Walking American Dream Mall : Second Largest Mall in America

Ойын-сауық

The American Dream Mall is the second-largest mall in the United States. It has three million square feet of space and includes a Theme Park, Water Park, Ice-skating Rink, Indoor Skiing or Snowboarding, and Mini Golf attractions. This was my first visit to the mall, and I was blown away by how many attractions and stores there were.

I would totally go there, for the architecture alone. I was raised in the 80s and we've come a long way. A big day for me was when grandma took us kids to Kmart, ate a donut in the cafeteria, waited for the blue light special announcements and rode the coin operated mini go-round outside the front entrance.

Thanks for the upload brother. Just watched 5 minutes so far. The white shiny tiles, white blank walls & lighting creates a very cold and impersonal atmosphere. Like one big empty glamour palace/space ship with some shops and entertainment to fill up the space. In 5-10 years when this trend is out dated, they have to spend another few billion dollars for the next trend. Instead of building something with features that is timeless and adds value to the community and people.

Thanks AK for the nice tour of American Dream. It's certainly a combination of Vegas&a cruise ship feel....I haven't visited yet,but many I know have. It's a beautiful huge mall, but clearly people will go because of the entertainment there, water park, skating, etc. Sadly, malls will become extinct without becoming entertainment centers. American Dream is lovely, but so much space remains vacant,it's a concern. People heading to this mall just for the water park, are not likely to be patronizing retail stores. I think that's going to be the case&have to question how this huge massive mall can survive

You know ActionKid, I've gotta tell you... I can see that Mall becoming one of this country's most monumental abandoned retail spaces within as little as ten years. I just don't see it becoming busy enough and profitable enough to become a viable location in the long term. It just seems like a vast indoor curiosity to me, not something that shoppers will come to consider a necessary replacement for more local merchants, big box outlets, and online shopping.

Amazing mall. It was originally suppose to open like 12 years ago or something. It's not making much money from what I hear. The owners had been planning on building an even bigger mall in miami but the plans are on hold now. I hope it does well. The ski dome would be fun. Snowboarding in July would be awesome!

One of my first thoughts was "Why is there so much empty space!?" Like that one whole area you walk down that is just a long hallway of nothing. And then the thought of how much energy/power is needed for this giant building. If anything, I feel like this place should have been an art museum rather than a mall with all the crazy decor everywhere. Just way too much open space with nothing in it. Maybe it's because the malls I've lived around are smaller and more condensed, but the point of this mall seems to be more about how gigantic it is than being well...a shopping mall. Even the Mall of America is like that, having gone there a few times in my life. The big thing that seems to keep these giant malls alive is tourism. I saw a lot of it in this video even. Lots of people snapping photos. So, aside from the tourism stuff and the food court, I imagine the other businesses don't do great. Especially during the whole pandemic thing,

That's how they disguise closed stores. That area was about 10 closed stores all in a row and a good half the entire mall was basically boarded up. I really wonder if it will survive another year.

the mall still has over 600,000 square feet to lease up and they have no takers. the place is going nowhere fast. they literally built no infrastructure to even accomodate traffic to it but since it sucks nobody even goes. they just plopped a massive structure and route 120 and were like "this is fine"🙄

  • @sbclaridge

@@ChatGPT1111 Not too long ago, American Dream Mall had only $800 in reserve cash. That's not a typo; only eight hundred dollars. I'm sure that amount is quite a bit higher now, but this mall is definitely not in the best shape financially. This whole financial situation is unfortunate, given all of the effort that went into making this mall. There were a lot of days and multiple economic setbacks, though. Construction actually started way back in 2004 as the Meadowlands Xanadu, but the 2008-09 recession and bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers ended that. After some ownership changes, Triple Five finally started opening portions of the mall in late 2019, but that came just before the full impact of COVID-19 struck in March 2020. A lot of American Dream's issues seem to stem from bad luck.

Great tour! I live just a few minutes away and have the privilege of going often. Parking is cheap, and it is a great place to take guests. I do think it is going to continue to struggle though since the attractions are its main draw. For what you get, especially at the theme park and water park, the prices are too high (even for NJ). It is more expensive than Great Adventure. Of course the indoor element helps on a cold or rainy day, but it really isn't worth the price.

The initial corridor inside the mall has nice flooring but they put no effort into the appearance of the ceiling. Very drab. The main area is amazing albeit I’m not a fan of the square pillars. Also, I’m not against people taking pictures in the mall, but be considerate and don’t take forever doing it. There’s other people waiting to get by. It truly is an amazing mall. Let’s hope people won’t be making dead mall videos here for a very long time.
