🇬🇧 Walking in LIVERPOOL 4K, England

🇬🇧 Walking in LIVERPOOL 4K, England
Liverpool is a city and metropolitan borough in Merseyside, England. The population in 2019 was approximately 498,042. Liverpool is the ninth-largest English district by population, and the largest in Merseyside and the surrounding region. It lies within the UK's sixth-most populous urban area, and its metropolitan area is the fifth-largest in the UK with a population of 2.24 million.
Liverpool is the sixth-most-visited UK city. It is noted for its culture, architecture, and transport links. The city is closely associated with the arts, especially music; the popularity of the Beatles, widely regarded as the most influential music group in history, contributed to the city's status as a tourist destination. Since then, Liverpool has continued to produce many notable musical acts and record labels-musicians from Liverpool have produced 56 No. 1 hit singles, more than any other city in the world. Liverpool also has a long-standing reputation as the origin of various actors and actresses, artists, athletes, comedians, journalists, novelists, and poets. The city has the second-highest number of art galleries, national museums, listed buildings, and listed parks in the UK; only the capital, London, has more. The Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City includes the Pier Head, Albert Dock, and William Brown Street. In sports, the city is best known for being the home of Premier League football clubs Liverpool and Everton, with matches between the two being known as the Merseyside derby. The annual Grand National horse race takes place at Aintree Racecourse.
Several areas of the city centre were granted World Heritage Site status by UNESCO in 2004, and its collection of parks and open spaces has been described as the "most important in the country" by the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest. Its status as a port city has attracted a diverse population from a wide range of cultures and religions, primarily Ireland, Norway, and Wales. It is also home to the oldest black community in the UK and the oldest Chinese community in Europe. Natives and long-time residents of Liverpool are formally referred to as "Liverpudlians" but are more often called "Scousers", a reference to the form of stew made popular by sailors in the city and the most common name for the Liverpool accent and dialect. The city celebrated its 800th anniversary in 2007 and was named the 2008 European Capital of Culture, jointly with Stavanger, Norway.

I was born and raised in Liverpool, back in the 1950's and 60's, so I can well remember the city in it's hey-day. Back then, it was a busy, thriving port, with ships from all over the world, lined up, down at the Pier Head. The city centre streets would be filled with people, going about their daily work, or shoppers engrosed in their business. Lunchtime traders would be frantic trying to provide for office workers.and newspaper sellers would be rushed off their feet, selling the Liverpool Echo, and the Daily Post. It was a different world back then. Then the builders and planners moved in, and ripped the heart out of the city. Today, we're just left with the heartless shell of the place Livepool once was. The present day streets and buildings might look nice to tourists and those too young to remember, but I grieve for the once great and glorious City, Liverpool once was.

A lot of the rubbish buildings that went up after the war have been removed . Most of the great buildings in Liverpool were black with pollution and the streets were dirty and smelly. Many of Liverpool's fantastic buildings such as at the Albert Dock ( now Royal ) survived because there wasn't the money to knock them down before they fell down. Liverpool has more grade 1 and 2 listed buildings than any city in the country outside of London , as well as more Georgian houses than Bath . The idea that everything was wonderful when we were young is only correct if you ignore the negative side . Liverpool might have appeared to be a bustling city in the 1950's and 60's but we were all on pavements with traffic filled streets resulting in a high number of injuries and deaths to pedestrians. Liverpool's heyday was before WW2 . which is when the heart was ripped out of the city .

Liverpool had extensive tram system, but unfortunately it was closed in 1957. I hope one day it will be revived

Not unlike all the other Empires who seem to receive virtually no criticism , despite the fact that they killed considerable more people , as well as being involved in slavery longer and many times larger numbers. Get over it , as my mother did the Second World War despite losing so many family members . The British killed a fraction in a hundred years of what they lost in World War Two ( six years ) If not for the British we might all be part of The Great German Empire , a far less tolerant regime . It is interesting to note how much of Britain's old empire has been successful and are democracies as against those colonised by other nations .

@@p.j7992 Next you will be telling us that people in India are not racist . During the British Raj the number who died in massacres and inter state wars in India dropped dramatically. Just look at ' List of Massacres in India ' - Wikipedia . In Amritsar 379 were massacred by British Indian Army soldiers . While this is horrendous, it gets constantly mentioned as against other massacres , prior and since the British were in India , that involved tens of thousands . If it wasn't for Winston Churchill , it's quite possible that you might not exist .
