Legit the only car I'd consider buying today. Thundernight over beige or cognac, 230i (no xdrive)... perfect (well, would be perfect with a 6 speed but that time has passed).

Agreed, a third pedal would make this PERFECT! But it's a fantastic car, even with the automatic!

At 2:06, I intended to say inline-4 rather than inline-6. My apologies. The inline-6 is exclusive to M240i and M2 models, and the 230i does not have one. -Ronnie

Probably the only model I would consider to replace my slightly aging F30 Mperf

Yeah, great review. He doesn't even know what engine is in the car. lol

Hopefully aftermarket will fix the fugly rear lights though in a GTS OLED style

Just took delivery of my 2023 BSM 230i M sport. I was lucky enough to still option the dynamic handling and shadowline packages before they were removed. Also was able to get the canberra beige seats as well. Now it's only cognac with the m sport model which I hate. Not a fan. Love the car though!

Question: On bmws website I can’t select the M sport design package because the tab isn’t there. But I can select it from choosing the M sport rims. In a perfect world I would want one with out the M door things for $200 and with M rims if possible. How am I select those options because I want to load it up with other options? Edit: also what does the M package actually do? I get the diff Does it adaptive springs is just lower and stiffer? Does it get the bigger brakes? Other then styling what else does it include? Like I want all function without a single M or three colors.

Interesting question, you may have discovered a slight hiccup in the BMWUSA website. You should be able to select the M Sport package right from the beginning. The M Package, besides the numerous aesthetic changes, includes variable sport steering, a diff, upgraded brakes, and a slightly revised suspension geared towards performance. Unfortunately, that stuff cannot be had sans M Badging.

Yes! Honestly, winter capability is more about tires than anything, but BMW always equips their cars (besides the ones with performance tires) with high-quality all-season tires.

How do you add the m sport package. I don't see it on the BMW USA.

You should have no problem fitting in, it's surprisingly spacious for a small car.

the 230i will make an excellent convertible that's more fun to drive than the 4-series convertible... just saying... :)

It would be awesome as a convertible, but unfortunately we don't expect that to become available. At least not at this point.

Ocuh though... that dash is liek going 40 years back in time compared to 2022, its not integrated... thats insane

BMW really missed out on tons of sales in the 230 for not offering a manual (IMO) I get it, the EU freaks will not let them produce them, BMW going cheap to standardize production cost, whatever but I would bet the 230 could compete very well with the manual offerings here in the states, GTI, Golf, Integra S, Civic R, etc. If BMW made the M230i with a manual, I would already own one as well as 5 others I know who all own variants of above mentioned because they didn't want drop for the M2 to get a manual nor I. Its just not the value prop for your average driving enthusiast.

I won't argue with that. I wish we still offered manuals in non-M cars. Unfortunately, BMW has decided that there isn't a strong enough business case for them.

I can't trust a sales rep who can't identify a 4 from a 6 cylinder motor. Two minutes in and i'm done. The difference here is perhaps the largest between the two models of 230i vs 240i, especially with the M package components that this purple model has.

Oh no, thank you for pointing that mistake out! That was a mistake of course, I meant to say inline-4 rather than inline-6. We film so many I6 equipped cars, so I'm used to saying inline-6 when we're under the hood. Apologies. We're all well-aware of the differences between the 6 and 4 cylinder engines... you are correct, it is in fact the biggest difference between the 230i and the M240i. Us too! Totally sympathetic to the traditionalist view point when it comes to BMW designs, but appreciate the new design language as well. And, you're right. They always do :)

Of course, it's an inline 4. My mistake. So used to saying inline 6 under the hood of BMW's.

M240 is the way to go. The b58 engine dude

Can't fault that opinion at all... the B58 is fantastic! But we are glad we have the 230i to bring the G42 platform to a more affordable price point!
