrific photographs of this much-missed line and, as the title suggests, they are also all in colour!
