Hi there Patrick I like to say thank you for your video's of the river walk through Porter Clough, We have a lot of history around Sheffield, We lived on Little London Road the back to back house's were the B&M is now, been trying for some time now to find who built these homes and the history around this area, we used to go through a passage witch come out at a wooden bridge on to broadfield road were i played in the river, yours Tony

Hi Tony interesting all my family on my Dads side lived on Broadfield Park Road in the 1850 to 1900,s period, the signs of there foundations are still visible. There is a wooden bridge over the river at Saxon road next to the big electricity substation, I often walk over it on my way to the Crown pub on chesterfield Road. My next video will start on Broadfield Road as I intent to do a urban wildcamp. Thanks for comments very interesting all the best Pat

Pat that was a good exploration and adventure in both part 1 and 2, I cant help but feel you'd have been an excellent leader on the escape committee at Colditz, you'd have found a way out no problem. Once again the light painting method turned out some very good results.

Hi and I used to love Colditz on the TV, years ago I read all the WW2 escape stories, and for a film you can .t beat the Great Escape, perhaps I was born at the wrong time. Being on a escape committee would of been great, although I would not of been in the post long I would be up and over the wire in no time. Thanks for your interesting comments, all the best Pat

Very slick and professional. I was particularly interested in the bit about Thomas Bolsover, as coincidentally, I have been teaching about electroplating today. I moved to Scotland as I love wild places, but this is very much a reminder of the beauty, interest and adventure that can be found while exploring a more industrialised area.

Hi Steve its the industrial history that attracted me to the river Porter, I was looking at the history of some pubs near the river then got sidetracked and found such a lot of history on a river I had known all my life. From that I thought I had to film its entire length, hopefully part 2 out on KZread this Sun/Mon, all the best Pat

Patrick Dickinson sorry about that it sent before I finished lol. Yeah moved to Litton in the peaks in the early 90s and had some great adventures out there. Not sure if you be done the valley or not but there are some great places to Camp down there and over Millers dale and Wardlow ..! Well look forward to your next venture mate and hopefully I will be out and about in the peaks very soon ..!

Fantastic work pat....I find the thought of exploring culverts, underground rivers and forgotten out of view spaces very interesting but not fit enough to go exploring myself anymore.....the time you spent on the photography reels its own rewards with wonderful colours that show up as if they are glowing..........👍👍

Hi David yes I think I have seen George Barnsley site on 28dayslater. there are a lot of places to explore in Sheffield, I prefer the drains culverts, Megatron must be one of Sheffield's greatest explores, its awesome . Thanks for comments and subbing all the best Pat

Yes I remember hat slide myself and both my sons enjoyed sliding down it sat on there fleece jackets to go faster. Remember kayaking on Forge Dam when in Fulwood Scouts, happy days, Pat

I'm always interested in where/how rivers begin. The little stream there at the beginning of the video, where and how does it start. is it a series of little tributaries , a spring, etc? I would love to go on an exploration with yourself...the knowledge and interest in this is right up my alley. cheers!

Enjoying your river adventures, not many know about the waterwheel and mill pond at Sharrow Mill . This is behind Tesco's on Ecclesall road. This wheel still works when needed although the snuff production is done on modern machinery now.

The snuff people are a bit secretive and careful who they let in, you may get lucky at the office and they let you look ! I did some work on the wheel about 9 years ago... all the best Brian

Hi Jordon the small land drain in the side of the culvert maybe water from the road above or a local spring flowing into the river. I will have a look up it one day, thanks Pat

A rivers wish is to flow to the sea and along the way now flows by me i see that it gives life along the way and is ever giving by night and day i can but admire it's journey from high to low as it grows by each mile be it fast or slow i can walk at its pace when it gently flows or by a waterfall as it's impatience shows all framed by a nature in a million ways that i may borrow by the mile on different days Poem by RobinG SNR

Hi mike and thanks for putting the link to Friends of porter valley FB, such an interesting river with all its history. I followed the river all the way to its meeting with the Sheaf under platform 5 at the railway station, from there you can follow the Sheaf for 1400m all the way under the city to the Don at Blonk street, my Megatron video will show you what a awesome piece of Victorian engineering this is. I was in Fulwood 142 Scouts 1966 to 1970, with David Nipper Hague and John hardy as leaders fantastic times and some great camps. I looked at your history of Fulwood Scouts and recognized myself and many of my friends of that era, I will put some comments on your video soon. We live over at Ecclesall both my sons were in Ecclesall 20 th scouts with Andrew Watson leader, hopefully they will have got a lot out of it for the future. David Rose Hi David yes some right water would be flowing through, I heard Millhouses Park was near to flooding so much water after snow melted, " when it rains, don,t go in drains". Pat

Hi mark to film and photograph I use a Sony A 37 DSLR, gives great video and photographs, only thing against it is the weight when lightweight camping. Another problem area is the audio, if you rely on the cameras mic then wind noise and background noise , picked up the sound of flowing water rather than my voice, so a remote microphone is useful, I ,am still working on it, hope helpful Pat

Hi Pat, Re: the cafe at Forge Dam. Not sure if you know, but the building of the cafe was apparently transported to its current site from Sharrow Vale area of the city (Wesleyan Reform Chapel) , where it was once a Chapel. Some said it came from Walkley in Sheffield. According to the previous proprietors of Forge Dam Cafe : "The current building reportedly used to be Walkley Methodist Hall and after dismantling, was brought down to Forge Dam on a horse and cart in the 1930s". www.sheffieldhistory.co.uk/forums/topic/13152-old-sharrow-vale-chapel-now-at-forge-dam/

joesophie90 Wow I did not know that, aI,Vs lived round here all my life, remember going to Forge Dam Cafe and playing on old penny machines on back wall that would be in the 1960,s, had towing boats you could hire on the dam as well. Will have a look at Sheffield History, very interesting, thanks for info, Pat
