I'm Malaysian Chinese. I'm always fond of Malays' folklore and legends, some of the best values of history and values unique of Malays. I always felt like our film industry doesn't show case Malays' legends enough, no drama and movie pun Puteri Gunung Ledang yang popular. Needs more exposure to introduce and keeping these stories alive, not just on novels and boring text books, bravo to the production team and good luck

Yup me too. I think their folklore & legends are unique. They are kinda like a mixture of hindu, buddha, islam, animism, mystique & others. Seriously needs more exposure & adaptation.

@@turutututu243 On the contrary, i don’t see malay srikandi (i.e, female warriors, not to be confused with celestial princesses) traditional outfits revealing, most are depicted wearing kurung/kebarung/pants. Maybe producers don’t make these type of movies because they assume we love the same-old boring love scandal dramas 🤷🏻‍♀️

@@dana_0612 i blame scriptwriter, not just it's send bad message to kids, they also didn't presents SEA except some visual here and there. Dialogue from dragon makes me cringe and she's very annoying. Disney trying to make dragon to be genie but instead failed because dragon doesn't have it's own identities Few years ago there's a trailer about puteri limau made by Malaysian but it never released but based on that trailer, i can think Disney hired animator from that studios animation to do Raya and the last dragon.

Her real name was Wan Lindung Seri, but the local Pahang Malay simplified it after hundreds of years to make her name more rememberable. Because Wan is a typical name for nobles or royal descents Malays both men and women, this is where the word Bangsawan came from. Just like the lore of Cik Siti Wan Kembang (Kembang/Bunga or flower) in Kelantan, Wan Empuk and Wan Malini in Palembang and Wan Seri Beni in Bintan Johor Riau. You can find many historical and legendary female Malay characters with the name Wan. Lindung meaning to cover or to protect, Seri is light or glowing light (Seri is browed word from Sanskrit ,Shri). So her name is Wan Lindung Seri or nobility who have the protection of the light...something like that. After time the local just call her Walinong sari because its more catchy for the local folk song. Im a local Pahangite :)

Raya and the Last Dragon is either portraying Thai or Hindhu Buddha culture. Malay folklore usually involves Hindhu-Buddha and Islamic culture all at once.

I just realized the animation is based on the wayang kulit concept, which makes it more unique! So beautifully done ❤

Every touch in this animation is astonishing. I feel the story at the bottom of my heart, almost cry when paduka raja let her daughter go. This remembered me the time when I was a kid, very into malays' folklore and legends. Maybe its a sign for me to learn more about my own culture.

Love the animation and the background music, it bring imagination of wayang kulit. Best scene when they on the river and the timang burung with Gamelan.

The details in the background with flora and fauna, and culture and fabrics if society (pun intended with the tenun and songket), not to mention the Gamelan throughout a wayang kulit scroll of story telling. Such elegance artwork. What a treat for Pahangites 🌙

No wonder the voice seems familiar, it is Nadia Aqilah! I love her acting and voice! Anyway this is beautifully made, the art, animation, the songs, the voices, they're all perfect and beautifully made. I can tell it's made with care and love.

I love the subtle touch of stabbing action when the keris is being used. Also the intricate accurate Malay patterns and clothing. Shows that research is being done to produce this beautiful animation. Thank you for producing and promoting Malay culture and history when others choose not to. Highly appreciated ❤❤❤

Though the styling was inspired by wayang kulit, but at least based it on malayan wayang kulit instead of javanese one. U know how sensitive those people are. But that aside, great animation!

Actually kan the characters are actually javanese style because of how skinny and panjang rheir arms are, kalau malay like in kelantan and kedah is different tapi corak is still malay

because they don't know the fact that wayang kulit exists in other countries besides their country, Thailand and China also have wayang kulit, the difference is in style and way, Asia has very similar cultures, but there are still differences. Asian culture is beautiful.

Yea. It was our intention to also do it in Bahasa Istana/Kias. But we wanted to reach out to more international film festivals for this first film. We also made sure our cast semua fasih dalam Bahasa Melayu, supaya bila ada peruntukkan budget dari MDEC atau FINAS, kita boleh dub. Tapi kalau ada rezeki untuk filem2 di masa depan, saya nak buat dalam bahasa kita dahulu - subtitles dalam bahasa Inggeris.

This is amazing oh my gosh!!! I've always wanted to see an animation showcase our beautiful culture and folklore, and this does exactly that! The background music utilising traditional instruments, the gorgeous environments incorporating local flora and fauna, the character designs, the voice acting, and of COURSE all of the art and animation are all AMAZING!!!! The art direction to make everything look like wayang kulit is SO genius. I'm in awe, I keep watching and rewatching this. I hope Mayabayu will release the full song she sang for this, she's one of my favourite local singers, and to have her sing in this masterpiece is just the tastiest juiciest cherry on top. Thank you to the entire team for making this and sharing this for free on KZread, it's truly beautiful. And I especially love that this is in English too so I can share with my international friends and share a piece of my culture with them. Gorgeous, fantastic work.

Props to the team production! Such an astonishing animation from concept art, storytelling & many more. Wow, lama dah tak nangis teruk mcm ni lepas tgk movie. Rindunya dgn arwah abah 😢 al-Fatihah. Hopeful to see more in the Nusantara series. Kecik2 dulu duduk dlm perpustakaan waktu rehat baca buku cerita dongeng dgn mitos Melayu. Sayang animator kita lebih suka tiru tema dgn style animasi asing. Suka ambik jalan selamat, yelah mahal kos nak buat kan. Bersepah subjek nak dianimasikan dlm budaya sendiri yang unik daripada budaya lain. Ntah berapa kali boleh menang award tahap antarabangsa kalau ada ramai yg nak support animasi2 tanah air mcm ini. Cuba tgk Upin & Ipin. Bukan tak ada audiens yg boleh terima ya, ramai sbnrnya nak tau budaya SEA ni apa. Sbb budaya China, Jepun, Korea bagai tu orang dah tau tak banyak pun sikit. Kita yg masih misteri lagi. Kurang sgt terjemahan ke Bahasa Inggeris. Anyway, good job. Animasi dan jalan cerita yang sangat indah. Latar suara pun semua berbakat, emosi semua sampai. Komen ditaip dgn mata yg masih bergenang.
