Walking Green Acres Mall in December 2021

Ойын-сауық

I take a walk inside the Green Acres Mall to see the decorations and all the activity going on. Located in South Valley Stream, NY, it is located near the border of NYC and is the 15th largest shopping mall in the United States. I also encountered a Santa Claus in the mall!

Beside shopping in Green acres, we would also shop at a few stores along Jamaica Avenue, visit the Colosseum mall near Hillside Avenue, and of course shop at Mr. Lee’s along Jamaica Avenue

It's a miracle it's still around. That place was literally a dead mall in the 2000s. Started to come back in the mid 2010s and still around now.

I did as well & you're right , back in the 80's you would see Run DMC , The Fat Boys & maybe even LL Cool J who didn't really grow up too far away! I remember when this place was only one level before they built the 2nd floor ... I had my 1st "date" at this mall & even worked there in my teens at a store called "Card America " . There used to be a drive in movie theater right next door that later gave way to an indoor theater called the "Sunrise Cinemas" , which I think had 4 theaters to start out & later grew to over 10 if I'm not mistaken ... most theaters at that time only played 1 movie or maybe 2 ! I remember being so excited when they built that place thinking it was so cool to have all those movies in one theater lol. I grew up right over the border in Rosedale ,Queens NY & my friends & I used to walk to that mall and hangout there for hours . Man those were the good ole' days 😃

" Hey, Santa! What's up? " :D Santa became so casual this year. The Food Court is where you want to be for sure. It's good to see this mall still surviving good. There is a guy called "This is Dan Bell " that i watch for many years and he did many videos in malls called "Dead mall series" . It's so sad to see them abandoned and in ruins. I feel sorry for all the work invested, for all the money wasted. Ranting a bit, but the idea is that this mall still stands and looks good and i wish them to succeed for many years!

We have Boxing Day today in Canada. It's a holiday that British Commonwealth countries have, the day after Christmas. The shopping malls in Edmonton will be very busy. I would imagine this mall would be very busy too, for after Christmas sales. I know how good Auntie Anne's pretzels are, because I had them at the O'Hare International Airport, in Chicago, in 2013. The Cinnabon is also good. This is a very awesome looking shopping mall. Thanks for the great videos and livestreams from this year. I hope your Christmas was great and I hope you have a Happy New Year. Cheers! I♥️ NY

Wow, what a shame most of the major businesses are gone from there. Places like Sears JCPenney, footlocker, even the old places like A&S, Stearns, and Gimbels. They even had places like Woolworth and Modell‘s. I used to work in that mall at a few places including Lechters and things remembered. I see that the children’s place is about to close down as well. As a kid, we all used to walk there from where we lived at in Queens, it seemed like a surreal experience for us. We would go to the movies next-door at sunrise multiplex cinemas and then go to the mall after the movie. All of this was slightly before Home Depot across the way, and long before BJ’s and Walmart were built, and almost before Kmart was about to close. Also long before Best Buy was built and they tore down the movie theater to build that plaza along with sonic

Good to see a mall that isn’t dying even if it is in NYC. Not a big fan of places with that dense of a population. That children’s play area was probably closed because of all the germs going around in winter and child play areas are a breeding ground for all kinds of nasty viruses like colds and flu. The design of this mall is very vanilla. The terrazzo floors look like something from the 1960s. But, I guess the mall owners didn’t feel it necessary to upgrade it because it’s a place where people can get out of the cold and do all their shopping in one place. But, it’s a mall that seems to be doing well which is good enough. I’ve seen malls that are far more beautiful on video that we’re dead or dying in other parts of the country so a boringly designed mall that is thriving is better than an impressively beautifully designed mall that is dead or dying.
