Since its construction in 1061 the Penglai Pavilion has been known as a 'fairyland' where emperors sought magical elixirs, where the Eight Immortals of Chinese mythology were said to have landed, and where mirages at sea are still seen.
Located 45 minutes from Yāntái at the northernmost tip of the Shandong peninsula, the structure is one of the Four Great Towers of China. There is a climb to the pavilion's cliffside perch, passing a number of temples and an ancient naval base, but its gorgeous sunrises and the strange mirages seen after heavy rains are worth the effort.

While there are numerous beaches in Yāntái, picturesque Zhifu Island combines lush vegetation and forests with isolated sandy beaches, excellent clam fishing, and rocky crags and cliffs that overhang the Bohai Sea.

Yantai Gold Beach is reputed as "the finest beach in North China" with its gentle slope, clean water, and soft sand. It is also one of the best natural bathing beaches in China.
Gold Beach, as its name implies, has golden and bright sand. The vast beach covers an area of 23.5 square kilometers. So you can easily find some open space to fully enjoy yourself. With some friends, you can even play beach football or volleyball there.
When the fiery sun rises from the east or sinks to the west, the sea becomes a magnificent picture bathing in the shining light. The golden waves, fishing sails, groups of seagulls and soft sand blend harmoniously in this picture, which is quite a poetic scene.
It is also one of the most beautiful moments when you can take some pictures of the scenery or yourself to save this memory.

Yangma Island is located in the north of Mouping District, Yantai, with a large area of 13.52 square kilometers. The island has a pleasant climate, which is not too cold in winter or too hot in summer, thus very suitable for leisure and vacation.
The island is characterized by rolling hills, lush trees, and horse sculptures. The sea surface in front of the island is wide and calm. The rocks behind the island are rugged and the waves are pounding on the bank.
It is suitable for sightseeing and hiking. The east end of the blue water is an excellent bathing beach, suitable for swimming, while the western end of the deep water has few waves, forming a good natural harbor.
The island is rich in sea cucumber, scallop, abalone, prawn, oyster, swan egg and other seafood, which is also a paradise for seafood lovers.

Yantai seems like a great place to visit and live in. Once again, this is a city that is racing to prosperity and modernity but still proud of its Chinese heritage. This historical area looks quite unique and very interesting. Great job Max! I just came back from China in March this year and I miss it so very much already. I hope that China will offer Visa-free visits for Canadians soon.

Foreign nationals from 54 countries are currently eligible for the 72/144-hour transit visa-free policies which are effective at 31 ports in 23 cities of 18 provinces in China. Canada is one of the 54 countries.

Therefore, one may visit the third country or region when the transit ends and book another ticket to a different third country and come back to China again with a new 144-hour visa-free transit. Of course, the 144-hour thing is like a free trial for first-time visitors with a limited time range. Some people may want to apply for a visa to stay longer afterwards.

I didn’t know wether the vlogger visited Yantai Hill on this trip or not as the real historic English colonial architectures are located on that hill. Otherwise, what you saw may actually be commercial and residential buildings designed with western architectural styles. FYI, after the Second Opium War, Yantai and several other Chinese cities were forced to be opened as commercial ports according to the Treaty of Tianjin. In the late 19th century and early 20th century, China was forced to sign humiliating and unequal treaties with several Western countries and Japan. It is written in Chinese middle school’s history textbooks and it is a period of history that the Chinese people will never forget. Therefore, it is better to be more considerate with the wording under such history background.

Apart from a few political loonies and their supporters, we Indians love China. India is a failing country with a bleak future, hence we are on the look out for fast developing countries around the world to look for jobs and residency. In case China need additional labour, we Indians are ready to move there and take up any job offered to us. Please offer us Chinese citizenship as well if the government can. 🙏
