How can they die? It's a 220 ft drop down to the water. The velocity of the fall makes you hit the water at over 100 miles per hour. It's like landing on concrete from a 21 story building. If the fall doesn't kill you all of your bones will be broken and you'll likely die from drowning. Very sad way to go.

285 ft drop to the water. It’s not soft. It’s like slamming into a wall. If the fall doesn’t kill the person they’re so maimed and the currents so strong and cold, they drown. Every single person who has lived from jumping from this bridge that has a 98% fatality rate for jumpers, said as soon as they left the railing they regretted their choice and wanted to live.

as an Australian, I spent a month in and around San Franciso in 2013 walked up to the first pylon it was a nice sunny day, I think it was March or April I have been told things have changed somewhat I wouldn't mind going back
I walked across it nearly a year ago, I walked from 1 side to the other it took me 2 hours and it was worth it it was a beautiful experience.

Yes, the anti-suicide fence hurt our views somewhat, and nobody is aligned as to whether it helped. I had to leave Marin in 2001, which I loved (Larkspur). and wound up in Florida in 2004 because my Larkspur house' value had climbed so much.
I have a love hate relationship with heights
Just think some of those numbered light poles you're walking past are the very ones where people have climbed over next to and jumped 😰😭

So why the vertical fencing BEFORE you get on the span? If someone wanted to commit suicide, they will just jump out in front of traffic when they build the suicide barriers.

The fences go out to the shoreline where people can walk under the bridge. They prevent anyone from jumping off the bridge and landing on a person underneath. If someone wants to commit suicide they should have the courtesy to jump off the bridge over the water.
